Keeping up with the latest and greatest in gaming tech is inherently rewarding, but there's a whole world of AA and indie games on PC that doesn't make it into the mainstream all that often. In comes our list of weird upcoming games!

Today, our job is to show you some of the coolest weird upcoming titles on PC, and to acquaint you with what makes them - in our eyes - some of the most exciting upcoming projects on the market. We've managed to narrow things down to 10 featured titles this time around, but rest assured that this merely scratches the surface.

Granted, some of these you may have already seen in passing - right here at 2Game, even. Regardless, each of the 10 weird PC games listed here is well worth the attention we're giving it, and then some. We'll explain why in the following couple of sections. Have fun!

10 Weird Upcoming Games on PC

Necromunda: Hired Gun

We'll give it to you straight: we know that, of all games on this list, Necromunda: Hired Gun is bound to get the most attention from the mainstream gaming media. It's got just the right combo of spiffy and snazzy for widespread interest and player engagement. After all, it is a 40K Titanfall game, from everything we've seen so far.

What makes it particularly weird and interesting, however, is the developers' legacy. Produced by Streum On Studios, Necromunda: Hired Gun is being made by the same guys who made EYE: Divine Cybermancy. Let us tell you: that is one weird game, and we're still undecided on whether we love it or not. It's definitely a mark of greatness for something that off to attain such a huge following post-launch, though.

Afterward, Streum On went on to develop and launch the decidedly "safer" Space Hulk: Deathwing, which was fine, but nothing special. We're hoping that Necromunda taps into their inner Cronenberg once more. If it does, we've got an instant weirdo-classic on our hands.

Buildings Have Feelings Too!

weird-upcoming-games-on-pc3

We'll always have a soft spot for city-management games here at 2Game. If they attempt to do something new or off-beat, though, that's all the better in our books!

Buildings Have Feelings Too! combines puzzle and city-building elements with the thoroughly weird idea of implementing sentient buildings to the mix. Basically, players will need to maintain their city while also keeping as many buildings happy as possible. Of course, not all buildings play nice with all others, and since they can straight-up walk around of their own accord, it's not exactly your grandfather's city-building game.

The game is coming out in just a few short weeks at the time of writing this article, and we're really excited to give it a whirl once it's out. Developers have promised a complete progression system that starts during the Victorian Era and wraps up in modern times, and we can't wait to see how they translated the buildings themselves into actual characters.

GRAVEN

GRAVEN has been a long time coming. This love letter to ancient classics of the FPS genre (BLOOD, Duke Nukem, etc.) aims to bring us back into the late 90s, albeit with a far more modern gameplay twist than you'd expect.

What sets GRAVEN apart from the rest of the publisher's impressive repertoire of retro shooters is its puzzle slant. Indeed, GRAVEN is going to be a puzzler and an action RPG to pretty much the same extent as it is a first-person shooter, and that makes it stand out even on our list of weird upcoming games on PC.

Basically, players will take up arms as a priest of the Orthogonal Order and try to take down a nondescript madness that's trying to encroach on our reality. So... exactly the kind of stuff we enjoy, really. Strange as that might sound, we're more interested in learning about the game's RPG and adventure features than its shooting, because it sure looks like we're in for a hell of an atmosphere in GRAVEN.

Hidden Deep

weird-upcoming-games-on-pc5

One of our favorite games on this list, Hidden Deep is a solo survival title where players take control over a poorly-equipped expedition into a massive suboceanic research and mining facility. As you can probably imagine, things take a sharp left turn almost immediately, and the survivors are soon left to fend for themselves.

Threats range from strange, blood-starved flying insects that merely want to use the survivors' corpses as breeding grounds, all the way to massive tunnel-making flesh-eating worms. Hidden Deep has all the makings of a good sidescrolling horror game, and we're huge suckers for that sort of thing.

If you were lucky, you may have caught the playable demo for Hidden Deep a while back. It was launched as part of the Steam Games Festival, and it basically confirmed the incredibly atmospheric game we immediately knew Hidden Deep would be. Keep an eye out for this one!

Endless Dungeon

Endless Dungeon is a kind-of, sort-of remake/remaster of the classic Amplitude Studios' strategy/RPG hybrid, Dungeon of the Endless. We say kind of because we're not 100% positive that it's not an entirely new game. In fact, we're not 100% positive what Endless Dungeon is, exactly, but we sure can tell you that it looks awesome so far.

Besides, Amplitude's got a proven track record with years of pedigree. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt, especially when it comes to creating genre hybrids.

For the most part, Endless Dungeon is bound to take some tips from its predecessor. We expect a remastered gameplay loop set in an all-new era of Amplitude's Endless Universe, but with new characters and a new setting. If you haven't yet had the chance to play Dungeon of the Endless, do yourself a favor and grab it on the cheap. It's a survival strategy game that's easily going to keep you busy for dozens of hours at a time. Will Endless Dungeon do the same? We think - yes!

Evil West

Flying Wild Hog is a game development studio that's made a name for itself by creating high-octane FPS titles, like Hard Reset and the renewed Shadow Warrior series. This is to say that they know what they're about with their upcoming horror western shooter, Evil West.

In Evil West - which is a stellar name for a title on our upcoming weird PC games list, by the way - players are tasked with slaying vampires in ample quantities. A simple enough premise, we think. Add 2-player cooperative multiplayer to the mix and a big campaign-focused narrative that stretches across the American Frontier, and you've got a winning formula right there.

While we don't know the exact genre of the game just yet, developers' track record suggests it would be a first-person shooter. So, stay tuned for more news as we get them!

The Ascent

Cyberpunk is all the rage lately, and we're here for it. The Ascent is going to take advantage of this setting, too, and it's going to tell us the story of a civilian uprising in the making. At the same time, in the background of The Ascent's main narrative, players will also need to figure out why one of the biggest corporations of their world has suddenly shut down. Not a bad twist, right?

The Ascent is also going to be something of a late-era cyberpunk title, with extraterrestrials running side-by-side with heavily augmented cyborgs. It reminds us somewhat of the older RUINER title, although it does seem that The Ascent is going to focus more heavily on telling a compelling story, rather than being a roguelike twin-stick shooter at its core.

Just one look at The Ascent's screenshots makes it clear that the game also looks pretty damn amazing, so it's bound to be a standout, even if only with its graphics.

Monster Harvest

Imagine Stardew Valley, but with mutants and strange, alien seasons and plants. This pitch alone makes Monster Harvest a must-have far as our list of weird upcoming games on PC is concerned.

Set in the aptly-named Planimal Point farm, Monster Harvest will see players tend to their ever-mutating farm with strange slime-derived animals. Developers promise up to 72 unique mutations, with the mysterious Planimals being the end result of the whole ordeal. From what we've seen, Planimals are going to be the players' sentient armaments, allowing them to defend themselves and their farm from bandits and dangerous mutants. Odd, but certainly enticing!

Monster Harvest is going to have all the usual amenities of a farming game. From a fully customizable farm all the way to a growing border-town with problems all of its own. We'll see how it stacks up to genre greats, but so far, things are looking good.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken

weird-upcoming-games-on-pc9

Franchise management games have always been a popular sub-genre, but Definitely Not Fried Chicken takes that a step further with a twist: the business you'll be managing in this game is a front for your drug trade. Neat.

In Definitely Not Fried Chicken, players will have to manage both sides of their coin. If you want to grow your marijuana, cocaine, and/or methamphetamine business, you'll first need to establish a convincing front. The only real way of going about that is to actually run a successful business while producing and dealing drugs on the side. It's a hell of a premise, with the devs citing Two Point Hospital, Prison Architect, and Tropico 6 as some of the games they looked up to.

The snazzy visual style featured in Definitely Not Fried Chicken is a cherry on top of this exciting cake, and though it hasn't yet received a proper release date, we're very excited to see how masters of the genre contend with this kind of complexity in motion.

Foreclosed

Another purported 2021 release, Foreclosed is a high-concept action-adventure game that's going to mesh a whole bunch of different genres and niches into one. We've seen isometric stealth sections, over-the-shoulder shooting parts, Mass Effect-like dialogue, and a number of other niches that looked strangely at home in Foreclosed.

One of the main sources of inspiration for Foreclosed must have been the legendary Phillip K. Dick novel A Scanner Darkly, and its subsequent silver screen iteration. Granted, Foreclosed does have that typical indie jank that some of us love and others detest, but we're very much in love with the idea regardless.

Weird Upcoming Games on PC: Excited Yet?

As we already said, the 10 titles featured above merely scratch the surface of what else we'll be getting over the next couple of years.
