The long-awaited Ghost Recon Breakpoint Amber Points Update 3.1.0 is finally here, and boy is it a hoot. It's not even just a simple content drop, either. This new patch comes with the awesome Rainbow Six Siege crossover Amber Sky event, as well as a batch of substantial discounts we've got ready for your consideration. On top of all that, many of you will be thrilled to hear about the free weekend for Breakpoint,  too. So, what we're going to do here today is to break down all the good stuff to its simplest bits.

We'll go over the new Breakpoint Update 3.1.0, as well as the Amber Sky event and what it might mean for Ghost Recon moving forward. To begin with, though, we'll tell you about the free weekend and the subsequent sales that we've got live right now. If you were ever on the fence about playing the latest and greatest Ghost Recon, now's the time to splurge. Especially following the recent updates, which have all been pretty darn awesome. Ghost Recon Breakpoint Amber Points Free Weekend: Start & End Times

The first order of business is going to be particularly interesting to those who haven't yet played Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Namely, the game is getting a free weekend event to celebrate both Amber Sky and the 3.1.0 Update release. As good a reason as any, we say! If you want to make the best of Breakpoint free weekend, though, you're going to need info that's a bit more precise, we bet. Fret not, we've got the start and end times just below:

• Start date: January 21st, 2021
• End date: January 24th, 2021

To best facilitate the provided playtime, Ubisoft is also going to offer free weekend preload to interested parties. The option to download the game for free should be available right now, in fact. Ubisoft has also gone on record saying that the free trial period - which affords players 6 hours of trial playtime - is going to be paused 'till January 25th. If you had already made use of that feature, you can jump right in as well. Great news, right?

Before we continue, it's worth pointing out that this weekend's event - Amber Sky - is not DLC content. Much like the previous Terminator and Resistance events for Breakpoint (which you can toggle on whenever you like), Amber Sky is completely free to all owners of the baseline Breakpoint license. So, Rainbow Six Siege fans will be able to jump right in, too, without having to splurge on extra Season Pass content if they're not into it. Do give it a mull, though, because Sam Fisher makes a hell of an appearance in the Season Pass content!

Operation Amber Sky: Ghost Recon Breakpoint Rainbow Six Siege Crossover Event

Now that we've got all the technical stuff out of the way, it's time to talk content. Operation: Amber Sky is the latest in a long line of Breakpoint events, and this time, it's a Rainbow Six Siege crossover. Featuring Thatcher, Ash, and Finka of Siege fame, the protagonist - Nomad - will get a squad of three all-new teammates with all-new abilities and functionality to choose from. This is an entirely new feature before you ask. Up until now, we could fully customize the baseline AI squadmates in Breakpoint, but new abilities and all that stuff? That's new. Pretty exciting, too!

Amber Sky is going to start on January 21st and end on February 1st. For its duration, players will have the opportunity to unlock a whole bunch of exciting new items, not least of which is an under-barrel shotgun attachment, essentially the M26 MASS utility. Breakpoint fans will know: we've been waiting a long while for this bad boy. Of course, there's a whole list of new cosmetic items to pick and choose from, too, but those will depend on your preference, so your mileage may vary. Though we do anticipate that Amber Sky will remain accessible via an options toggle in Breakpoint, the rewards themselves may remain exclusive. What's interesting to note is that, during the Amber Sky event, players will also be able to unlock previous events' exclusive items. So, y'know, that's a lot of stuff to go through.

Now, Amber Sky is going to introduce 9 all-new missions, spread across 3 new objective types:

• Breach
• Spy
• Steal

Ubisoft has announced stuff like door-breaching and mandatory gas masks (with filter switching) in infested zones, so we're looking at a significant gameplay twist, too. Ghost Recon Breakpoint Update 3.1.0: New Content & Gameplay Changes

As you probably realize by now, the Breakpoint Update 3.1.0 is nested within the Amber Sky event. This means it brings with it a bunch of new content that's going to stay as a permanent addition, too. Most notably, these are the new guns, but we suspect Ubisoft will add new objectives and possibly missions to the mix, too. Do note that the update is a sizeable one: we're looking at a 20 GB download once the update hits. Lots of good stuff included, that's for sure.

New Weapons in Update 3.1.0

Now, for the duration of the event, players will have a chance to unlock a whole repertoire of awesome new Rainbow Six Siege weapons in Breakpoint.  Even though these weapons (and R6 character "Figures") are time-limited exclusives, you'll be happy to hear that they'll make their way to Maria's Shop just two weeks after Amber Sky wraps up. So, even if you don't have the time to play Breakpoint during this event, you'll still be able to unlock all the goodies afterwards. We do have pictures of the new weapons, too. Find them below!

If drones put you off, you can now minimize their presence entirely. If Gear Score puts you off, you can safely ignore it altogether. Gear locked behind the Raid? No more. Lack of AI squad? It's here now! Ubisoft has been hard at work systematically addressing player feedback left and right, and it shows. Ghost Recon Wildlands fans in particular shouldn't keep putting Breakpoint off.
