We've already discussed some of the best new weapons found in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, but this time we're back with an even more comprehensive and broader array of must-have items for you to chase down. Certainly, we will recommend some new weapons in this list, too, but also armors, medallions, upgrade opportunities, consumables, and more.
This list of 20 must-have Shadow of the Erdtree items is, then, a bit of a collector's shortlist: the stuff that's either too cool or too useful to pass up on, all summarized and explained for your reading (and bookmarking!) pleasure. We've included as many details on how to find these items as we could without resorting to spoilers, but in some cases you'll just have to wing it. Have fun!
Upgrade your Elden Ring character into the poise tank you always knew they could be! The Solitude Armor is worn by the Darkgaol Knight found in the Western Nameless Mausoleum, just northwest off the Gravesite Plain starting Grace, and though you may be hard-pressed to take Darkgaol Knight down at first, this armor set is a must-have for players who do not want to flinch.
Need more FP? But of course you do. This Talisman adds a neat little bonus to your total FP pool, allowing you to cast that much more stuff. Obviously a good thing, yes? To grab this simple but neat little trinket, you'll have to make your way to the Church of Benediction. Be sure to grab the Oathseeker Knight Armor while you're there, too, as outlined below!
Are you, too, a sucker for Lightning spells? Well, look no further than the Knight's Lightning Spear incantation, found in the Scorpion River Catacombs. Look for a death trap guarded by two enemies - that's where you'll find the spell in question. Upon casting, this incantation fires five magical spears (seven, if fully charged) that rapidly deploy themselves straight into your enemies. This one won't be too useful on some enemies, but those that have a weakness to lightning will find it hard to defend against the Lightning Spear. It's also great fun to use!
Look for the spiral pillars around the Scorched Ruins area of the Gravesite Plains region. This delightful pair of blades is not only fairly competent in combat, but its Ash of War also has a dedicated second dodge you can rely upon without spending Stamina. Useful? Oh, goodness, yes. You can even take it off the weapon to apply it to something else!
This one's a tad weird, we'll admit, but we see immense potential in this trinket. At the cost of taking almost 50% more damage, the Talisman of All Crucibles reduces the damage you take from critical hits and headshots, and improves the effectiveness (i-frames) of rolling and backstepping. With this in mind, it's going to be immensely powerful in the right hands, which are not mine, but still. You can get it by going down the elevator to the southwest of the Grand Starway site of Grace. Take the leftmost floating platform path, and follow the path until you come across a chest with the talisman.
This one is going to be an acquired taste, yes, but it's such a delight to use once you learn how to not get hit at all that we had to include it. Found by killing Rakshasa in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum (good luck with that!), his armor set adds an extra 2% of damage per armor piece worn. The downside is, however, is that you also take more damage, but this makes the Rakshasa set a must-have for highly skilled, parry-focused players. I'm not that, mind, but I feel this armor will be a delight for those of you who are.
Another katana, but we just can't help it! The Sword of Night is powerful and cool in equal measure, focusing on - what else - delivering heavy blood loss effects and taking down even the most powerful enemies with a thousand cuts. Coincidentally, this is also the weapon wielded by Jolán, which will be relevant towards the top/bottom of this list. Get this weapon by visiting the Cathedral of Manus Metyr!
Ailments/status effects are the bane of many an Elden Ring player's existence. With the Ailment Talisman, though, they're way easier to deal with, as it substantially raises your resistance to the last ailment you were affected by. So, if you know for a fact you're going after something that'll, say, deal Madness over and over again, you need to equip the Ailment Talisman. Grab it on a corpse in the Abandoned Ailing Village, off north from the Greatbridge site of Grace.
If you end up facing off against Messmer himself, you'll have a shot at earning the Spear of the Impaler. This unique weapon scales with STR, DEX, and FAI which gives it an excellent baseline for regular combat. Its Ash of War, though, is the real deal. Messmer's Assault lets you pull off a particularly snazzy combo that will easily dispatch large groups of enemies over the course of its six(ish) attacks. Throw in some AoE fire into the mix, and you've got a real winner.
Usually, we'd recommend gunning it for full armor sets just to keep things nice and tidy, but the Fire Knight Helm is a standalone piece of kit that can be found as a random drop from Fire Knights inside the Shadow keep. You'll have to farm it out, but it's worth the trouble: the Fire Knight Helm increases your max HP, stamina, and equip load all at once. As such, the helmet is basically three Medallions' worth of upgrades rolled into one, and so a must-have.
I, personally, am a sucker for balanced gear that lets me use whatever I want however I want. The Oathseeker set, specifically, also looks awesome on top of that, so it's a great choice for most players, even if only for collecting purposes. This one's really easy to get, too: just visit the Church of Benediction to the southwest of the Gravesite Plain and look for a hanging body. Fun!
Another snazzy incantation, the Giant Golden Arc fires three wide Holy damage projectiles in front of you, which can stagger enemies relatively quickly. You do need to have your FAI at 34 to leverage this incantation, but it's well worth the price of admission in our book. Find the Giant Golden Arc behind an inactive Furnace Golem in the Ruins of Unte, off to the east from the Grace found at the Castle Watering Hole. Note that you'll need to throw a Hefty Furnace Pot at the inactive golem to get it out of the way, which means you need the Furnace Visage beforehand.
Wing Stance is, quite likely, our favorite Ash of War in the whole of Elden Ring. Yes, it's just that satisfying to use, but it also applies your weapon's status effects extremely reliably, making it a must-have for certain enemy types. You can find the Wing Stance at the top of the Castle Ensis Tower, in a chest tucked away on one of the balconies. Simply, relatively easy to get, and infinitely useful. What's not to like?
Need a sweet new Spirit Ash? Oh, Yosh is your best choice for sure. This powerful demi-human is your reward for dealing with the Belarut Gaol boss, but it's well worth the price of admission, as it were. Yosh is extremely agile and wields a magical blade that would make even Malenia herself blush. An apt companion for the rest of the DLC, we think!
This will probably seem funny, we know, but Hefty Pots are awesome. You'll find three Cracked Hefty Pots in the Belarut Gaol dungeon in total, and they can be used to craft delightfully powerful and useful grenades later on. Your first stop after collecting Cracked Hefty Pots is to go to the Scorched Ruins and the cliffs off to the south from the Abandoned Ailing Village to collect the two Greater Potentate's Cookbooks. Doing so will unlock Hefty Pot recipes for you to craft.
Scaling with STR and DEX, the Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana is a phenomenally useful large blade that can be found in the Dragon's Pit dungeon, dropped from the Ancient Dragon-Man boss. Its unique Ash of War is a surprisingly powerful Dragonwound Slash, which lets you jump high into the air and perform a downward slash while the weapon is cloaked in gravel-stone aura. Very handy for large enemies. Like dragons.
Do you feel you never have enough Stamina to carry you through encounters? Well, in that case, you need the Two-Headed Turtle Talisman, which is in a cave hidden behind the Ellac River waterfall. Its effect is simple, too: it massively increases your Stamina regeneration. Sure, it's hardly flashy, but sometimes you just cannot beat the staples, and so you don't.
Another simple, but sorely needed item in our book, this version of the Crimson Amber Medallion adds a substantial amount of HP that you'll find most useful as you scrounge up upgrades in the Realm of Shadow. You can grab it after you reach the Castle Front site of Grace. Just head north and enter the Fog Rift Catacombs, and then kill the Death Knight.
The Spirit Ashes of Jolán and Anna are probably the most involved you'll ever be into unlocking a set of Ashes, and it certainly helps that they're remarkably useful in practical combat. Unlocking this is a bit of a trip, however, which explains why you can get not one but two powerful bleed-dishing swordsmen at your disposal. No spoilers here, but make sure that you follow Jolán's questline to its conclusion and then get to the top of Rabbath's Rise. The rest should make sense once you get there.
Nothing tops this. Nothing. Scadutree Fragments (and their Ash variant, mind). These items are of utmost importance for your progression in the Realm of Shadow, and you will not be able to make a meaningful dent in most bosses' health bars unless you go out of your way to hunt down as many Scadutree Fragments as possible. Seriously, hunt them all down, and you can thank us later.
