Top 10 Must-Play Steam Deck Games in Early 2025 (In No Particular Order)

#10: Blacktail @ 65% off

We're very fond of niche, Slavic video games in particular, and Blacktail is one of our all-time favorites for sure. A first-person action game, Blacktail puts you into the shoes of young Yaga as she struggles to find her true self against the backdrop of Eastern European folklore. Runs great, looks incredible. This one's a real winner in our book.

#9: Curse of the Dead Gods @ 70% off

Roguelites are your forte? Well, look no further thanĀ the Curse of the Dead Gods at a whopping 70% off! This grim, Lovecraftian-adjacent twin-stick action game pulls no punches in its infinite loop of combat and survival. On the Deck, in particular, you'll find yourself coming back to the game over and over again.

#8: Othercide @ 85% off

An often overlooked turn-based combat puzzler, Othercide is a delightfully gloomy and edgy take on the end of the world as we know it. Think XCOM, but with an Evanescence kind of vibe to it. The game's awesome, though, and runs perfectly on handheld devices thanks to its squad-level gameplay. Don't miss out!

#7: Castle of Illusion @ 75% off

Mickey Mouse! We're not that keen on The Mouse in the grand scheme of things, but there's no denying the fact that Castle of Illusion is an excellent game throughout. We'll put it plainly: if it's a solid and fun platformer you're after, you're probably going to want to play Castle of Illusion sooner or later. Why not do so at 75% off, now that it's in?

#6: FAR: Changing Tides @ 70% off

A boy and his ship - the game. FAR: Changing Tides is a sequel to one of the best vehicular puzzle sidescrollers of all time, and you'd be remiss not to play it. It's a particularly enjoyable and immersive experience on the modern PC handhelds, where its unique gameplay elements truly come into its own. Get FAR, too, butĀ  if you're only going to play one of these games, make it Changing Tides in particular.

#5: Evil West @ 65% off

A severely underappreciated, yet awesome third-person cowboy/vampire shooter. Evil West is also remarkably well optimized, allowing you to gun down hordes of horrific, blood-sucking menaces wherever you want to. This is one of those games that would've felt natural back in the X360 era of gaming, and as such it's a perfect choice for the more nostalgic gamers.

#4: Sonic X Shadow Generations @ 25% off

The latest entry in the beloved Sonic saga is actually a kinda-sorta remake of the original Sonic Generations, but with about 50% more content in tow! Enjoy this ultimate rendition of the acclaimed Generations with loads more Shadow the Hedgehog content, and a fully up-to-date suite of graphics features keeps this fancy along the way.

#3: Judgment @ 70% off

Choosing the right Yakuza game to feature on this list was no mean feat, but we ended up settling on Judgment of all things. This mostly standalone side-story set in the Like a Dragon universe is a thrilling action-packed adventure that... no, we're kidding: it's got mini-games. Loads and loads (and loads) of awesome mini-games that'll keep you glued to your screen for times to come. What's not to like?

#2: Metaphor: ReFantazio @ 30% off

Guys, Metaphor: ReFantazio really is one of those games you have to see to believe. Once upon a time we had to wait and hope for the best as ATLUS prepared its prime-time RPGs for handheld releases, but that's no longer the case! This crowning jewel of modern JRPGs works on your Deck out-of-the-box, and it looks and plays like an absolute dream. Don't miss out on it, now that we've got it at 30% off!

#1: My Time at Sandrock @ 25% off

Farming games are a particularly lovely breed, and few of them are quite as engaging as Sandrock, if we're being honest. This is actually a post-apocalyptic ARPG, but it's not about surviving inasmuch as it is about thriving in the slowly rebuilding wastelands. Solid combat, loads of exploration, and more customization and progression than you could shake a sawn-off shotgun at! All of that awaits, and then some, and it's a natural fit for handheld PCs to boot.
