Assault rifles? We're not sure where you stand on the matter, but Battlefield 2042 weapons and gadgets have loads of potential in our book. When you think about it, 2042 is just the right amount of time in the future for this to get truly spicy, but without veering heavily into the true science-fiction territory.

I mean the venerable AK-47 assault rifle and its innumerable variants are still in use even today - some 70-ish years following its inception. Hell, depending on where you go, you might even come across surplus WW2 firearms in action. To that end, Battlefield F2042 could easily feature all the weapons that are in active use today, including some good old sniper rifles or a light machine gun. On top of that, experimenting with some stranger stuff is on the table too, if DICE wishes to do so. The perfect combo!

Our article for the day aims to summarize all the awesome gear we've seen in Battlefield 2042 so far, as well as offer some expectations and predictions on what else we might be getting. Strap right in, because this is a very exciting topic!

Battlefield 2042 Weapons & Gadgets - Biggest Arsenal Yet?

Gunsmith in Battlefield 2042?

First things first, there's a reason why we're using Modern Warfare 2019 Gunsmith pictures for this article. For one, we're hard-pressed to think of a better weapon customization system in a recent AAA shooter. Secondly, a big reason for the game's popularity was - customization. Whether it was a new barrel assembly or a new skin that you wanted to throw on, you could! A new trigger? Absolutely. A custom stock? You know it! It was a great system to make your assault rifles your own, and we think that the Battlefield 2042 weapon categories might follow suit.

If you didn't have the chance to try out MW's rendition of Gunsmith, here's what you could modify on a weapon:

Naturally, not every firearm could accept every category of attachments, but boy was there a lot of stuff to work with. Now, Battlefield is no slouch when it comes to customization, but we'd hardly be surprised if DICE were to offer a similarly in-depth and granular gun modification system for your favorite assault rifle.

We know for a fact that weapons will be customizable, and we know that we're getting skins, too. On top of that, dangly bits are making an appearance, too: you can pre-order right now to get the Mr. Chompy T-Rex weapon charm.

Switching attachments on the fly?

An important change compared to how previous versions of Battlefield implemented customization is that we'll now be able to take a few attachments with us into combat. That's right - Battlefield 2042's Plus System will let us switch between up to two additional items in the following categories:

Presumably, the actual customization system will offer a larger variety of categories to fiddle with. It makes sense, after all, that you wouldn't be able to switch the barrel or trigger assemblies on the fly, or change the stock you've got stuck to your gun. What Plus System will do, though, is that it will let you modify your carried weapon for the ongoing engagement.

This way, players can switch between marksman and CQB loadouts without losing their momentum. We can't wait to see how Plus System pans out in practice.

Confirmed Battlefield 2042 Weapons

As should be expected, we're hardly the only ones excited about the prospect of playing BF2042. The good people over at IMFDB, for example, are already compiling a comprehensive list of Battlefield 2042 weapons, and we opted to use their sources to assemble a similar showing.

Overall, 2042's arsenal won't feature wacky railguns and similar sci-fi staples front-and-center. We're still getting reliable workhorse firearms, though with slight visual revisions, depending on the assault rifle. The AK-12, for example, is going to be featured in a refreshed AK-24 setup. Instead of the regular M4 carbine, too, a more tacticool Daniel Defense variant will be available. That's not to say that classics won't be available, of course. You'll get your sniper rifle, for example. For all we know, the game might feature unique skins that entirely change the weapon model, much as Modern Warfare did a few years back.

An important thing we ought to mention here is that both primary weapons and secondary weapons will be entirely class-agnostic this time around. DICE has decided to decouple weapon families from specific classes to foster a more level playing field between different player profiles. To that end, sniper rifle engineers and SMG-toting medics will be a thing in BF2042.

That's about all we've got so far, though we've got little doubt that DICE and EA will reveal larger batches of available assault rifles as we near the game's release date. We'll keep updating this list of Battlefield 2042 weapons as we get more info, so stay tuned.

Battlefield 2042 Gadgets - Utility Reigns Supreme

Of course, if you've been keeping track of Battlefield 2042 news, then you know that weapons are just half of the equation. The other half comes from BF2042's veritable wealth of gadgets and gameplay twists, some of which we've already seen. Now, it's worth pointing out that we're not sure yet if all the gadgets will be locked behind Specialist character.

We're reasonably sure that the answer is a resounding no, because character classes are still a thing, with Specialists being a further specialization of their given niche. Makes sense, right? Medics and healers will still have their usual repertoire of support items, and recon units will still have detections and sensors to fiddle around with.

On top of those, though, we've got a few special extras to consider!

There's no reason why we shouldn't expect the usual repertoire of gadgetry on top of these. Think explosive implements, mines, scopes of all sorts, stealth gear such as ghillie suits... With BF2042, the sky's the limit, and we're sure DICE have got a few tricks up their proverbial sleeves at this point. In all likelihood, it's gadgets that the game's 2042 moniker will be most important for. Guns are guns, after all, but utility is where true progression usually happens in shooters.

Of course, some of the most interesting gadgets may be locked to specific Specialists, but that may well be the only way to balance them down the line.

What's Your Loadout Going to Be?

For the time being, the vast majority of BF 2042's undoubtedly considerable arsenal remains unshown. We've seen a few weapons, an assault rifle here and there, some sniper rifles, and some gadgets so far, to be sure, but DICE has a penchant for going all-in when it comes to Battlefield 2042 weapons. Really, we can't wait to see what the full repertoire of armaments looks like.

Best of all, players who like to fiddle around and try stuff out will have the opportunity to do so stress-free! After all, BF2042 will include a comprehensive single-player bot mode, if that's how you want to strut your run and gun playstyle. We're reasonably sure that this will be the sandbox to come up with builds and test them out in a live environment. The only thing that remains to be seen, really is how progression will behave if you're not playing with other players. We'll have to wait and see, though.

Battlefield 2042 is set to come out via Steam on October 23. In the months and weeks before that, we'll keep this article topped-off and up-to-date with the latest reveals and developments. Do check in from time to time if you're as eager to learn more about EA's flagship multiplayer shooter!
