The Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod is, well, seamless! I mean, boy howdy, Elden Ring sure is a neat game. If we had to choose a downside to it, however, it'd be its implementation of multiplayer. Indeed, there wouldn't have to be an Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod in the first place if the game supported regular cooperative multiplayer by default.

Naturally, there's a reason why FromSoftware handles multiplayer the way it does. Much like almost every other feature in Elden Ring, it, too, is defined and limited by the interrelationship between gameplay and lore. And, of course, the atmosphere that developers wanted to establish.

So, Elden Ring's baseline multiplayer is rather limited. That's true enough, and some players might even prefer it that way. For those who do not, however, and for those who'd like to play at least one co-op session with their usual playgroup, Seamless Co-Op Mod is a must-have.

What Does The Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod Do?

In most respects, Seamless Co-Op is a feature-rich expansion of Elden Ring's core multiplayer functionality. Built by LukeYui - a popular FromSoft modder - this mod embellishes and improves upon just about every aspect of the core game's multiplayer. It even does some things you wouldn't ever expect a mod could (or would) do.

While building an all-new multiplayer framework for a large and sprawling ARPG might sound all but impossible. LukeYui managed to get things going. The mod is currently in its beta-testing stage. As the mod page aptly puts it: "If you are looking for a bug free experience, you won't find it in this version [of the mod]." And yes, that is indeed true.

Regardless, we're looking at a complete paradigm shift for Elden Ring multiplayer. If you've got up to four people total who want to play at least one co-op session of Elden Ring as a group - here's your ticket!

Key Features

Right off the bat, it's worth pointing out that - yes - this mod does make the game easier. There's no going about it: Elden Ring is built around a limited implementation of cooperative multiplayer. This mod cannot hope to rebalance the entire game to accommodate for a full 4-player group (though it does scale enemies up a bit). So, don't think of Seamless Co-Op as a competitive, lore-friendly mod at all. Instead, it's all about fun.

So, here's what you can expect out of Elden Ring's first major co-op mod at this point:

Now, it's also worth pointing out that this is not a janky implementation. There are a bunch of features and options in place that make the mod feel like a natural upgrade to the core Elden Ring experience.

For example, if just one player dies during a challenging fight, they'll respawn at the last Site of Grace they visited. Others, however, can carry on just fine. This gives the whole session a natural, smooth progression that keeps players engaged at all times: no need to reconnect and whatnot! You will, however, be affected by one of the five types of stackable rot debuffs after dying, so there are consequences in place.

Choose how you play!

The biggest draw of this mod is its scalability, we believe. Want to go out and look for secrets while others fight a boss? No problem!

Players can separate or play together, and LukeYui seems to have thought ahead to handle most potential issues with this design choice. If one player were to enter a Site of Grace while others are fighting a boss, everyone will be pulled out of the fight to minimize the potential for abuse. Neat stuff!

Of course, since this mod uses an offline version of the launcher, it's worth pointing out that there are no Invasions. To that end, the Stake of Marika, too, is disabled. If you're running Elden Ring with this mod and a playgroup, that's all the help you're getting, and that's a fair decision.

How To Install Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod?

It's almost ridiculous how easy it is to install the Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod. Here's what you want to do:

Now, the reason why it's important to set a secure (and secret!) password is that Seamless Co-Op actually uses Steam's own matchmaking interface to connect players to one another. As the system is rather mature and streamlined, this means joining sessions is really easy. All you need to know is the password itself, and if the game doesn't have any further "gates" hampering the process, you'll join momentarily.

Back to the topic at hand - once you're in-game (preferably using a new character on a new save file, too, to save yourself a potential headache), you'll be granted three new important connectivity items:

And, if you ever want to play Elden Ring as per usual - you can! Just use the regular .exe and you're golden. Couldn't be easier, all things considered!

Is it compatible with other mods?

LukeYui built this co-op mod to be as compatible with other mods as humanly possible. This means that framerate unlockers and ultrawide resolution support should all work fine across the board. If your playgroup decides to use some extra stuff, such as a content randomizer, however, you will all need to install the exact same mods for things to work nominally.

Can this mod work on consoles?

This mod cannot work on consoles at this time. As it uses SteamWorks as its multiplayer infrastructure, it is unlikely to ever support a non-PC version of Elden Ring.

Can I use my existing character?

Technically, you can. We did mention that you should prepare for some fiddling in order to do so, however. Namely, you'll need to convert your regular Elden Ring save file to a co-operative save file, and LukeYui goes into some detail on how to do that on his Nexus page. Keep in mind, too, that you cannot do vice-versa, as that may result in your ban from the game.

A Must-Have For Elden Ring Multiplayer?

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have got an absolute slam dunk on their hands with Elden Ring, that's for sure. The sheer zeitgeist that this game captured during its pre-release hype and its subsequent release is mind-blowing, and it's an absolute certainty that it'll make its way onto our list of top 100 PC games of all time.

Bandai Namco has plenty of other awesome games to show for it, but Elden Ring is effectively a once-in-a-game-generation release. While it could be argued that Dark Souls titles had a similar effect, however, Dark Souls games didn't get ample modding support until well after they had been noticed.

Since Elden Ring is already enjoying attention from the modding community via Nexus, it is far likelier to remain a hotspot of gaming activity than anything FromSoft had produced before. And, as we've shown today, Seamless Co-Op Mod is here to really drive that point home.
