Borderlands 4 - PC Release Date

Borderlands 4 launches on September 11, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). Originally scheduled for September 23, 2025, Gearbox moved the release date forward by 11 days due to development progress.

Nintendo Switch 2 players will need to wait a bit longer still, with that version arriving on October 3, 2025. Not too long of a wait, though, and if the prior Borderlands games are anything to go by, this version too should be fairly competent on the on the relatively low-spec handheld from Nintendo. Really though, we're much more interested in seeing how the Steam Deck handles this, and whether Gearbox might push out some dedicated optimizations for good measure. Remember: Borderlands 3 ran remarkably well on the Deck, after all!

The global PC launch goes live at 9 AM Pacific Time on September 11th, while console players get local midnight releases on September 12th in their respective regions. This means some lucky New Zealand players can technically start their vault hunting adventure around 7 AM Eastern Time on September 11th in the United States.

Note that purchasing the game after the pre-order deals are gone (i.e. after its September 11 launch date) will not net you the Gilded Glory DLC any longer. Make use of the deal while it's available!

Obviously, the Super Deluxe edition of Borderlands 4 is a massive investment that might still not pan out. If you need more help with making that decision, we've got you covered here.

Borderlands 4 - PC System Requirements

Borderlands 4 demands significantly more from PC hardware compared to previous entries in the series. The official system requirements may appear surprisingly steep for a stylized game, but do keep in mind that this is a full-fledged Unreal 5 title. Those have historically been a bit of a pain for low-spec machines, and we're hoping Gearbox has managed to sidestep the performance problems and the StutterStruggle at large.

Here's the spec, though note that you can read our more thorough Borderlands 4 system requirements guide on what they mean, too:

Minimum Requirements

Recommended Requirements

The jump to Unreal Engine 5 and the seamless open-world design explain these demanding specs. PC gaming experts note that the 8-core CPU requirement and high VRAM demands set Borderlands 4 apart from other 2025 releases. An SSD is mandatory regardless of which settings tier you target, and since it's 2025, we highly recommend having an SSD for game installations to begin with, across the board.

Post-Launch Support

Gearbox has outlined an ambitious roadmap for Borderlands 4 content beyond launch. The official post-launch roadmap reveals both free and paid content planned through 2026.

Arguably, one of the biggest issues with Borderlands 3 was that it never did receive nearly as much post-launch support as its predecessor did. Borderlands 4 lends itself much better to an extremely prolonged post-campaign content schedule in comparison, and with a less annoying assortment of villains and dialogue, we expect long-time fans to have a hoot playing the game.

Here are the bits and bobs that Gearbox has already confirmed for post-launch content access.

Free Content Updates

Paid DLC Content

The post-launch DLC structure mirrors Borderlands 3 with expanded content offerings:

Bounty Packs (4 total) - Included in Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions

Story Packs (2 total) - Included in Super Deluxe edition only

The emphasis on new Vault Hunters addresses longtime community requests. Each DLC character will offer completely different playstyles with three unique Action Skills and branching skill trees, just like the base game characters. And hey, if you're concerned as to whether the new Vault Hunters have what it takes to replace the old beloved protagonists, we've extensively covered the topic in a separate article.

Stay tuned for more on Borderlands 4!

Borderlands 4 represents Gearbox's most ambitious entry yet, combining the series' signature chaos with modern open-world design and expanded post-launch support. Is it going to resolve all of Borderlands 3's outstanding issues? Well, we've still got some reservations, but everything points to it being the case! Obviously, do stay tuned: lots more Borderlands 4 content is coming your way very, very soon - right here at 2Game.
