I feel like I'm channeling my inner dad with all these flight puns, but when it comes to the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, I just don't seem to be able to restrain myself!
OK, now that's off my chest, let's get down to business. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is looking very promising. The graphics are stunning, the attention to detail is out of this world, and the Career Mode looks thoroughly immersive. And that's not to mention the competitive Challenge League, Red Bull, and Reno Air Races that will be sure to get your blood pumping.
We're excited. The only slight apprehension is, considering the hefty specs of its predecessor, will the new features and enhancements come at a hardware cost? How much is expected of a setup to experience these new highs? Is your PC flight-ready?
Let's take a look at the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 System Requirements to find out!
As noted, MFS 2020 was awesome, but the requirement of 150 GB storage was no joke. Well, for those concerned for their SSDs, fear not - we bring good news! Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 calls for just a third of the storage space needed by its predecessor. This is thanks to the cloud streaming technology, which means you only stream what you see at any point as opposed to having to pre-download hundreds of gigabytes.
Take a look for yourselves:
Feeling reassured? I hope so. The reduced storage needs are definitely a win, and for the most part it looks like even an old-ish setup will be able to handle the game.
For a smooth flying experience, the only thing to be aware of is making sure you're up to par in terms of RAM, especially for the recommended settings. Also, you'll need a pretty good internet connection if you don't want to encounter turbulence/lag. Indeed, initial indicators show you'll need more like 180 Mbps of internet bandwidth at times when you're flying over populated areas.
Hopefully these won't constitute deal-breakers, however. It's just good to be prepared. After all, you wouldn't want to miss out on these views! I mean, we're talking an experience that’s as close to real-world piloting as it gets - if that isn't something worth shouting from the clouds about, I don't know what is.
