We've known for a while now that Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 isn't interested in featuring playable races other than the Imperial Astartes. It was to be expected, really, that a game titled 'Space Marine' would focus specifically on this one titular faction, right?
Here's the kicker, though: the game isn't going to skimp out on customization. Not only will we be able to choose our Primaris Astartes' class, but there will be several different Chapters available, too! And even detailed, granular customization by the likes of the old Dawn of War games, so if you end up not liking the available Chapters, you can gosh darn make your own. Nice!

Here's a list of all 8 of the official day-one Astartes Chapters in Space Marine 2:
Now, the thing to note is that some of these will be locked behind game progression and/or DLC purchases. Not to fret, though! Space Marine 2 allows you to create your own custom Astartes Chapter to use in post-campaign content, from the materials of each and every part of your Marine's armor all the way to the color hues and Imperial thingamabobs. Nice!
With this in mind, we expect that it'll be hard to argue against Space Marine 2 monetization. After all, if you don't want to support devs with DLC purchases, you can just bootleg your own custom "Raven Guard" chapter, right? With the sheer amount of customization on show in this game, we expect oodles of replayability and a loyal fanbase for years to come. Exciting stuff.

In a truly incredible turn of events, we ended up learning that Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 actually has way, way more Astartes factions and sub-factions than you'd expect at a glance. For the most part, pre-release materials were focusing on the big names outlined above, but the really interesting bits are found in the Customization Menu's Astartes Heraldry sub-interface.
The Heraldry UI is basically your cosmetics unlocking menu, where you get to pick and choose which Astartes chapter's cosmetics to unlock, and what items you might wish to pick up for use in custom armor sets.
Here, we've got four different Astartes Chapter tabs - one of them dedicated to Chaos Chapters specifically. There's an absolutely immense selection of items to chase and retrofit into your custom Marines! Here's the full list of Astartes Chapters represented in the game on day one:
A hell of a list, right? Now, the really interesting bit is that we think this list is going to get massively expanded upon as time goes on via cosmetic season passes. We know, for example, that Season 1 is going to be all about Dark Angels, and the Ultramarine Chapter tab has us thinking the Dark Angels will receive similar treatment as part of their seasonal release.
So, stay tuned! We'll keep this article topped-up with all the new Astartes Chapters the game gets!

On top of all of the goodies featured above, it's worth remembering that Saber Interactive has also kept up with a steady supply of bonus Cosmetic Packs for Season Pass owners. As of mid-April 25, we've received all of the following items:
We know for a fact that we're also due to receive one more Chapter Pack upgrade in Spring 25, with a potential second Season Pass for later down the line. More on that as it develops, though.
The key thing to keep in mind about all of these Packs is that they add unique, bespoke cosmetic items to specific Astartes Chapters as well as a host of Successor Chapter items. For example, the Dark Angels Chapter Pack thus includes over 40 unique cosmetic items from Angels of Absolution, Redemption, Vengeance, and so on, allowing fans of this particular Chapter to massively increase their item roster as they play Operations Mode. To say nothing of all the different Champion skins, weapon skins, and other assorted goodies.

Each of these Successor Chapters has their own Heraldries to push through, which means dozens upon dozens of unlockable goodies to chase after. With more and more Operations and other assorted missions being added to the mix, there's absolutely no shortage of stuff to do in Space Marine 2, so what are you waiting for?
More unlockables than you could shake a bolter at.
