The wait is finally over: Ready or Not is back at it again with a big new content drop, so it's time to peel ourselves back from other, similar titles, and step back into the shoes of a Los Suenos SWAT officer as they contend with the conspiracy of a lifetime. That's right: the new Home Invasion DLC is now available, but as it is relatively expensive, you may be wondering if it's worth the asking price in the first place.

That's where we come into the picture, as we've prepared a comprehensive overview of all the goodies you get as part of Ready or Not: Home Invasion. Further, having spent some time playing its new home invasion-themed operations, we can tell you if it's worth spending money on.

Ready or Not: Home Invasion Overview - Is It Worth the Asking Price?

Let's get one thing clear right off the bat: Home Invasion isn't a complete revamp of what Ready or Not is and is not. This is, for all intents and purposes, a true-to-form expansion of the core RoN tactical experience. In other words, if you wanted more of the game, you're getting heaps more with this DLC, but it's not attempting to innovate in any meaningful way.

As the story goes, Ready or Not's new Home Invasion missions are all set following the record-breaking Category 5 Hurricane Antonio, which has caused untold damage to Los Suenos at large. Amidst all the problems that has brought up for the city and its infrastructure, the local downtrodden are attempting numerous home invasions to loot whatever is available, thinking they have a chance to get away.

What this means is that Ready or Not: Home Invasion takes a few steps back from the base game's human trafficking narrative and leans into something a bit more grounded. So, if that's what you were hoping to see, you're in luck.

New Gear, New Missions, New Options

In a more practical sense, though, we're looking at no less than three new LSPD missions to take on:

These take the LSPD SWAT on a surprisingly varied lineup of situations, ranging from Greenside's catastrophically damaged low-end areas of Los Suenos all the way to Redwood's gated communities beset by rampaging gangs. Throw in some assorted gang warfare into the mix, and voila - you've got a heck of a situation at hand.

Now, something to keep in mind is that these home invasion scenarios are not a part of the main storyline and, as such, are not available in the game's main Commander mode on day one. It's a bit of a bummer, we know, but  they are readily accessible in the skirmish-tier Training mode, and as long as one player in your playgroup has them, you can also access them for free while playing with them.

A Solid Bang-for-Buck offering

Ready or Not: Home Invasion also comes alongside the huge Unreal Engine 5 upgrade for the game, which means there's a few technical issues that will need to be sorted out over the next couple of days and weeks. Yet, for just $10, it's hard to argue with three additional missions, a bevy of new gear and customization options, and more.

That's right, though, the Los Suenos SWAT armory has been thoroughly upgraded with a substantial set of new weapons:

These can be fully outkitted with the usual array of gadgets and sighting systems, but your custom SWAT operator can also be snazzier than ever before. Home Invasion includes the following gear:

As you can tell by now, there's a lot of goodness packed into this one $10 DLC, and we're more than happy to refer to it as a veritable expansion pack in all the ways that matter. Note, of course, that Ready or Not's mod lineup is currently a tad slim due to all of its older mods having to be updated to Unreal Engine 5 and whatnot, but the modders are already on the case, so that should be cleared up in a matter of weeks, too.

There's even more value packed into Ready or Not: Home Invasion, it's worth highlighting. The developer VOID Interactive has deployed an allegedly "significant" rework of the AI behavior for both suspects and civilians, including a comprehensive AI zoning system, contextual hesitation, and stress level action lockouts. All in all, the experience of playing Ready or Not should now be much, much more sensible and in line with how perpetrators behave in the real-world.

Ready or Not is, then, now closer to a proper SWAT 4 successor than it's ever been before, and the new Home Invasion DLC comes highly recommended from the team here at 2Game. We'll have to test the game out more thoroughly to see how the AI improvements pan out, of course, but everything works swimmingly so far, and we hope we'll see you keeping order in Los Suenos as well.
