Good Warhammer PC games have made many a childhood over the years. The franchise rules supreme when it comes to its various strategy offerings, in particular. If you haven't been keeping up with releases, we'd like to show you the best Warhammer games you could be playing right now on PC, and explain why you should check them out in 2020 if you haven't yet had the chance.
We'll try and cover every niche that Warhammer PC games have been present in, ranging from 40k to fantasy. Since Games Workshop has greatly diversified its licensing range over the past few years, there's hardly any issue with variety! In fact, the sheer volume of Warhammer releases might've been enough for some of the games to have gone completely under your radar. Luckily, that's where we come in.
Below you'll find our selection of the finest Warhammer and Warhammer 40k games 2020, as well as explanations on why, precisely, we feel they're as good as they are. At the risk of sounding clickbaity - some picks may surprise you! Now, let's get on with it.
It's no secret that, in most cases, Warhammer 40k steals the thunder from Warhammer fantasy. At least as far as the general content awareness is concerned. Thankfully, the last decade or so has given us way more leeway in this regard. Two game series, in particular, stand out in the Warhammer fantasy arena.
The first is, naturally, the astonishingly good Total War: Warhammer, where all those mythical battles fought throughout the history of this incredible universe come to life in the most vicious, goriest way possible.
The second, however, is way more close-up and personal. It's the Left 4 Dead-like Vermintide series, where players mow through hordes of creatures in first-person combat.
Depending on where your preferences may lie, you've got quite the selection between these two Warhammer fantasy series. Best of all, both Vermintide II and Total War II are still undergoing active development, with new content releases coming in fast and hard.
No matter which you decide to go with, be prepared for lots of blood, and lots of gore. That's Warhammer for ya!
The sci-fi variant of the Warhammer universe, Warhammer 40k, has also proliferated over the years. Yet again - strategy games rule supreme, and we've got offerings both for fans of the turn-based and of the real-time strategy genres. We'll kick things off with the fan-favorite Dawn of War series!
It's difficult to overstate just how important - and awesome - the Dawn of War games are, and playing them even if only for their historic value is practically a must. If you've been gaming for some time, chances are that you've already had a good run with Dawn of War. Should that be the case, we must also show you the recent turn-based Mechanics game!
Here, players don't control the Astartes or any other such hardcore faction. Instead, they become the head honcho of the zealous Adeptus Mechanics, a severely underrepresented subset of the Imperium of Man. Your main enemy? The Necron, and you'll duke it out with them in XCOM-like turn-based combat. Great fun!
For shooter fans who might've missed out on it, we can also sing praise about Space Marine. This prototypical third-person shooter is a great representation of how infantry combat works in Warhammer 40k. From the perspective of an Ultramarine, no less.
If you're in the market for something light and fast, the Warhammer franchise has plenty to offer, too. Two games, in particular, stand out, as they've been ported to and adapted for PC from mobile platforms. First is Space Wolf, a turn-based strategy with trading card game elements.
Should you be sick and tired of strategy games, however, you may find Kill Team to be more your speed. This is a 3D sidescroller where players take up arms as a variety of Space Marine specialists and bring the fight to the enemies of the Imperium. Plenty of items to farm out, plenty of enemies to gib into submission!
Of course, all of the above is just the vertical slice of all the stuff we've got on offer. Pick and choose from our full Warhammer franchise catalog, and find your new favorite game here!
