Though Avowed might seem like the quaintest, most unexciting fantasy when you kick things off, it doesn't take long before things get really dark. Spoilers alert for the second act of Avowed: you've been warned!

Basically, by the time you've reached the city of Fior mes Ivèrno in Avowed's Emerald Stair region, you may start hearing murmurs of strange, heavily armored men prowling about the place. Much as you'd expect, these heavily armored troops are Steel Garrote militants, and even though Avowed doesn't outright spell this out for you, you can intercept them and prevent Fior mes Ivèrno from being burned down.

Here's exactly what you need to do to save Fior mes Ivèrno in Avowed!

How to save Fior mes Ivèrno in Avowed?

One of the worst things about Fior mes Ivèrno's fate in Avowed is that it's entirely preventable and even quite easy to resolve, if you know where to look. The fact of the matter is that the Steel Garrote is amassing its troops for an assault on Fior mes Ivèrno extremely close to the actual city itself.

To find the militants, all you need to do is to leave Fior mes Ivèrno via its main southern exit and then follow the road westwards, towards the main bridge. When you're at the bridge, simply hop on down under it and locate the entryway to the Waterfall Cave, which is being used as a staging ground by the Steel Garrote.

Most crucially, you need to get rid of this particular Steel Garrote encampment before you've completed the Ancient Soil main quest. If you don't, the Steel Garrote is going to attack Fior mes Ivèrno while it's being beset by Dreamscourge Thralls and burn it to the ground.

Now, there are several things to keep in mind about this entirely optional and rather easy-to-miss side-activity. Firstly, even though the game doesn't outright spell out what's going on at the Waterfall Cave, it will keep giving you hints that something is amiss. The bit that makes the Steel Garrote camp extremely missable is the fact that Avowed's second act is extremely eventful and keeps you running and throwing side-quests at you from the very start until after the Ancient Soil quest is wrapped up.

So, if you're even remotely interested in saving Fior mes Ivèrno in Avowed, make sure that you visit the Waterfall Cave sooner, rather than later. Good luck, though, because the Steel Garrote will give you a run for your money for sure.
