Space Marine 2's Operations Mode has been a delight so far, with an awesome community building around Saber Interactive's flagship shooter. Of course, there's a whole lot of nuance surrounding the mode, with unlockables, cosmetics, and class progression options all tying together to create an experience that players will keep coming back to, over and over again. What about those weird Servo-Skulls floating about on missions, though?
Well, Servo-Skulls are actually Armory Data in Space Marine 2: a unique currency that's extremely important if you want to keep upgrading your weapons beyond the Master-Crafted tier. Since all the important tidbits open up at Artificer level and beyond, you're obviously going to want to figure out Armory Data as soon as possible. Here's what you need to know.

We've previously discussed Space Marine 2's by-far most important currency: Requisition. You'll be spending it on virtually everything important in Space Marine 2, from Class Perks all the way to weapon variants, but Armory Data is equally important with weapons, in particular. Specifically, you need Armory Data of varying tiers to open up new weapon upgrade options, and the only way to get it is to farm Servo-Skulls on appropriately difficult missions.
Let's circle back to that a bit later, though. Our first and most important recommendation for the early stages of weapon upgrading is to get A-tier ranking on all the Operation Mode class trials before doing anything else. On top of giving you a nice Requisition boost, getting A-tier ranking also rewards you Master-Crafted (green) Armory Data, which means you won't need to farm Servo-Skulls on low-difficulty missions. Handy!
However, the only way - and we mean this for real - to get Artificer (purple) and Relic (orange) tier weapon unlocks is to find Servo-Skulls on Substantial and Ruthless tier missions. That's a very tall ask unless your Astartes class of choice is already quite powerful, so expect to be stuck with Master-Crafted gear for a good long while.
Here's a small cheat-sheet for Armory Data farming:
Space Marine 2 is particularly challenging in Operations Mode, so we don't recommend overextending yourself until you've reached at least level 10 with your Astartes class. Perks will help tide you over until you can upgrade your kit with Artificer weapons, so that's a must-have.
Now, onto the meat of the matter: Servo-Skulls are entirely random spawns on Operations missions. They're easy to spot, as they're literal floating cyborg skulls, but they do spawn in areas that are easily missable, so make sure that you thoroughly explore each Operation.
As hard as the Servo-Skulls are to find, as long as one player picks one up, everyone in the squad gets it. The only prerequisite is to actually finish the mission and extract, because failing to do so means losing your Servo-Skull. This means Servo-Skulls at Substantial and Ruthless difficulty will end up dictating your pace of progression, and they're extremely important for endgame-tier Operations gameplay. Keep an eye out!
