Our long-time readers may remember Cataclismo, an extremely promising horror LEGO survival strategy game we previewed a while ago, when it first launched in Steam Early Access. Well, we're thrilled to report that not only has Cataclismo's development proceeded basically without a hitch since, but the game's also fully out now!

That's right: Cataclismo 1.0 is now out and about, and with the production fully wrapped-up, it's time to go over what's changed, what's new, and why now is the time to start playing the game.

From all-new gameplay features to good old-fashioned content upgrades, the full release of Cataclismo presents us with the definitive, polished-up version of the game. Make no mistake, this is easily one of the best modern base-building titles, and you'd be remiss not to give it a shot.

Get Cataclismo 1.0 right here at 2Game and save 35% off the full price!

Though there's a fair bit of nuance in its gameplay, the crux of Cataclismo's survival loop is in the balanced combination of brick-by-brick base-building and wave defense. Hybridizing the classic base-building systems of real-time strategy games of yore with more modern creature defense gameplay, Cataclismo immediately showed it's got the heft necessary to exist in this niche. Even in Early Access, Cataclismo could easily keep you busy for hours on end, and that's only being driven home further still now that it's out in 1.0.

To summarize all the big new improvements, we now have the full Campaign Mode available. This new iteration of Cataclismo's sleek story has been upgraded with six all-new scenarios which, combined with pre-existing missions, make for about 20 total hours of campaign gameplay. A heck of a campaign, that is.

Arguably more important is the Survival Mode overhaul, however. Whereas Cataclismo had a bog-standard Endless Mode up until 1.0, that's now been revamped into a full-blooded roguelite system. Players basically choose randomized Boost Cards after each survived wave, which then grants them various boons and upgrades as they go. It's still proverbially endless, of course, but the roguelite twist adds additional zest to the mode by default.

We're not done yet, though. 1.0 Cataclismo also introduces the ominous Depths biome, which will provide the ultimate challenge to even tenured players as they progress through any of the game's three main modes of play. Depths are also available for customization via the Level Editor, should you choose to do so.

It gets better, though. The Depths aren't "just" a fancy new biome to fiddle around with. Thematically, they also bring up some important new gameplay twists. For example, players need to contend with the all-new Darkness Mechanics in select scenarios, which calls for strategic illumination of areas. Otherwise, the new Opaline Horror foes get to pour in: special, pearlescent monstrosities that take more punishment to bring down and will easily demolish even the strongest builds if allowed close.

Of particular note is the new Renegade variant of Iris herself, too. This customized version of the hero-protagonist comes with a different set of skills and Ecos that can massively change how you approach certain challenges.

All of the fancy new content additions aside, players can also expect a massive array of quality-of-life improvements, new accessibility settings, and bug-fixing. Oodles upon oodles of bug-fixing, at that. From stability improvements to visual bugs, expect Cataclismo to look and play better than ever before.

Much of what we've outlined above might not mean much to a total newcomer to Cataclismo, but the gist of what we're saying should make it clear that 1.0 build is a massive upgrade to the core experience. From content additions to core gameplay improvements, this is Cataclismo at its absolute best, and if you haven't yet had the chance to play it, now's the time.

Who is Cataclismo for, then? Purely at face value, we're looking at one of the finest base-building and defense games in the genre. The more creative you are with your defenses, the more fun will Cataclismo feel in practice, with its wildly varied maps and punishingly brutal hordes of mutated enemies.

Setting that aside, we were awestruck by the sleekness and polish on show in Cataclismo, too. This isn't one of those RTS titles where you play the story just to get through it. Instead, it's a poignant and engaging tale of a world beset by darkness, and its people's attempts at surviving the horrors that go bump in the night. If any of these elements interest you at all, Cataclismo is the right game for you.

With Elden Ring: Nightreign launching later this year, if you’ve yet to experience the wonders of The Lands Between, now is the perfect time.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest games of all time, Elden Ring is a must-play and, dare I say, a gaming rite of passage. Sure, you may lose a few weeks (or months) to its all-consuming gameplay, but isn’t that what RPG life is all about? Especially when it comes to Souls-like games! Plus, what better way to pass the time as you await the co-op Nightreign adventure?

Here’s the caveat: If you’re new to the game, grab your copy, but save this blog for later. This one’s for the veterans. Already conquered Elden Ring and earned those battle scars? Then it's time to spice things up with a fresh challenge run. From brutal restrictions to creative twists, here are some unforgettable ways to make your 2025 Elden Ring playthrough even more exciting (and punishing!)

Good luck—and remember to breathe!

Top 2025 Elden Ring Challenge Runs:

1. The Region-Locked Weapon Run

Fun but not impossibly difficult; you can’t move on to the next region until you’ve fully cleared the current one (whether that means just the main bosses or every single boss is up to you). But there’s a catch. You must swap to a completely different weapon type with each new region, forcing you to master a variety of weapons as you progress.

2. The One-Weapon-Only Run

To go to the other extreme, pick a weapon and commit to it—no switching allowed. Whether it’s a colossal greatsword, dual daggers, or a bow, this forces you to master every aspect of your chosen weapon. Want a twist? Let a friend choose your weapon for you!

3. The Magic-Only Run

And if you want to do away with weapons entirely, go for the magic-only run! I mean, why swing a sword when you can obliterate foes with arcane fire? A full mage build requires careful FP management and positioning to survive, and you'll get bonus points if you go for a niche spell set, such as only gravity magic, only dragon incantations, or only using Comet Azur like a walking turret.

4. The Pacifist Run (Sort Of)

What if you never directly attacked an enemy? This run relies solely on indirect damage—letting Spirit Ashes, status effects, and environmental hazards do the work for you. Bait enemies into falling off cliffs, use poison and rot to whittle them down, or unleash a mimic tear to fight in your stead. It’s a unique and often hilarious way to play the game.

5. The No Spirit Ashes/Summons Run

We all know that Spirit Ashes can make even the toughest boss fights more manageable, but what if you took them out of the equation entirely? No summons, no NPC help - just you, your weapon, and raw skill. Sound intense? It is! But it's also a rewarding way to test your mettle.

6. The Shield-Only Run

Who needs a sword when you have a shield? Transform your trusty shield from a defensive tool into your primary weapon as you smash, bash, and crash your way through enemies. (Well, that's the hope, anyway!) Whether it’s the spiked Palisade Shield causing Bleed, the fiery Visage Shield spewing flames, or the sheer brute force of a colossal greatshield, with the right Ashes of War, shields aren’t just for blocking - they're for obliterating!

7. The No-Leveling Run

Ready for a tough one? Stay at your starting level for the entire game. Yes, this means no extra health, stamina, or damage scaling. In other words, as your enemies get stronger, your build remains stagnant. You’ll be relying purely on skill, smart equipment choices, and a whole lot of perseverance for this one.

8. The No-Hit Run (For the Ultimate Masochist)

You thought that was hard? Only the truly dedicated attempt this one. Beat the entire game without taking a single hit. Not just without dying, without even getting touched. It’s a feat of patience, precision, and deep knowledge of enemy attack patterns that challenges the best of 'em. Basically, if you want the ultimate test of your reflexes and discipline, this is the run for you.

9. The “Fashion Souls” Run

On the other end of the scale, why care about min-maxing when you can strut through Elden Ring in the most stylish outfit possible? The goal here is simple: prioritize fashion over function. You must always wear the best-looking armor and weapons, no matter how impractical they are. This one is as silly and as challenging as you choose to make it.

10. The “Prepare for Nightreign” Co-Op Run

Since Elden Ring: Nightreign will feature a fully co-op adventure, why not get some practice in by playing through Elden Ring with a friend?

Set some ground rules. For example: No solo play unless at the Round Table; no skipping or warping ahead; no trading items (only use what you and your partner find together); and no healing flasks. You can also limit weapons or stick to a theme (twin samurai, medieval knights, etc).

Just keep in mind that co-op play ends after major boss fights, so you'll need to re-summon each other to continue your adventure. (You may also want a good co-op mod here to make your gameplay more seamless.) See how far your teamwork can take you!

Level Up Your Elden Ring Playthrough and Tackle New Challenges!

Whether you’re a newcomer to Elden Ring or a seasoned veteran, the upcoming launch of Elden Ring: Nightreign makes this the perfect time to step (or step back) into the Lands Between.

For veterans looking to spice up their next playthrough, there’s no shortage of ways to raise the difficulty. From restricting your weapon choices to conquering the game without taking a hit, each fresh challenge run offers a chance to make your adventure unforgettable (if, at times, extremely punishing!)

So, choose your challenge, sharpen your skills, and get ready for your next epic journey. One thing's for sure—Elden Ring always has plenty of surprises waiting for you!

Up for the challenge?

OK, I'm a binger. There's nothing I love more than to binge-watch an entire series, binge-play my way through a favorite franchise, or, dare I say it, binge-eat an entire tub of salted caramel ice cream! There’s something so indulgent about diving headfirst into something you love, and seeing it through to the very end - no matter how long it takes.

That’s the beauty of a gaming marathon. You fully immerse yourself in an alternative universe, revisiting iconic moments and experiencing the series' evolution firsthand. The only stipulation is that the series must be worth your time. And when it comes to binge-worthy sagas, few can match the scale and intensity of Dragon Ball.

Whether you're a lifelong fan or a newcomer to the franchise, Dragon Ball is the perfect candidate for an immensely satisfying gaming marathon. Relive legendary fights, create your own warrior, or face off in intense duels — the Dragon Ball series delivers a diverse lineup of games that let you experience the anime’s action, adventure, and battles firsthand.

The only question is: Where to start? And that's where we come in. Here's the ultimate Dragon Ball gaming marathon, with the best order to play the games in, to get the most out of your experience!

Order to Play Your Dragon Ball Gaming Marathon:

1. Start with DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT

If you want the full Dragon Ball Z experience, there's no better place to start than Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. This action RPG takes you through the entire DBZ saga, from Goku’s first battle with Raditz to the final clash against Majin Buu.

Experience iconic moments, explore open-world areas, and go off on tangents in lore-inspired side quests. This story-driven experience with open-world elements builds a solid foundation for your journey. It's the perfect game to connect with the Dragon Ball characters and start your marathon!

2. Rewrite Dragon Ball History with Xenoverse

After reliving Goku’s journey, it’s time to create your own warrior in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Xenoverse offers an original Dragon Ball story that goes beyond the anime, as you take on the role of a Time Patroller fighting to fix distortions in the Dragon Ball timeline.

The RPG series lets you craft your ideal warrior, customizing your abilities as you progress through training and online battles alongside—and against—classic DBZ characters. While Xenoverse 2 is the definitive version with expanded content and improvements, playing the first installment helps you better understand the story setup.

3. Test Your Skills in the Ultimate Fighting Experience with Dragon Ball FighterZ

Now that you’ve mastered story-driven and RPG-style DB games, it’s time to put your combat skills to the test in Dragon Ball FighterZ. This fast-paced, 2.5D fighting game is one of the best in the genre, offering gorgeous anime visuals, tight mechanics, and an intense competitive scene.

After playing Xenoverse, you'll already be familiar with many of the characters and their moves, making your transition into FighterZ's tight combat mechanics seamless. Unlike Xenoverse, however, FighterZ is all about pure skill.

Truly, the high-speed action, epic moves, and a roster full of fan-favorite characters will have you glued to the screen with this one. And if you really want to test your skills, why not try online ranked matches after completing the story mode?

4. Relive Classic Battles with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

After mastering time travel in Xenoverse and perfecting your skills in FighterZ, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero brings you the most recent entry in the series, offering an exciting blend of modern combat with a heavy dose of nostalgia.

We're talking intense, large-scale battles with a roster that spans the iconic Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT arcs. Expect high-energy fights, flashy special moves, and witnessing beloved characters clash in dynamic 3D arenas.

Whether you’re revisiting classic showdowns or experiencing new ones, Sparking! Zero is a perfect way to inject some modern-day nostalgia into your marathon. With an accessible control scheme and exhilarating combat, it’s a great bridge between the strategic RPG elements of Xenoverse and the fast-paced, technical action of FighterZ.

5. Survive The Chaos with The Breakers

You’ve fought as Goku, created your own Time Patroller, and even battled competitively in FighterZ, but what if you were just an ordinary person in the Dragon Ball universe? That’s where Dragon Ball: The Breakers comes in. This asymmetrical multiplayer game pits a team of Survivors against an overpowered Raider like Cell, Frieza, or Majin Buu and tests your survival skills.

Bringing something completely different to the table, playing as a Survivor adds tension and strategy to your DB gameplay, as you work with teammates to escape or outsmart the Raider. Alternatively, you can switch things up by playing as iconic DB villains, taking on the dark side as you hunt down survivors. With regular updates, including new Raiders, there’s always something fresh to experience in this exhilarating cat-and-mouse game.

Your Ultimate Dragon Ball Gaming Marathon Awaits!

Immersing yourself in the world of DBZ is always a good thing. From reliving iconic moments in Kakarot and creating your own unique fighter in Xenoverse, to testing your skills in the fast-paced battles of FighterZ, showing off your special moves in Sparking! Zero and surviving the chaos in The Breakers, this Dragon Ball marathon has something for every type of fan.

So, whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned DBZ veteran, now’s the time to let the Dragon Ball saga unfold as you get ready for hours of legendary action, unforgettable battles, and new challenges. What are you waiting for? Your marathon awaits!

It’s time to start your Dragon Ball marathon!

Having just recently gone over South of Midnight in general, discussing its (folk)lore and the central narrative crux, now's the time to shift gears and get back to the real star of the show: gameplay. On that front, it's not hard to figure out the very basics: South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game. Beyond that, though, the specifics get hazy.

What we mean by this is that there's a massive gulf between a game such as a Devil May Cry and, say, God of War when you really look closely at them. South of Midnight broadly fits into this very same category, but it's also wildly different from most anything we've seen so far. Curiously, the footage we've seen so far looks like - believe it or not - something along the lines of Psychonauts 2 more so than anything else.

What does this mean in a practical sense, though? Well, we'll tell you. Down below, after you watch a short Xbox gameplay demo.

Pre-order South of Midnight right here at 2Game!

South of Midnight Gameplay Overview

Whereas many modern action-adventure games place extremely heavy emphasis on combat, this wasn't always the case. The long-gone era of three-dimensional mascot games, like Jak & Daxter, Spyro, or Ratchet & Clank focused much more so on platforming and level manipulation than anything else, and we're thrilled to report that South of Midnight is essentially a modern take on this same concept.

Though we've compared South of Midnight to God of War to set a mainstream example, the fact of the matter is that this game de-emphasizes combat to the level that the player desires. There are bespoke difficulty modifiers for, just to name a few, enemy health and damage outputs, and we'll be free to modify them however we see fit.

The absolute focus of the experience is twofold: the vibes and the atmosphere of South of Midnight's delightful classic Americana, and the main story. Everything else is a byproduct of how the two aforementioned aspects of the game interrelate with one another.

We genuinely think this works in South of Midnight's favor based purely on its setting. A magic-infused version of Louisiana is something we've basically never had the chance to explore in a video game, and this specific sub-division of classic American folklore doesn't get brought up nearly as often as it should. Putting all the bets on combat would've been a huge disappointment for South of Midnight in our book, so we're thrilled with this development.

And on that note, the modern gaming industry desperately needs more games like Psychonauts 2 and Astro Bot. We didn't expect for South of Midnight to entertain this same niche, but the fact that this is on the menu at all is a very promising showcase of things to come.

With South of Midnight, you're getting an exciting and unique modern fable action game that will take you about 12-15 hours to beat. If that's precisely what you're looking for amidst all these huge, dozens-of-hours-long ARPGs and forever-lasting sandbox games, stay tuned.

Launching on May 15th, 2025 (two days earlier with the Premium Edition!) DOOM: The Dark Ages redefines the series with a brutal medieval twist, combining demon-slaying action with breathtaking new environments and a fresh arsenal of weapons.

With dynamic ray-traced lighting, hyper-realistic shadows, and massive, expansive environments, this much-anticipated prequel pushes the limits of what’s possible. But what does it mean for your system? Here’s everything you need to know about the official system requirements to make sure your PC is up for the carnage.

idTech 8: A New Generation of DOOM Performance

Built on the same powerful idTech 8 engine as Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, DOOM: The Dark Ages promises to push the boundaries of gaming visuals and performance.

Just as Indy’s daring adventures showcased hyper-realistic environments and fluid action, DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to bring that same level of detail and immersion to DOOM. Whether you're soaring through the skies on a dragon or tearing through enemies with the Atlan mech, you can expect next-level fluidity of combat and traversal.

However, as with The Great Circle, achieving these heights of next-gen graphics may push your hardware to its limits. Let's take a look at what's needed.

DOOM: The Dark Ages PC System Requirements

DOOM: The Dark Ages' stunning visuals and complex lighting effects are set to be a sight to behold, but they rely heavily on modern hardware. Here are the official minimum and recommended system requirements:

Minimum Requirements (1080p / 60 FPS / Low Settings)

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit / Windows 11 64-Bit
Processor: AMD Zen 2 or Intel 10th Generation CPU @3.2Ghz with 8 cores / 16 threads or better (examples: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or better, or Intel Core i7 10700K or better)
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA or AMD hardware Raytracing-capable GPU with 8GB dedicated VRAM or better (examples: NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER or better, AMD RX 6600 or better)
Storage: 100 GB available space
Additional Notes: 1080p / 60 FPS / Low Quality Settings, NVME SSD storage required

These minimum requirements will allow for 60 FPS at 1080p, but graphical effects will be scaled back significantly. The key takeaway here is that a ray tracing-capable GPU is essential at all settings, meaning older cards like the GTX 10-series won’t make the cut. Time for an upgrade?

Recommended Requirements (1440p / 60 FPS / High Settings)

While the minimum specs are enough to run the game, to experience DOOM: The Dark Ages at its best, your system should meet or exceed the following recommended requirements:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit / Windows 11 64-Bit
Processor: AMD Zen 3 or Intel 12th Generation CPU @3.2Ghz with 8 cores / 16 threads or better (examples: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or better, or Intel Core i7 12700K or better)
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA or AMD hardware Raytracing-capable GPU with 10GB dedicated VRAM or better (examples: NVIDIA RTX 3080 or better, AMD RX 6800 or better)
Storage: 100 GB available space
Additional Notes: 1440p / 60 FPS / High Quality Settings, NVME SSD storage required

So, if you are looking to upgrade, a modern RTX 30/40-series card will provide a smooth performance and stunning visuals at 1440p with high settings.

Optimizing Performance: Best Settings for High FPS and Visuals

Without wishing to be repetitive, DOOM: The Dark Ages promises some of the most visually advanced graphics seen in an FPS. However, as we've seen, with great power comes great hardware demands. With that in mind, here are some tips for optimizing performance without sacrificing too much on visuals:

Enable NVIDIA DLSS 4: DOOM: The Dark Ages supports DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction, allowing RTX users to enjoy higher frame rates without sacrificing image quality. (If AMD FSR is included at launch, it will provide a similar performance boost for non-NVIDIA GPUs)

Adjust Path Tracing Settings: The game features full Path Tracing, significantly enhancing lighting realism, but if performance is an issue, tweaking ray-traced reflections and global illumination can help balance visuals and FPS.

Set Texture Quality to High: If your GPU has 10GB+ VRAM, running textures at High or Ultra settings will ensure maximum visual fidelity.

Use an NVMe SSD: This is required for fast loading times and seamless world streaming.

Whether you aim for ultra settings or need to fine-tune for higher FPS, these adjustments should help you rip and tear through the game with minimal compromises.

Is Your PC Ready for DOOM: The Dark Ages?

With DOOM: The Dark Ages launching on May 15, 2025, idTech 8 promises a visually stunning and smooth experience. However, the game’s cutting-edge technology demands powerful hardware, especially with ray tracing enabled at all levels. Basically, if your system meets or exceeds the specs, you're in for a treat. If not, this could be your perfect excuse for an upgrade!

Though there was some suspicion and concern over 2016's revival of Doom, the developer id Software has since proven that it's got the chutzpah to keep the franchise going. Twice over, in fact, considering the fact that Doom Eternal straight-up reinvented the wheel when it came out in 2020.

Now, a full five years after Doom Eternal's rapid-fire triumph over the hordes of Hell, we're looking at a full-fledged sequel and a narrative prequel to its story: The Dark Ages. While the story of Doom (and DOOM, as it were) is interesting enough in its own right, in a particularly cheesy kind of way, it should go without saying that gameplay is king in this franchise, and that is bound to remain the case in The Dark Ages.

The discussion about value and whatnot is obviously a big concern, yes, but we've already discussed that in a previous article. Today, we're purely interested in comparing and contrasting Doom: The Dark Ages with Doom Eternal's respective gameplay loops, and that's precisely what we'll do below.

Pre-order Doom: The Dark Ages right here at 2Game!

How is Doom: The Dark ages different from Doom Eternal?

"At the start of every development cycle, I play the original Doom again, and have the team play it too," said id Software's game director Hugo Martin in an interview with GamesRadar. "I realized that we still didn't hit the mark. For long-time fans of the series, people who played the original Doom, you'll see it's really a return to form," he claims.

The entire development curve of the modern Doom franchise begins to make perfect sense as this particular statement crystalizes into being: id Software is trying to bring back the glory and unprecedented violence that the original 1993 DOOM game first brought up. The 2016 Doom title was thus a more reasonable first-person shooter, while Doom Eternal ditched any silly pretense of "realism" or "groundedness" and turned the Doom Slayer into a veritable fighter jet.

These two games are wildly different from one another in practice, though they absolutely belong to the same series, story-wise. With that in mind, it only makes sense that Doom: The Dark Ages would attempt an entirely different approach yet once more, this time pivoting into the third direction.

"If you were an F22 fighter jet in Doom Eternal, this time around we wanted you to feel like an Abrams tank," explained Martin in his interview. "It means you're more powerful and grounded. The combat system for new players – those who only got into Doom with the reboot – I think with The Dark Ages they are going to feel like this is a reimagined combat system. But for long-time fans of the series, people who played the original Doom, you'll see it's really a return to form."

There's an interesting statement if we've ever heard one: could it be that Doom: The Dark Ages might actually be on to something? Doom has honestly never been much of a medieval-themed game, leaving Gothic aesthetics back for Quake to fall upon, but we do genuinely think id Software is on to something here.

"You're heavier, more powerful, and grounded," Martin adds. "We're making strafing-to-aim a thing again. You'll be weaving between projectiles, just like you did in the original Doom, to deliver that Super Shotgun blast to the chest… It almost creates this three-dimensional 'shoot 'em up' puzzle that you're weaving your way through."

And there it is. Now it all makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

Doom Eternal fans may find Doom: The Dark Ages a wildly different experience in the end

Crucially, Hugo Martin himself admits that there simply wasn't a way for id Software to add even more verticality to the game than Doom Eternal already offered. Doom Slayer wasn't going to become even more acrobatic, because he already was the absolute pinnacle of an FPS protagonist. Instead, and quite funnily so, the way forward was to ground things down in every meaningful way.

The Dark Ages is slower, more meticulous, and also literally more grounded as in horizontal. Players will face larger hordes of enemies than ever before, prowling about on larger maps than we've ever had in a Doom game. The goal will now be to bob-and-weave between projectiles to deliver the killing blow. And frankly, that does sound exactly like the original DOOM gameplay loop, now that we think of it.

None of that is to say that The Dark Ages is somehow devolving back into simplicity, keep in mind. If you need an obvious example of this not being the case, well, there's the controllable demon-slaying mech and the massive super-charged rideable dragon. If novelty's what you're concerned about, The Dark Ages won't be an issue.

Heck, even on a more grounded core gameplay-loop level, remember that The Dark Ages is introducing a host of melee weapons, a chainsaw shield, and goodness knows what else on top of the battle-tested fan-favorites. It's not like we'll be wanting for variety here.

"You will have that [chainsaw shield] in your hand at all times – you're basically dual-wielding. I want players to feel like Aragorn, or Leonidas at the hot gates of 300. You're the hero of a massive battle in an FPS, in a Doom game no less," Martin says. "There's a lot of stuff you can do with the shield. You can block attacks, you can parry projectiles, there are melee weapons you can combo attacks with – you use it to solve problems. You basically exploit weaknesses with the shield in your left hand, and then you hurt things with the guns in your right. It's pretty simple."

Make note of the parrying system, specifically: if you feel you might miss Doom Eternal's rock-paper-scissors-nuclearcannon combat system, fret not because id Software is still keeping fans of Eternal's specific quirks in mind. At the same time, there's no denying the fact that The Dark Ages will be a meaningfully different, bespoke FPS experience that stands on its own two feet.

Doom: The Dark Ages is due to launch on PC on May 15, 2025. Over the coming weeks, we'll have lots more coverage discussing it coming your way, so stay tuned and strap right in. It's going to be a hell of a ride.

DOOM is back. Here’s the Premium way to experience the carnage.

Considering the prominence of American culture across the globe, it may strike as a bit of a surprise just how de-emphasized the Southern aspects of it have been over the years. Specifically, the American Deep South is about as underplayed in modern media as Maine is overplayed, though this is largely due to the incredible influence of Stephen King on... well, everything, really.

It came as a welcome surprise, then, when we learned about South of Midnight: Compulsion Games' fancy new take on Southern folklore and mythology. Described as a modern Southern Gothic fairytale, South of Midnight gives players control over Hazel, an up-and-coming Weaver who finds herself in a bit of a mythological bind. If you're unaware of South of Midnight or just need a primer on what kind of game it is and why it's important, this is the place to be.

What kind of game is South of Midnight?

Gameplay first, then: South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure in lieu of God of War or Devil May Cry. Crucially, though Hazel does need to become a potent combatant over the course of the story, combat is just one of three key pillars of the game, the other two being exploration and puzzle-solving.

In that respect, South of Midnight isn't looking to reinvent the wheel, and that's all for the better in our book. We simply don't get enough character-driven action games nowadays, and any newcomer to the niche is more than welcome.

Broadly, South of Midnight's story kicks off after a massive hurricane virtually destroys the town of Prospero, Hazel's home included. Soon thereafter, Hazel discovers her Weaver powers and gets sucked into a semi-fictional-but-deathly-real-enough Southern Gothic version of the world, where classic folktales come alive with violent intent.

Obviously then, South of Midnight is a coming-of-age story which is, at face value, not a particularly novel concept in the video game industry. If the gameplay is a known quantity, then, and the crux of the narrative is something we've played time and again, what is it that elevates South of Midnight beyond mediocrity?

On that front, gosh, just look at it.

How does Southern folklore play into the gameplay of South of Midnight?

South of Midnight's strengths lie in its astonishingly good visual presentation and its (folk)lore. Americana of the highest order, the magical legends of the Deep South are not something we get to experience all that often, not even beyond the niche of video gaming. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to delve headfirst into the topic and really get a sense of what's what and how the old stories might mesh with a modern, contemporary narrative.

Best of all, South of Midnight's rendition of South American folklore is presented using a storybook-inspired stop-motion animation. We get a striking mix of stocky, stop-motion puppets with smooth, picture-perfect combat gameplay when the action kicks off. The result is a downright astonishing visual presentation that doesn't let up whether you're exploring the marshes of the South or Weaving your way through a fight with a giant bark-encrusted alligator.

A particularly important aspect of South of Midnight is that each and every one of the game's main antagonists (i.e. boss encounters) has a tragic backstory. In practice, this means Hazel isn't actually out to slaughter anyone, but needs to figure out a way to make sense of the creatures' problems and find a way to fix them. That is, in fact, precisely what a Weaver is: a spellcaster specializing in the mending of broken bonds and spirits.

Of course, Hazel gets to do that by being an awesome combatant, but a game needs to be fun for it to truly make waves, does it not?

The gist of it all, then, is that we'll get to explore the Deep South setting in a way we never could before, both from the graphics and the narrative points of view. And those features, specifically, are precisely what Compulsion Games is focusing on the most.

South of Midnight's take on classic Americana is the most interesting bit here

Gameplay and graphics are good and all, but classic Southern Americana is what got us most intrigued in South of Midnight. Through the use of unique, guided narration and a soundtrack that takes its cues specifically from the American South, the vibe is practically set in stone.

True enough, South of Midnight is going to be a tour de force through something many of us are ostensibly aware of, but the specifics of it simply haven't been explored in modern mainstream media. South of Midnight has a chance to truly stand out from most anything else on the market, then, and since it's due to release very soon, on April 8, we won't have to wait long before we get to see for ourselves what's up with it.

If you can't wait that long, consider checking out the special Premium Edition of South of Midnight. Priced at $59,99 (which is under the modern AAA pricing default of $69,99), this version of the game grants you up to five days' worth of advanced access, starting on April 3, as well as a whole assortment of bonus goodies. We'll have more to say about South of Midnight over the coming days and weeks, so make sure that you stay tuned to our Community Hub and our various social media, where we host a bunch of giveaways and more.

The reviews for the newly released Two Point Museum are glowing. Of course, they are. After the success of the previous Two Point titles, we never expected anything else!

Indeed, whether you’re saving lives in Two Point Hospital, shaping young minds in Two Point Campus, or curating the ultimate exhibit in Two Point Museum, when it comes to delivering quirky, charming, and addictively fun management sims, Two Point Studios is the business.

If you're new to the series, however, and wondering where to start, here’s a guide covering each title's core gameplay, challenges, and appeal.

Two Point Hospital: The Ultimate Healthcare Challenge

If you love a fast-paced, problem-solving experience, Two Point Hospital ticks all the right boxes. As the mastermind behind a chain of hospitals, you’ll face challenges that go far beyond simply treating patients.

Emergencies, epidemics, financial pressures, and demanding VIP visits mean there’s never a dull moment, and juggling multiple priorities - whether it’s fixing a broken toilet during a crisis or handling a ghost infestation - will keep you on your toes. With all this chaos, just be sure your staff doesn't burn out - you need them!

Oh, and watch out for patients with conditions like Mock Star (where they think they’re rock legends), Animal Magnetism (where they’re covered in small, clingy creatures), and Lightheadedness (where they have literal lightbulbs for heads). Not to mention potential alien invasions and janitors with vacuum-equipped ghost-hunting gear!

Two Point Campus: Shape the Future

Prefer a more creative, long-term approach to management? Two Point Campus lets you build and run your own university, complete with courses like Knight School (where students train to be medieval warriors), Gastronomy (where they cook up giant pizzas and massive burgers), and Wizardry (where they learn the mystical arts - and sometimes accidentally turn themselves into frogs!)

Unlike the high-pressure environment of Two Point Hospital, here you invest in educating the future generation. Instead of curing crazy ailments, your focus is on student happiness, campus aesthetics, and crafting the ultimate place for learning (and partying).

Students stay for multiple years, meaning progress is gradual, and careful planning pays off as you design dorms, libraries, and clubs, striking a balance between education and entertainment. After all, it's down to you to ensure your students have both the knowledge and life skills they need to succeed.

If you love customization, world-building, and a more relaxed challenge, Two Point Campus will be right up your street.

Two Point Museum: Curate the Ultimate Exhibit

The latest addition, Two Point Museum, takes the classic formula in a delightfully wacky direction. Instead of fixing up patients or running a college, you’re tasked with managing a museum filled with oddball artifacts and more surprises than you can shake a Mummy’s Gummy at.

Your mission? To attract visitors and make sure your museum is the most talked-about in town. All while making sure the cash rolls in. Showcase quirky exhibits like the world’s first flying toaster or a Cursed Tomato—definitely not for the faint-hearted! And outsmart rival museums by bidding for rare treasures that’ll leave your guests in awe.

If you love mixing creativity with strategy and balancing the bizarre with the educational, Two Point Museum offers a wildly fun challenge that’ll have you laughing while you manage!

Which Two Point Adventure Will You Start With?

So, where do you start? Each Two Point game brings something different to the table, so the answer boils down to what kind of management challenge excites you most.

If you prefer a more relaxed, creative experience where you can watch your long-term plans unfold, Two Point Campus offers a rewarding mix of strategy and design. And if you’re eager for something fresh, Two Point Museum delivers an exciting blend of curation, exploration, and visitor management.

Whether you’re diagnosing strange diseases, shaping young minds, or crafting the ultimate museum experience, Two Point Studios has something delightfully weird and wonderful for you.
