For the first time in probably forever, TT Games' latest flagship LEGO release can actually be min-maxed. You read that right - there's a comprehensive list of best upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga that you absolutely want to unlock as early as possible. Today, we'll go over them, and explain what each of them does and why you want them.

Basically, the gist of it is that LEGO games have now undergone a bit of a paradigm shift. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga represents TT Games' first attempt to properly revolutionize what they do as a company. Sure enough, the game isn't perfect, but boy is it friggin' stellar.

One of the big things that have changed, then, is progression. Unlike just about every other LEGO game made by Traveler's Tales, The Skywalker Saga has got character upgrades and modifications. The game's not too difficult, but it is a collector's dream come true because boy is there a lot to collect.

Obviously, then, there are certain upgrades you're going to want to grab as soon as possible. These will, in turn, facilitate quality-of-life improvements to make the rest of the game that much more appealing and fun!

Top 10 Best Upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga

Generally, we've discovered that upgrading Core abilities will be a good idea early on. These apply to any and all of your characters in equal measure, and most of the game's puzzling isn't actually locked behind a character class upgrade after all. So, the majority of class-specific upgrades are, in fact, quality-of-life improvements, whereas Core upgrades are generally must-haves.

#10: Health Recovery Speed (Core)

Best Upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga: Pic 1

Combat is somewhat sparse in this game, so it might seem odd for several combat-related items to have made it onto this list of best upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga at first. The kicker, though, is that enemies do hit pretty hard in some places. The further you progress through the campaigns, the harder the encounters get.

That's precisely why you want your health recovery speed to be pretty high on the list of things to upgrade. The faster your characters can get back into the fight, the more action there is. The more action there is, the more fun you can have. Without losing your hard-earned currency, at least.

#9: Expert Climber (Scavenger)

Every so often, you'll come across a hill, a building, or a... thing that can be climbed. The choice to actually make that climb, then, makes itself! The thing about these encounters, however, is that most of them will be optional, and optional content is generally more difficult than mainline content in this LEGO game.

So, to make falling off a building as painless as possible (ha!), you're going to want to get your Scavenger characters and upgrade their Expert Climber ability. This will make the experience way smoother and more enjoyable across the board.

#8: Dark Rise (Dark Side)

Best Upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga: Pic 3

Whereas this ability's description only really makes note of its combat capabilities, it's worth pointing out that it's immensely useful as a utility tool, too. By upgrading Dark Rise to its maximum level, Dark Side characters can lift the biggest objects on the map, unlocking new side-quests and activities across the galaxy.

To be fair, being able to pick up and throw huge enemies just as easily as the small ones is a neat touch.

#7: Speedy Sprint (Core)

LEGO Skywalker Saga has got some big maps. Vehicles exist, as do rideable animals, sure, but simply being able to run faster is an invaluable tool in this game. What's particularly cool about the passive sprint speed buff is that it stacks with other mobility skills and translates into combat as well.

Upgraded melee capabilities are that much more useful if you can close the distance quickly, no? To say nothing of environmental puzzles and such.

#6: Counter Cash (Core)

Studs are used for just about everything in this game, and investing in abilities that increase the rate at which you get them is crucial over the long term. Counter Cash is one of these abilities.

Quite simply, for each and every encounter you finish with Counter Cash active, you get a set number of extra studs by default. It doesn't matter how long or short the encounter is, or how difficult it might be. As long as it finishes, you get up to 750 studs extra. And - yes - it stacks with other similar abilities.

#5: Melee Weapon Power (Core)

Here's a simple one - the more you upgrade this ability, the more damage will your characters deal in melee combat. As this includes both boss and regular combat sequences, it's a stellar choice if you don't know what else to invest your Kyber Bricks into.

#4: Ranged Weapon Power (Core)

Arguably, bumping up your ranged characters' damage is more important than improving their melee DPS output. This is because melee is, by default, the easier and more sensible choice. Ranged weapons deal less damage and it will take longer for you to take enemies down with them compared to melee.

#3: Hidden Bounties (Bounty Hunter)

Best Upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga: Pic 9

Bounty Hunter characters are easily the best choice for free-roam stud farming sessions. Quite simply, when outfitted with Hidden Bounties, the class can farm huge stud drops simply by taking down enemies, and this makes it a delight if you need heaps upon heaps of studs in short order - which you do.

The investment isn't even that big if you think about it. Combine this with Counter Cash and your account will be flush with studs in no time.

#2: Attract Studs (Core)

Sometimes, it's just about impossible to collect all the studs that drop from broken LEGO clutter, and Attract Studs easily and quickly solves that issue. The more you invest in this skill, the more effective will it be, and the fewer studs will you lose out on whenever something breaks in the distance.

This is also a must-have for players that just don't feel like running after each and every stud that drops, and it's quickly going to pay off for itself.

#1: Collectible Detector (Core)

Best Upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga: Pic 7

This is the ability to go after. The LEGO Skywalker Saga is a delightful action-adventure, for sure, but its main draw is the sheer collectability of its items. From unique characters all the way to minifigs and ships, there's a little special something for everyone to hunt after.

By investing in Collectible Detector, this job is made all the more enjoyable! Basically, you'll get an alert whenever there's a collectible nearby, and by upgrading the ability, it's going to highlight a greater array of unique items strewn across the map!

Closing Thoughts

Now that you know which are the best upgrades in LEGO Skywalker Saga, the entire experience should be that much more sensible and fun to play. Naturally, if you're just getting ready to start, you're going to need some early-progression tips & tricks, but those are way easier to come to terms with.

Even though TT Games will be switching over to Unreal Engine 5 for their next project, they've shown that they've got the chutzpah to evolve the franchise once and for all. The Skywalker Saga isn't a perfect game, but it is a more engaging one. It does lean more towards its open-world content than one might prefer, but it's worth the switch.

If TT is to lean into progression and collection even further with their next project, now that will be a real winner. In the interim, though, whether LEGO Skywalker Saga makes it to our list of top 100 PC games of 2022 is anyone's guess at this point, but odds are pretty solid so far.
