Bounty of Blood is the third major Borderlands 3 DLC we've seen so far, and it's looking to be the best of the bunch! Don't get us wrong: we're big fans of everything Gearbox has launched as part of the Borderlands 3 Season Pass. It's just that Borderlands 3 DLC 3 seems like it will introduce some truly game-changing content and features for all you budding Vault Hunters! To summarize them in a neat and tidy format, we've prepared a short overview of the Borderlands 3 characters, release date, content, trailer, and more!
Keep in mind that Gearbox has also provided us with a small hint on what DLC 4 might be dealing with: it's got something to do with Krieg from Borderlands 2. But - of course - all in due time. We'll go over all of these things one by one so that you're a well-informed reader by the time you've scrolled through!
If Handsome Jackpot was inspired by heist movies, and Guns, Love, and Tentacles wanted to pull a classic Borderlands Vault Hunter twist on love dramas, Bounty of Blood is a spaghetti western through-and-through. Even more so than the rest of Borderlands, which is crazy about the legend of the Wild West by default!
Vault Hunters will now have to square off against a vicious gang of beast-riding outlaws on the planet of Gehenna. Become a Vault Hunter and take justice into your own hands, in the style of Clint Eastwood. Borderlands 3 Bounty of Blood: A Fistful of Redemption will offer an all-new playing area with a vibrant city that evolves as the DLC's main storyline progresses. There's also a specific focus on newness this time around. Instead of bringing back characters from previous games, like DLC 1 and DLC 2 did, Bounty of Blood will deliver stuff we've never seen before in Borderlands. Plenty to be excited about, we feel!
As we said - plenty of novelties. The town of Vestige isn't going to be just another static world-hub for Vault Hunters to zoom through. "As you complete new story and side missions on Gehenna, your actions will have a tangible and lasting impact on the locals' livelihoods and on the town of Vestige itself," says the official pitch. Borderlands has never been a game for those who want the world to keep changing and evolving. In fact, being relatively static is a selling point of the looter genre.
Whereas previous games did offer world alterations at key sections of the story, the fact that Gearbox is promoting Vestige as an evolving area tells us that we're in for something different this time around. Time will tell!
Now, we did say that the Devil Rider gang rides genetically modified devils. To keep up with them, Vault Hunters will get an all-new Gehenna-exclusive biomechanical Jetbeast weapons platform. It's fast, it's zippy, and it's badass. Perfect for a Vault Hunter to deal damage to all nearby enemies. There will be plenty of Legendary Weapons coming too, we bet!
There are two Bounty of Blood characters we're excited to see in action. They are Rose and Juno; badass Sheriff-like figures of Vestige who want to bring Devil Riders down once and for all. We've not been told much about them at all, but they're fresh and interesting, so we can't wait to see what they bring to the table for Vault Hunters in DLC 3.
As we said, there's the whole 'evolving town' schtick, but Gearbox has also announced certain environmental features that could bring a whole new dimension to combat. For example, they've mentioned Traitorweeds, which turn enemies into temporary allies, and Breezeblooms, which boost the user high up into the air. There's supposedly more coming, too, so expect something new and different for your Vault Hunters, for sure.
Bounty of Blood release date is delightfully close by, as the DLC is set to launch on June 25! We're very thankful to Gearbox for not driving the hype engines entirely mad, as they've been announcing DLC news relatively close to their respective release dates. As it stands, we've got about a month's worth of time to burn through before DLC 3 is out. If you've not yet finished DLC 1 and DLC 2, well, now's your chance! They're quite awesome, so you're in for a wild, wild ride Mr/Ms Vault Hunter.
We're currently still waiting on the first Bounty of Blood trailer to drop, but rest assured: soon as it's out, we'll upload it here for your viewing pleasure! Check-in from time to time to keep a close eye on all the news we get for DLC 3!
That's right! We're getting a new Borderlands 3 Takedown at long last! As you may recall, we were quite happy with the Maliwan Takedown back when it first launched, though we did find it odd that Gearbox didn't push the game's endgame sections further in this direction.
Now, okay, these aren't Destiny raids, and Takedowns aren't exactly mechanically challenging, but they're fun! There's plenty of good loot dropping, too, and they're just difficult enough to keep things interesting. The next Takedown is going be Guardian Breach, and it's going to include low-gravity platforming sections, and even a puzzle or two. Villa Ultraviolet puzzle was pretty fun, so we're looking forward to seeing what else Gearbox might come up with!
Guardian Breach is going to launch a few weeks before DLC 3, on June 4. Expect an in-depth overview ASAP!
As of June 3rd - one day before the planned launch of Takedown at the Guardian Breach - Gearbox has made public their plans to support the BLM protests taking place across the USA. Much as many other gaming (and general media) companies, they, too, will be pushing back their content release schedule. To that end, the new Guardian Breach Takedown will be indefinitely postponed.
Gearbox is also boosting their 2K Foundations Program by $1,000,000 to fight racial injustice and inequality across the globe.
As always, we've also received a hint on what the next DLC after Bounty of Blood will be. This is some really exciting stuff, as we're looking at some proper Borderlands 3 Krieg DLC from what we can tell.
According to sources, DLC 4 may take place in Krieg's own broken psyche, somehow. The splash image Gearbox released (featured above) certainly seems to imply something of the kind. Thing is, DLC 4 is still pretty far out, slated to launch this fall, and we're unlikely to get more info before Bounty of Blood is out and about.
We hope this article helped settle some burning questions you had about Borderlands 3 DLC 3! We'll have more coverage on this exciting expansion pack as the launch date comes closer, so stay tuned!
