The Best Games to Play If You Liked Cat Quest 3!

We had a lot of fun spending our time in the Purribean over the past couple of weeks, but even Cat Quest 3 only has so much content to offer. If you, too, are basically done with the game but want to keep playing something fairly similar to it, you've come to just the right place. Down below, we've got a handful of awesome games to play if you liked Cat Quest 3!

Now, obviously, both of the prequels to Cat Quest 3 should be on your must-play shortlist as well, if you haven't played them yet:

Cat Quest 3 is our favorite of the bunch and it is - for sure - the best game in the series so far. Yet, both Cat Quest and Cat Quest 2 are awesome in their own respect, and they come highly recommended if you want an experience as close to the game in question as humanly possible. Cat Quest 2, in fact, does some things better than its successor, but that's a story for a different article.

For now, let's get to Cat Quest 3-themed game recommendations, so strap on in and prepare for some unexpected goodness.

Play These Games if you Liked Cat Quest 3

First things first, we need to explain why we've chosen the games we've chosen for this featurette. Cat Quest seems like a simple and straightforward hack 'n' slash but, in truth, you'd be hard-pressed to find a game series that goes toe-to-toe with it in every possible way.

Mechanics-wise? Probably something like Diablo, believe it or not. In regard to itemization, I'd say Elden Ring is the closest thing you can get! Graphics and vibes? Cutesy survival games might be your forte, instead. When you put all of this together, you end up with what might seem like an almost entirely insurmountable task, especially if you're unfamiliar with niche game releases and the indie scene.

Thankfully, that's precisely what we've focused on for our reocmmendations. Down below, we've hand-picked four absolutely awesome games that riff on the same vibes, topics, and gameplay formulas as Cat Quest 3, but without being something wholly different in the end.

Best for the Vibe: Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

Our first area of focus was the general vibe, cuteness, and coziness of Cat Quest 3. Curiously, a huge number of "cozy" games bill themselves as Early Access survival titles, so we obviously weren't going to go with any of those this time around.

Instead, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley manages to deliver the same sense of adventure and mystery as you often get from Cat Quest. The phenomenal watercolor artstyle lends itself perfectly to the overarching Moomin-themed narrative, and the gameplay is as fast or slow as you want it to be.

There's no real combat here, of course, but in playing Snufkin we found ourselves embroiled in its beautiful world in much the same way as we were while exploring the Purribean, and the whole thing is just a joy to experience in motion. This one comes highly recommended if the vibes and the puzzles, specifically, were the best part of Cat Quest 3 for you.

Best for Gameplay: Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb is, in more ways than one, the polar opposite of Cat Quest. A brutal roguelite in a cutesy, cartooney aesthetic, Cult of the Lamb plays into the classic tropes of Lovecraftain horror in a surprisingly compelling way, and the thing about Cat Quest 3 is that it, too, attempts to do something similar.

In practice, Cult of the Lamb plays remarkably similarly to what you get out of Cat Quest 3's combat. There's less of an emphasis on itemization and more on rogue-type run-to-run progression (with some cult management thrown in, for good measure), yes, but the two games are really close in moment-to-moment gameplay. To say nothing of the grander eldritch narratives!

So, if it's combat you enjoyed the most in Cat Quest 3, we cannot recommend Cult of the Lamb enough.

Best for Overall Experience: Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos

Of all the games featured in this article, Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos is the least similar to Cat Quest 3 at a glance. Playing it, though, you quickly notice there's something devilishly satisfying and chunky about it. Especially since it comes with integrated hotseat multiplayer, to boot!

We enjoyed Cat Quest 3's local co-op in particular, and found ourselves yearning for something similar albeit more obviously replayable. Sure, Cult of the Lamb has hotseat as of recently too, but Ruins of Tasos came up as an especially delightful surprise as well.

This is a hack 'n' slash roguelite where up to four players join forces to tackle procedural generated dungeons in an effort to claim more and more powerful loot and take down increasingly brutal bosses. With this, Rogue Heroes taps into Cat Quest 3's combat, hotseat, and dungeoneering niches to some extent, making it an excellent choice if you enjoyed these aspects of the game.

Best for Progression: Dungeons of Hinterberg

Few other games capture the feel of slowly unraveling the mysteries of an entire region quite so competently as Cat Quest 3 does. The recently released Dungeons of Hinterberg, though, manages to do the same thing. In fact, we'd be hard-pressed to claim it's not even better than Cat Quest 3 in this respect! Because as cool as the Purribean might be, the fantasy version of the Austrian Alps is in a league all of its own.

For those who were particularly keen on Cat Quest 3's delightfully free-form, player-driven progression against the backdrop of a uniquely beautiful fantasy world, few games deliver on this promise better than Hinterberg. A unique premise with a snappy exploration and combat loop plastered on top, this game is a must-play across the board, but its unexpected similarity to Cat Quest 3 made it all the more exciting for us here at 2Game.
