Monster Hunter Wilds might not have an absolutely immense day-one Large Monster roster, but the creatures that are present sure are neat! Well, "neat" might not be a word appropriate for some of the later fights due to how challenging they get, but you know what we mean. Some of these creatures, like Arkveld for example, can be turned into particularly fancy hats if you're at it for long enough, but that means farming and grinding.

If you're looking to set yourself up with a set of fancy Arkveld-themed armors and weapons, then we've got some important tips and tricks to share with you. Everyone's got their own tactics for dealing with any given Monster Hunter creature, so we're not looking to give you a 20-page diatribe on what exactly to do in each specific part of the encounter. Instead, we've got a fairly exhaustive list of recommendations that will help you deal with Arkveld no matter whether you find it in Low or High-Rank fights.

Arkveld Hunting Guide for Monster Hunter Wilds

A massive flying Wyvern that nudges Monster Hunter Wilds' main campaign mode into high gear, the Arkveld is a newly re-discovered monster that drains its foes of elemental energy to... well, use it as its own. You know how it goes.

Though it's not a common spawn, the Arkveld can appear in any of Monster Hunter Wilds' five main regions. It can also initiate Turf War instances with a huge number of other Large Monsters, and it's going to try to topple them to subsume their elemental energy if possible. Now, the thing to keep in mind about Arkveld is that it's not in and of itself an elemental Wyvern. Instead, it's a dedicated Dragon-type Wyvern that's weak exclusively to Dragonblight attacks, though obviously any kind of damage will do something to it.

The more energy Arkveld can absorb, the more powerful it gets. The go-to tactic for dealing with this empowering process is for Hunters to target Arkveld's wings. Energy is stored in the wings, you see, and you can overload Arkveld by continuously attacking them with elemental attacks. This snaps Arkveld out of its "enraged" state and makes it easier to deal with on the ground.

We highly recommend stocking up a bunch of Flash Pods when going after the Arkveld. It's susceptible to flashes of any sort, and pods will make it possible to get in a few strong attacks when the going gets tough. You can also fire them off to stop Arkveld from attacking if necessary. This is particularly handy if it grabs you with its chains, so always have a round ready to go in your slinger.

Now, outside of its wings, Arkveld's got exactly two weakspots for you to focus on: the head and the tail. Since the head is obviously not going to be particularly easy to target, the tail should be your go-to spot for the most part. Though you shouldn't attack the creature's unique chain appendages for the most part, do attack them when they begin to glow. Dealing enough damage to Arkveld's chains while they're aglow can cause them to explode, which immediately topples the creature and makes it an easy target for a little while.
