The long-awaited Three Kingdoms Fates Divided DLC is coming out very, very soon. If you, too, are more than eager to get started with an all-new era of tumultuous political affairs during the ages of Three Kingdoms, boy are you in for a hoot.

In case you've not been keeping up with things, pretty much every single one of Total War: Three Kingdoms' major DLC has introduced significant new features and gameplay loops. From Lu Bu's solo combat exploits all the way to huge new regions and faction-specific progression systems. We are only scratching the surface here, mind.

Much as is the case with the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly is not content with adding more content of the same kind to their ongoing games. Instead, we're treated to exciting new developments with each new release. To that end, Fates Divided will deliver a cross-generational faction system to the mix.

Today, we're going to go over these new goodies so that you know if the Fates Divided DLC is right for you, too.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Fates Divided DLC Overview

Fates Divided's main draw is certainly its focus on a dual-part campaign, where one section significantly affects the other. Set around 200 CE, Fates Divided deals primarily with the story of Liu Yan,  and his son, Liu Zhang. The DLC's centerpiece campaign will see players assuming control over Liu Yan in 190 CE and 194 CE, with Liu Zhang taking over in 200 CE.

The kicker, then, is that players will need to balance the cross-generational aspirations of the two warlords in the context of a single faction. While most other factions will continue progressing as we're used to, players enjoying the new cross-generational campaign will get something entirely new to fiddle around with. Essentially, Liu Yan's Aspiration mechanic will allow him to set the stage for Liu Zhang. Whether his son rises to the task or lets the other warring factions drive him into the mud - well, that's the whole point of the DLC.

In the background of this generational story of turmoil is the growing unease between Yuan Shao and Cao Cao. A struggle for dominance arises between the two, and it's up to the players to decide who comes out on top.

Three Kingdoms Fates Divided PC Release Date

Total War: Three Kingdoms Fates Divided DLC is coming out on March 11th. Not a long time to go before we get to see how cross-generational content will work! In practice, it's merely going to be a question of how hard we can fail in both sections of the campaign, honestly. That's really part of the charm.

Now, if you, too, are eager to get started with Fates Divided, you can snag a spicy 10% discount right now, right here. This pre-release price-cut is going to be available until the DLC is out, so there's plenty of time still for you to make use of the deal.

It's worth pointing out that, alongside Fates Divided, we'll also get a cool new content update. More on that a bit later, however.

Full Feature List: New Campaigns, New Units, New Everything

To keep things neat and tidy, we've assembled a comprehensive list of all the goodies we're getting with the Fates Divided Chapter Pack. Find them below:

We had previously mentioned a few of these tidbits. The main draw, then, is that while the new campaign format is the most innovative piece of content coming to Three Kingdoms with Fates Divided, it's just a small slice of the whole package. Better still, a significant portion of that package is going to be entirely free for all owners of Three Kingdoms. Courtesy of Update 1.7.

Playable Warlords in Fates Divided Campaign

One of the key points of interest for any new TW: 3K campaign is that of playable Warlords. After all, there is a historic timeline that Creative Assembly likes sticking to. Below you'll find the full list of playable Warlords in this new chapter of the game:

Far as existing chapters go, expect to find those enriched with a few new Warlords as well:

A respectable roster of characters, we believe. It's good to see support for previous DLCs, too. Creative Assembly's not known for leaving old content behind, though, so it's not that we expected anything less from them.

Update 1.7 - Bonus Free Content for All Owners of Total War: Three Kingdoms

While we've not yet received the full extent of free additions and changes coming with Three Kingdoms Update 1.7, developers have promised to reveal more info in the coming days. We do have a few valuable bits of info, however.

For starters, Update 1.7 is coming on March 11th, alongside the Fates Divided DLC. It's going to introduce reworked Faction mechanics and features for Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, as well as an entirely new Faction Council system and a wide variety of tweaks to existing features. For example, Creative Assembly has mentioned expanded Faction Ranks and Imperial Intrigue functionality, so there's that to be looking forward to.

Bugfixes are coming as well - naturally, and devs have noted that they do recommend starting entirely new save-games to play post Update 1.7. So, all in all, it's going to be quite a ride come March 11.
