Black Myth: Wukong – Best Chapter 1 Build

Black Myth: Wukong isn't all that interested in inundating you with weapon, armor, and thingamajig options early on. In fact, it's not until the second half of the game's big Chapter 2 that you actually manage to properly fill out all of your gear slots, and this is both good and bad if we're being honest.

Good, because Wukong slowly immerses you into its combat system, allowing you to learn all of its ins and outs before throwing even more complexity into the mix. Bad, because you don't really have any proper buildcrafting options until a fair few hours into the game.

With that in mind, Chapter 1 is a real test of your mettle, and if you need all the help you can get, this article is for you. On top of our prior shortlist guides, of course!

Black Myth: Wukong - Chapter 1 Recommended Weapons, Armor, and Skills

So, you need a list of the very best reasonably attainable gear in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong? We're happy to share the build that worked in our case, of course! The thing to keep in mind, though, is that this isn't necessarily the fully min-maxed set of options for you, too.

Our tactics for this game is to progress using a minimum viable build that doesn't hyper-specialize into one particular area or ability. Mixing things up is fun, after all, and if we could finish Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong with this build quite easily, then so can you. Here's the build we used for the Destined One in Chapter 1:

A few things to note here, of course. For the majority of Chapter 1, you're not going to have access to new weapons at all, and you'll be very hard-pressed to get new armor sets and Curios. To that end, you're obviously going to have to stick with the Willow Wood Staff and, for example, the Cat's Eye Beads Curio.

For your build, make sure that you're investing all the Sparks you get into your Immobilize spell and your Foundation Skills. That's because putting points into situational boons while your baseline is weak is a bad, bad idea in this game. Just work on your core, instead, and set up a solid resource pool of Health, Stamina, and Mana to pull upon in combat.

Now, the bits where you do have options are also fairly limited, but we highly recommend crafting a set of Serpentscale armor as soon as you've taken down the Snakeskin Noble boss. This massively increases your survivability in water and generally ups your defence to a reasonable level. Though, obviously, you'll have to make do with the Pilgrim set until the Noble is dead.

Aside from that, Chapter 1 is made a lot easier if you can kill the Wandering Wight. It's a challenging fight, to be sure, but doing so unlocks the yaoguai as an Attack Spirit, which in turn allows you to quickly and easily stun anything the hit lands on. So, useful! Oh, and the Wight also drops those Cat's Eye Beads, which increases your crit chance baseline.
