Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2024! Just taking a gander at one of its screenshots or gameplay trailers explains plainly why this is the case: not only have we never had a mainstream Journey to the West video game adaptation, but Chinese myth is sadly mostly overlooked in modern media. Wukong is, therefore, extremely interesting in more ways than one.
It gets better, too: Black Myth looks absolutely phenomenal. As it runs on Epic's own Unreal Engine 5, the game is bound to deliver the sorts of graphical fidelity that guarantee a steep hardware requirement curve. Albeit, one that's well worth the price of admission! When is Wukong coming out, though?
Black Myth: Wukong is coming out on PC on August 20, 2024. As it currently stands, we don't have any real reason the believe the developer might need to push the release window forward. In other words, we fully expect Wukong to meet its launch date as planned!
Note, though, that there are a lot of unknowns related to Black Myth: Wukong still. The developer, Game Science, has previously only produced a niche 2016 sci-fi strategy Art of War: Red Tides. This makes the studio a bit of a wildcard, in that we've got no hard track record to draw upon to set our expectations.
This, combined with Black Myth: Wukong's apparently extremely high-quality production, makes the game particularly interesting from a technical perspective. We already highlighted how Wukong runs on Unreal Engine 5, which obviously implies it won't run great on low-spec PCs. For more information on how that might or might not pan out, though, we'll need to wait until mid-ish August!
Though there aren't any expansion packs or DLCs planned for Black Myth: Wukong at this time, the developer makes it clear that they are not off the docket entirely: "In the future, we may introduces DLCs and in-game purchases," says the official FAQ, " but rest assured that the game will never become pay-to-win. This is our commitment, and we invite everyone to take a screenshot of this answer to remind us if you ever feel we have strayed from it."
It's a fair way of putting things, and it should assuage any major concerns you might have about Wukong's potential monetization structures!
