Pacific Drive is a survival game unlike 95% of other survival games. That is because, it is all about your vehicle. In comparison, your in-game human avatar is extremely understated and falls by the wayside in most ways. That being said, you do still need handheld tools, upgrades, and improvements to be able to actually keep your car running. With that in mind, it's to be expected that the game allows you to improve your human avatar in a variety of manners, and one of the most obvious and necessary of them is - a flashlight.
Early on, you'll only really have two kinda-sorta reliable sources of light in Pacific Drive: your jalopy's headlights, and the assortment of road flares you'll come across in your travels. If you're anything like us, you'll quickly find yourself wishing your avatar was smart enough to carry a pocket flashlight around before the Olympic Exclusion Zone stole them away. Thankfully, you do have the ability to jury-rig a makeshift flashlight from scraps, bits, and bobs. You just gotta visit the Fabrication Station in your Garage!

The Fabrication Station is your friend when it comes to every single handheld tool in Pacific Drive, and this includes the handheld flashlight(s). Indeed, there's a variety of different flashlights you could unlock, and the easiest to get of them all is just a flare cobbled together into something that spews out directional light. It's way better than nothing, though, and you can find it by going to the 'Lights' tab of the Fabricator UI. It's right above the car headlight unlock tree, so you may miss it by default.
It should be way easier to explore the Zone's many dishevelled and abandoned structures with a source of light in tow, but do remember that the Fabrication Station also allows you to build a whole crafting station dedicated specifically to improving your human avatar! Find it in the first main tab of the Fabricator, and it'll allow you to improve your backpack's carrying capacity, add some lead lining to your clothes to defend against radiation, jump from higher-up, and do a variety of other things. We heartily recommend investing in your Pacific Drive avatar as soon as possible, as it'll make car improvements that much easier, to boot.
