Guns in all shapes and forms are basically the reason to play Borderlands 4, and if you thought the game had loads of stuff to chase after by default, we've got even more news to share on that front. For example, though we do already know that the Pearlescent Rarity will be added sometime in 2026, Legendary Rarity isn't the be-all-end-all even today, practically on launch day! Instead, we've got Phosphene Items. Or Shiny Borderlands 4 guns, as it were!

That's right: there's a super-rare, super-special bonus rarity kind of thing in place for Borderlands 4 weapons and gear, and it's basically the Pokemon Shiny system applied to guns. In the 50-or-so cumulative hours the 2Game team has spent playing Borderlands 4 so far, we've never seen a Phosphene/Shiny even once. We do know a bunch about these guns, though, and we're happy to share!

EDIT: We're thrilled to report that it's only taken about 100-or-so hours of playtime for the first Shiny Phosphene weapon to drop in Borderlands 4! We now have screenshots and a host of extra information to share, so let's get to it.

How to get Shiny Phosphene Weapons in Borderlands 4?

First things first: there's no easy, guaranteed way for you to get a Shiny Phosphene item in Borderlands 4. In fact, whereas it's quite rare for a proper Legendary to drop if you're not target-farming one, Phosphenes are much, much rarer than even that. There's absolutely no information on even the vague drop-rate a Shiny Borderlands 4 gun might have, but here's what we do know:

Basically, you can only get Shiny Borderlands 4 guns if they're a Legendary to begin with, and as long as you receive a Phosphene at least once, you'll always be able to reapply the skin to a higher-level version of the same Legendary down the line. Extremely useful, given just how wildly rare these skins are.

And before you ask, no, you cannot apply the Phosphene/Shiny skin to anything other than the Legendary you received it for. These skins drop on a Legendary-per-Legendary basis, and this means you won't be able to "take" Phosphene off of one item and just slap it into another. Instead, you'll just have to farm your targeted Legendary and hope that you luck out with a Shiny drop sooner or later. Though Gearbox may give us a way to target-farm Phosphene Shinies down the line, we wouldn't count on this being the case, simply because Shinies are just a visual item with no effect on gameplay. This makes them entirely unnecessary, even if they are particularly neat to look at.

We're going to add more information about Borderlands 4's Shiny guns as soon as we have some, but for the time being, rest assured that the loot chase in this game is very much real, and it's going to keep us all going for a very long time indeed. Don't forget to cash in on all those fancy Golden Keys, by the way: you may well luck out with a Phosphene skin that way, if nothing else works out!

Hell Is Us Co-Op Multiplayer: Is It Available?

Hell Is Us might not command the same kind of ravenous audience as, say, Borderlands 4 does, but it's a wildly impressive game regardless. One that tackles topics that you don't often see tackled in this medium, and one that isn't afraid of making the player really think about what they're trying to do, and how they're attempting to do it. As a dedicated single-player experience, however, Hell Is Us doesn't have the sort of appeal a Co-Op multiplayer feature might add.

Indeed, Hell Is Us comes with absolutely no multiplayer functionality of any sort, and this obviously includes Co-Op multiplayer as well. This means you cannot play the game with other people neither online nor locally, as it's been designed from the ground-up as a dedicated single-player experience. Might the devs change their mind in a post-launch update, however?

Why is there no Co-Op in Hell Is Us?

Since Hell Is Us runs on Unreal Engine 5, there's nothing specifically preventing the existence of a proper multiplayer Co-Op feature. The fact of the matter is, however, that such a thing has virtually no place in Hell Is Us, and the developer is unlikely to pursue the development of the feature to that end.

Hell Is Us is slow, contemplative, and heavily focused on puzzle-solving. Its combat has a number of optional sliders that allow players to de-emphasize it to a shocking degree, even. Virtually nothing about the game lends itself to Co-Op, invasions, or anything of the kind, and so we don't expect multiplayer to come in a post-launch update.

Now, with that out of the way, a dedicated modder might be able to tweak Hell Is Us to support Co-Op via a third-party mod. This is, however, a potentially very tall order, and not something we'd count on happening anytime soon. Hell Is Us is an extremely enjoyable, bespoke single-player title and though its engine certainly supports virtually any kind of netcode the devs might've chosen to pursue, it's unlikely to happen.

The game's penchant for carrying stuff around in your left hand comes to mind, for one, but Borderlands 4's Order or Launch Silo sites may feel like a bit of a mystery as well. At least, at a glance.

Specifically, the Order Silos have four separate functions:

It's the latter feature that might seem confusingly useless at first, and that's what we're here to explain.

How does the Launch Silo work in Borderlands 4?

The Launch Silo in Borderlands 4 is extremely simple, provided that you know how to actually use it. After you've captured the site, head on out to the newly launched surveillance balloon and take note of the grapple point on it. There will be several - one for every possible player you may or may not playing with you - and grappling on to it is going to trigger the Order Silo's hover-zip travel feature.

Now, the trick to the hover-zip is that you must not use your jump button again after the surveillance balloon launches you! That's the bit that many players seem to be missing: the hover-zip basically gives you infinite hovering, all the way until you touch the ground. If you trigger your Vault Hunter's regular hoverpack, however, it overrides the hover-zip.

That may well be the missing aspect of the Order Silo feature for you, too! By leveraging the hover-zip properly, you're going to be able to cover immense tracts of land very quickly, and without using up your much-needed hoverpack energy. Give it a shot the next time you're at a Launch Silo surveillance balloon, and you should have a much better time using it.

Borderlands 4 may already have a bevy of excellent content to choose from, but we all know what everyone's point-of-interest about the game is at this point: post-launch support! What do we know about Borderlands 4's DLC Vault Hunters?

The very first all-new Borderlands 4 DLC Vault Hunter is due to release early in 2026 as part of the first big Story Pack: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. Franchise veterans will know that Ellie is Moxxi's daughter and the current proprietor of late Scooter's Catch-a-Ride system. We also know that the Mad Ellie DLC is going to be similar in vibe to Borderlands 3's finest expansion pack, Guns, Love, and Tentacles, so that's excellent news indeed.

Now, each Borderlands 4 Story Pack (two of them have been confirmed so far) is going to feature a huge chunk of new Kairos content:

As for who might the new DLC Vault Hunter be, there's simply no telling at this time. Borderlands has historically never really re-introduced old Vault Hunters as anything but story NPCs, and each and every one of them has simply been an entirely new face with an entirely new skill-set. It's possible and even likely that the Mad Ellie Vault Hunter will follow suit, and that's what we believe will happen as well. The most info we have on them so far is the mysterious outline featured on the official Borderlands 4 post-launch content roadmap:

They appear to be draped in feathers and wearing a wide-brimmed hat, which may or may not hint at the DLC's grander Eldritch/Lovecraftian ambitions. Everything else is a big mystery for now, however, so stay tuned.

We're having a grand old time farming out guns in Borderlands 4 and approaching the level cap, but it's a simple statement of fact that the game's not running the way it should. In fact, not only is Borderlands 4 awfully crummy compared to most other (non-Unreal 5) games, but it's also loaded with post-patch errors, like the infamous Incompatible Version one.

The bad news is that you never really know when Borderlands 4's Incompatible Version Error might crop up, short of expecting it after a sudden update. The good news is that we do have some potential fixes we recommend you try out. And while you're at it, you might as well optimize your game's graphics settings for an ideal balance between visuals and performance. Or... uh, at least as "ideal" as we can get it right now.

What is Borderlands 4 Incompatible Version Error?

From our admittedly limited experience with this particular error, Borderlands 4's Incompatible Version Error is a message that comes up when the game detects a mismatch between your build and that of the people you're trying to play multiplayer with. Obviously, you need to have one of those in place to prevent crashes and save corruption, but it appears that Gearbox Software might've been a tad overzealous with how they're triggered.

Notably, we've seen reports from folks who definitely do have the same Borderlands 4 game build installed and fully patched-up, and they're still getting the Incompatible Version Error. This suggests that something's been cached up somewhere in an egregious way, making the game seem like it's out-of-date at the host or the client's end. Crossplay matches, in particular, seem to be susceptible to getting beset by the error.

Regardless of whose game build is to blame, you do want to get this problem resolved ASAP unless you prefer to play Borderlands 4 entirely solo. So, here are some ways you could do just that.

How to fix the Incompatible Version Error?

The first order of business here really ought to be for you to check if there's actually been an update you might be missing. Most cases, Steam should let you know that there's a download waiting for you, but it's still possible that one might go under the radar, all stealth-like. If there is one, obviously download and install it, and give it a go again once it's all been fully implemented. Also make sure that everyone you're playing the game with does the same!

If this doesn't work, however, we've seen users report that a full restart of their machine can clear things up. On this note, we recommend doing the following:

This clears your RAM and can resolve a variety of cache-related problems you may or may not have had up until then. It's not a golden bullet, no, but it has helped us a bunch in the past, so give it a shot.

One of the more advanced potential fixes we've noticed comes from Reddit user Greedy-Wait-2539, and they report this resolved the problem for them on PC specifically. They deleted their Borderlands 4 patch and caching folders, and this ended up fixing the problem:
