What is the best Warhammer 3 DLC? I mean, it really shouldn't be any surprise that the team here at 2Game is incredibly excited about the prospect of Total War: Warhammer 3's upcoming super campaign. As many of you will already know, this massive game-spanning mode - Mortal Empires - will basically be a sandbox featuring virtually all the content from all the previous Total Warhammer games, including the DLCs. This is why knowing what the best Mortal Empires 3 DLC is will prove absolutely crucial.
After all, there's a lot of DLC out there for the Total Warhammer games. Being able to pick and choose the ones you definitely don't want to miss isn't all that easy!
This article is for those of you who don't actually have the time (or money) to just buy everything all at once. Now, the obvious caveat you need to also keep in mind is that the base Total Warhammer games will offer the best bang-to-buck ratio for most players. Each of the two predecessor games comes with a huge array of content, as well as featuring all the baseline races and factions.
Surely, this is an important consideration for those who want a lot of content with heaps of variety right off the bat. So, consider getting the following (even if only at a discount!):
Between these two games, you'll get 9 playable races, 27 Legendary Lords, and a huge array of factions and sub-factions to choose from. Plus the Total Warhammer 3 content, of course. A stellar deal, if we dare say so!
Now that that's settled, though, let's get to the best Mortal Empires 3 DLCs.
As thrilled as we are to recommend the first Total Warhammer game as an amazing "DLC" for Mortal Empires 3, its respective expansion packs have been superseded in virtually every way. Unless you're way into one of the original game's DLC factions and/or races, we'd advise you to forego them in lieu of Total Warhammer 2 DLC. To that end, our recommendations consist solely of TW2 stuff in the first place!
The simple truth is that Creative Assembly found an amazing stride with Total Warhammer 2. Alongside a bunch of stellar faction DLCs, we also got two massive expansion packs featuring unique additions - Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast, respectively. These are must-haves in our book, even though they are somewhat more expensive than most other TW DLCs are.
Odds are, too, that you'll need to get TW2 in order to purchase any of the following DLCs. That much ought to be obvious by default, but it's a good thing, too. The base TW games add the most content per dollar by far. Get them!
Curse of the Vampire Coast is - arguably - the best piece of DLC Creative Assembly's put out so far. It's huge, filled to the brim with content, and features a huge new campaign and a roster of new features in TW: W2. The undead vampire unit archetype it adds, too, offers a unique combat dynamic you'll find nowhere else. Sure, it's the undead, but they're pirates and sirens now. Exciting stuff!
Rise of the Tomb Kings is, at its core, an "Egyptian"-themed Curse of the Vampire Coast. It's even focused on the Undead, to begin with. Albeit, with this DLC, you're getting mummies, sphynx-like constructs, and assorted monstrosities. These powerful legions will be an amazing choice for those of you who want to sow unlife and look snazzy while doing it. After all, this specific aesthetic is heavily underrepresented in Warhammer lore.
A perfect choice for the edgelords among us, The Shadow & The Blade offers a unique view at a clash between two verifiably evil factions - the Dark Elves and the Skaven. Depending on whether you're more into abject brutality or stealth assassinations, you may choose between the Darkblade or the Deathmaster - both of whom will be wonderful once Mortal Empires 3 really gets going.
The narrative setup for The Warden & The Paunch is pretty classic - Elves versus Orks. This alone means that it's a standard fantasy trope that can feel pretty amazing in a grand strategy such as Total Warhammer. On top of that, fans of either of these races will get access to some stellar new units and Lords, both of which could very well prove downright invaluable in attempting to win a match of Mortal Empires.
Albeit seemingly unexciting at first glance, The Hunter & The Beast offers a wonderfully tried-and-true story of humankind coming to clash with nature. Or, depending on how you look at things, of vicious conquistadores looking to destroy the native lizard-people. Except, the lizard-people aren't all that nice, either. They're terrific, though, because they can field genuine dinosaurs into combat. Do you really need to know much else about this DLC, then?
We know, we know. It's not that the original Total Warhammer DLC is bad or anything - its successor just did this particular job way better. Besides, we already established that the best possible use of buckaroos in this regard would be to buy both of the two previous Total War: Warhammer games in the first place. DLCs are a different beast entirely.
If you'd like to learn more about Total War: Warhammer 3, but don't know where to start, our Everything We Know piece is a solid starting point. Of course, we've got plenty of extra content for you to check out, too. You can find our entire Total Warhammer article repository right here via the Community Hub, in fact.
We've got lots more coverage to go through before the game comes out sometime in 2022. Stay tuned because we think you'll be very interested in much of our upcoming stuff, too! This is, after all, one of the most exciting grand strategy game releases of all time. It's kinda hard not to get caught up in the hype. Let's hope that Creative Assembly doesn't disappoint, eh?
