Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr is the latest in a long line of substantial expansion packs that Bethesda dishes out every once in a while to keep people interested and playing. Much like its predecessors, it's absolutely filled-to-the-brim with new features and content, and here, we're going to take a look at some of its most prominent additions.

As if the introduction of an entirely new desert continent wasn't enough, Bethesda is also using Elsweyr to release the new Necromancer class to help players combat against the rising threat of Dragonkin, who soar the skies above ancestral Khajiit cities. Strap in, because we're in for quite a ride with ESO: Elsweyr.

The most prominent of the new additions, short of the actual continent of Elsweyr itself, are definitely the Dragon Hunts - a new type of endgame activity that will have entire groups of players team up to try to bring the flying monsters down for good. Since Elder Scrolls Online characters aren't, in fact, Dragonborn, they cannot destroy the creatures' souls, but at least they can kill them for a while. Whereas previous endgame activities such as Dark Anchors or Abyssal Geyers are of a more fixed and static type, Dragon Hunts involve a slew of dynamic activities that all come together to deliver a unique gameplay experience.

Your garden-variety Dragon Hunt will include finding dragons as they soar above Elsweyr, and then tracking them to a location where they land and/or rest for a while. Since players can't force dragons to land, they'll have no choice but to hunt for them across the continent. Developers have also let on that dragon fights will be some of the most difficult content ever made for ESO, with them being practically impossible to handle in solo one-on-one combat. Keep in mind that these dragons are also far bigger and more powerful than the ones we've seen in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which explains the different balancing approach. Rewards will be accordingly plentiful, as well.

Dragon hunting will certainly come to a head in ESO's new Trial, which will have up to 12 players trawl through the ancient temple of Alkosh in an effort to cleanse it of its new dragonkin denizens. The Necromancer class will certainly help out with that, as these characters will have the ability to summon various Undead constructs such as the Bone Tyrant. Interested players should also expect destructive elemental spells and organic bone/flesh armour abilities, depending on how your Necromancer is specced.

Of course, the Necromancer and Dragon Hunts are just two of the numerous new features and content that's bundled into ESO: Elsweyr. Here awaits a massive new land full of secrets, equipment, dungeons, and creatures - all of it centered around the beautiful city of Rimmen. The socio-political complexities of Elsweyr will get reflected here in particular, with the relationship between Imperial occupational forces and Khajiit citizens at the forefront of it all.

Outside Rimmen walls awaits the desert scorch of Scar, with an abundance of Khajiti ruins for players to plunge into - all of them as dangerous as they are beautiful. Whether this piece of content is for you is for you to decide, of course, but it certainly does seem like the developers have gone all out this time around.

Elder Scrolls Online: Elswey is now available on 2Game for €35.29 / £22.95 / $39.49, and it's a must if you're a long-time fan of ESO.
