Gundam fans have been hard-pressed for a good, satisfying mainline console release for a long while now. Sure, we did enjoy our time with SD Gundam Battle Alliance a few years back, but that wasn't actually a mainline Gundam title but an experiment of sorts. It panned out, to be fair, but fans deserved more still, and Gundam Breaker 4, specifically, was supposed to tackle this problem head-on.
The good news, then, is that Gundam Breaker 4 is pretty darn good, all things considered. Loaded with content and delivering a massive course correction from its two predecessors' respective gameplay loops, this game is one of those that might not look too appealing to those who aren't in the know, but will absolutely send fans reeling from awesomeness.
As we've recently taken to discussing game value, Gundam Breaker 4 got caught up in the matter, too. Is it a good purchase if you're a Gundam fan? Does it have enough content? Further, are its Deluxe and Ultimate editions worth the steep investment? Find out below!

Gundam Breaker 4 is, basically, a dream come true for those who like robots, robot customization, and - we'll go there - Armored Core 6. Now, while the gameplay loop and the vibe of these two franchises couldn't be further away, we did enjoy the customization aspect of GB4 for many of the same reasons we loved AC6, and we think we're not the only ones.
Generally, this is a game about making your own custom robot monstrosity and taking it into open combat against other robot monstrosities. It's like real-world Gunpla, but better because it gives you virtually infinite options and customization without faffing about with glue and pesky real-world spending (outside of having to buy the key itself, duh).
Customization and collection are the two key pillars of Gundam Breaker 4 and, in our experience, they more than make up for the game's perceived gameplay loop failings. that won't be to everyone's taste, of course, but that's fine. This game is like Pokemon for Gunpla fans, honestly, and that's awesome.

Gundam Breaker 4 has the single best Gunpla building experience we've ever seen in a video game. By default, the base game comes with a whopping 250 Gunpla kits to collect, build, customize, and rebuild them however you see fit. In fact, GB4 sets itself apart from all the other Gunpla-building games by letting you customize each arm and each dual-wielded weapon by themselves. The sheer amount of variety present here is absolutely ridiculous, and you can tell the devs really love and cherish this franchise.
So, 250 kits (not parts, each kit has its about a dozen or more parts in and of itself), various extra bits and bobs to slap onto your Gunpla, and then you've got oodles upon oodles of paint options, materials, weathering effects, decals, and more. And that's by default, too: all of this content comes with the baseline version of Gundam Breaker 4 with no further investments necessary.
Nice, right?
Here's the kicker, though: if you choose to do so, you can spend a bit more to get a bit more. See for yourself whether the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of Gundam Breaker 4 are a good fit for your wallet!
If you purchase the Deluxe Edition of Gundam Breaker 4, you also get all of the following:
If you purchase the Ultimate Edition of Gundam Breaker 4, you also get all of the following:

We'll be honest: the main reason why we've been having such a blast with Gundam Breaker 4 is that we've been enjoying it on our Steam Deck. The game - especially given its relatively repetitive and simple gameplay loop and a focus on collection and customization - is absolutely a perfect fit for handheld PC gaming, and we've got nothing to complain about in this regard.
In the context of the game's special editions, they certainly don't feel outright necessary if you're not a full-on Gunpla fanatic. The added boons are cool, for sure, and the Season pass is absolutely going to add some cool stuff, but you can get that later on if you end up really enjoying the game.
As it is, Gundam Breaker 4 is an absolute delight for fans of the franchise and, if you're a little bit of an obsessive collector who enjoys hoarding loot, you'll find yourself right at home playing it, too. We recommend it!
