So, you’ve finally dealt with the final boss of Black Myth: Wukong‘s Chapter 1 and moved on to greener pastures… off into the desert. Chapter 2 of this game is a huge change of pace compared to its linear and straightforward Black Wind Mountain region. Here, instead, you’ve got a few dozen large arena sequences interspersed with combat tunnels and a whole host of powerful new bosses to take down. And, really, it only gets tougher from this point onwards.
Now, your optimized Chapter 1 build is actually going to stay relevant longer than you think in Chapter 2, but you need to continuously keep upgrading it and improving upon it for this to work. In the early game of Chapter 2, it's essential to craft new gear and make more upgrades a priority to deal more damage and keep up with the increasing difficulty. To that end, down below we’ve assembled a list of must-have items for you to rely upon in this portion of Wukong‘s content. The Destined One won’t upgrade himself, after all!

The specific build we’re finding the most success with so far is, by far, the one that focuses on punishing stagger-strikes and heavy doling of Immobilization over anything else. Seriously, we cannot overstate just how important stagger (i.e. Focus points) is in this game, whether you’re dealing with bosses or fluff yaoguai. And so, of course, that’s precisely what we’ve chosen to focus on in Chapter 2, with a slight leaning towards building out our regular attack patterns over gimmicky spells and whatnot.
Here’s what you should absolutely consider getting and upgrading in Chapter 2:
The Wind Bear staff is one of the first serious weapon upgrades you’ll get after concluding Wukong‘s Chapter 1, and it’s a huge boon across the board. Try to upgrade this as soon as possible, as your armor is generally going to be solid enough to carry you through the first couple of areas of Chapter 2. Having fully upgraded gear, including your staff and armor, is crucial for maximizing both survivability and damage output as you progress.
Another thing you need to do is to return to the Black Wind Mountain Shrine from Chapter 1 to purchase the Back Scratcher Curio. The game doesn’t ever tell you this item is available, but it is only available at this specific Shrine, and it’s important because it massively increases your maximum Stamina, which is a serious boon in Chapter 2.
Now, the Bronze Brocade armor set is one of our favorites even as we approach Chapter 4, specifically because it ties in with our heavy focus on Immobilization and crashing attacks. Equipping certain armor sets, especially three pieces of a set, can provide set bonuses that further enhance your build and performance. Specifically, it punishes Immobilized enemies hard, and then hits them even harder if you manage to crash them out of their stupor. Some armor sets also make perfect dodges easier to execute, giving you more chances to counterattack. Combine this with heavy Spark investment in your light and power staff attacks and Immobilization upgrades (one of which allows you to regain Mana!) and you’ll have a really tough Destined One to strike out with. Investing more sparks into your skill trees can unlock advanced abilities and further boost your combat effectiveness.
The reason we recommend the Earth Wolf Attack Spirit, specifically, is because it’s a simple and straightforward charge attack that both displaces your enemies and performs a heavy stagger. It can also erode enemy health and is especially effective against tough opponents. This perfectly ties in with the rest of our Immobilization/punisher build, and we’re yet to find a simpler and more satisfying Attack Spirit, even a dozen hours later in the game. Using charged heavy attack and heavy attack as part of your offensive strategy, along with chaining light attack combos, will help you land a hit on opponents and quickly kill them, especially with the right build. Fire and thunder strike are alternative offensive spells or abilities you can incorporate for even more damage.
When allocating skill points, you can split them between different stances or trees for greater versatility, and consider investing in foundation trees for increased survivability. Upgrading key skills like force unbound and grants focus will maximize your focus point generation and overall attack potential. Depending on your preferred playstyle, you can focus on martial arts for pure physical techniques or opt for other spells to specialize your build.
For accessories, vessels are valuable items that can further enhance your build and support your chosen strategy. With the right build, you won’t have to worry about most enemy attacks, as your defensive and offensive tools will make you feel secure. As you gain experience and upgrades, bosses and opponents will eventually fall before your stick.d a simpler and more satisfying Attack Spirit, even a dozen hours later in the game.
As you dive deeper into Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong, picking the right playstyle becomes more important than ever. With the game’s expanded skill trees and a wider variety of enemies and boss fights, your approach can make all the difference between a smooth victory and a tough defeat. The beauty of Black Myth Wukong is that it gives you the freedom to experiment with different stances, skills, and equipment—so finding what works best for you is key.
If you’re the type of player who loves to stay on the offensive, the Smash Stance tree is your best friend. By investing your skill points here, you’ll unlock powerful charged heavy attacks and devastating combos that rack up focus points fast. Skills like Resolute Strike let you deal massive damage, especially when you time your attacks to break through enemy defenses or interrupt boss attacks. Fully upgrading the Smash Stance tree not only boosts your damage output but also grants you more focus points, letting you unleash even more varied combos during intense boss fights.
Prefer to play it safe and weather the storm? The Rock Solid skill tree is perfect for a defensive playstyle. By focusing your upgrades here, you’ll gain increased stamina and access to abilities that help you block, parry, and absorb hits from even the toughest bosses. Pairing the Galeguard armor set with the Wind Tamer vessel further enhances your defense, giving you the resilience to stand your ground during prolonged fights. This approach is especially useful when facing enemies with unpredictable attack patterns or when you need to outlast a boss’s most punishing moves.
For those who enjoy a bit of magic and mobility, the Cloud Step spell is a game-changer. This ability lets you dodge incoming attacks with ease and quickly reposition to strike back. When combined with the Ebongold armor set and the Wind Bear staff, you can maximize your damage output with abilities like Unveiling Strike, making quick work of most enemies. The magical playstyle is all about timing your dodges, managing your focus, and using spells to control the flow of battle.
Don’t overlook the power of spirits and accessories, either. The Wandering Wight spirit is a fantastic choice for boosting your focus and overall damage, especially in boss fights where every point counts. Equipping the Tridacna pendant can also be a smart move, as it reduces the cooldown of your spells, letting you cast more frequently and adapt to changing situations on the fly.
No matter which path you choose, the key is to invest your skill points in abilities that complement your preferred playstyle. As you progress, you’ll face a wide range of enemies and bosses, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. By adapting your skills, stances, and equipment to the challenge at hand, you’ll be able to overcome any obstacle Black Myth Wukong throws your way. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different builds—sometimes a small tweak is all it takes to turn a tough fight into a triumphant victory.
