There's precious little consensus out there on what the very best Sims 4 DLCs are, really. From what we've seen so far, this may well be by design. As you may or may not know, any baseline Sims game is merely the starting point for developers to build upon. Having hit the ground running back in 2014, The Sims 4 is still receiving major expansion packs, and that's because each and every one of them caters to a particular niche.

To that end, players who aren't particularly interested in animals probably won't think much of the game's awesome Cats & Dogs DLC. Similarly, those of you who aren't keen on house furnishing probably won't be too keen on the game's latest Dream Home Decorator DLC.

By slowly filling out their repertoire of content, The Sims 4 developers have managed to make something to everyone's taste! To highlight this achievement, and to show you what a cool little boon this new DLC is, we've assembled a list of the 5 best Sims 4 DLCs. Before getting to that, though, let's check out the Dream Home Decorator DLC. Just to see how EA's approach has evolved over time.

The Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator DLC Overview

As we said, The Sims 4 has been out for quite some time now. Not that you could necessarily tell, though, as the game's aged about as gracefully as any Sims title before it has. The stylized visuals are really pulling it off here, we feel, because while the assets may be somewhat less detailed than you'd expect out of a 2021 release, they definitely don't look bad.

The Sims 4's latest expansion pack, Dream Home Decorator, makes good use of these assets.

As the title surely implies, Dream Home Decorator is all about that furniture. The DLC itself introduces a veritable wealth of new pieces to outfit your home with, but the more important addition is that of the all-new Active Career for you to pursue. If you ever wanted to be a home decorator, this may well be your opportunity to do so!

If you decide for your Sim to become a home decorator, you'll basically unlock access to a wide variety of home retrofit jobs, both simple and complex. You'll need to talk to your clients, get a sense of what they want, tune into their likes and dislikes, and come up with an update to their existing living space, this way or the other. It's all pretty well done, and the sheer variety on show is impressive, to say the least.

Is 'Dream Home Decorator' one of the best Sims 4 DLCs?

Without the sliver of a doubt, we can tell you right now that those of you who enjoy tweaking your Sim's houses and furniture will love Dream Home Decorator. If you're wondering whether this DLC breaks the well-established mold that Maxis has come up with, though, then you may be disappointed.

Dream Home Decorator simply continues the legacy of Sims 4, as it offers more cool stuff for you to chase after. In that regard, it's pretty dang great! The before/after montages, for example, are lovely highlights of the objectives you complete. The integration of the relatively recent Likes & Dislikes content update into the core gameplay loop is a stellar choice, too.

Whether Dream Home Decorator makes it to our list of best Sims 4 DLCs, though, we'll have to wait and see a bit longer. For the architects and interior designers among you, it's a safe get.

Top 5 Best Sims 4 DLCs

#5: Cats & Dogs

If there was one thing The Sims had always been missing up until Cats & Dogs finally came out, it was the pet element. After all, there's nothing quite as homely as a cute, cuddly cat attempting to claw the eyes out of your vicious Labradoodle's head, is there now? All jokes aside, this particular piece of downloadable content was an instant hit primarily because they added a substantial new layer of gameplay to the mix. With an incredible array of customization options spanning both cats and dogs, as well as a bunch of cool pet-related activities for our Sims to partake in, we'd say that this is a real must-have for animal lovers.

#4: Island Living

Island Living is one of the major Sims 4 DLCs that adds an entirely new sandbox to explore and have fun in. In Island Living, players enjoy the entirely new Conservationist career path, which allows them to alter their surroundings to some extent. Then there are the mermaids, too, which did flabbergast us a tad when we first saw them. Either way, the vibe of Island Living is incredible, and it's a sure-fire way to enjoy the game if you're keen on the tropics and tropical environments. Besides, oceanfront building lots were an incredible addition all on their own.

#3: Discover University

This DLC has made its way onto our list for a variety of reasons, not least of which is just how comprehensive it was. Discover University is so full of fun activities and surprises that we're still not entirely sure if we had seen all it could offer. Take out loans, join clubs and steamroll college events, choose whether you'll live on the campus or not, what your side-gig should be... its only real downside is that it doesn't do much with the classes your Sim takes. Granted, you do get to tweak their timetable and everything else, so we suppose it's reasonably realistic in that regard, too.

#2: Eco Lifestyle

Eco Lifestyle is one of the weirder Sims 4 DLCs, even if only for the fact that it lets you use dumpsters as hook-up locations. All its weirdness aside, the features on offer here are basically must-haves for anyone who's environmentally aware. From being able to affect whether your living area leans towards eco-development or industry, all the way to implementing garbage collection and fabrication systems, Eco Lifestyle has got a surprising amount of content packed into it. Genuinely one of the best expansion packs the franchise's ever had, in our book.

#1: Seasons

We'd argue that the Seasons DLC is the ultimate Sims 4 DLC. If you're only going to be buying one of these expansion packs, it should probably be this one, no matter your preferences. Our reasoning behind this recommendation is that while most other DLCs are kinda niche and situational, Seasons is entirely universal. It adds event planning, birthday parties, unique seasonal events, and - of course - everything related to seasonal progression. From an in-game calendar all the way to holiday traditions and decorations. Definitely don't miss out on this one, trust us.
