STALKER 2: How to Complete the Poppy Field Side-Quest

One of the things we enjoy the most about STALKER 2 is that it leans way more heavily towards unique anomalies than any of its predecessors ever did before. Notably, in Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, almost all anomalies were somewhat generic and strewn all over the Exclusion Zone. Call of Pripyat had a number of entirely unique dedicated areas that felt appropriately trippy and more in line with Roadside Picnic, but the new sequel goes all-in on this concept.

Sure, you've still got your generic Whirligigs and Burners and Springboards, but then you also have the likes of the Poppy Field. This beautiful area is, in fact, extremely dangerous and hosts a bunch of loot and several notable quests you're probably going to tackle early on. You won't get far without knowing the trick to traveling through the Poppy Field, however. Here's the jig!

The Poppy Field Solution in STALKER 2

The Poppy Field is, in fact, reasonably simple to survive. Leaning heavily into the Slavic mythology and meaning of the poppy flower, the Poppy Field anomaly may or may not house a mysterious invisible entity that puts you to sleep.

As soon as you step foot into the Poppy Field, Skif is going to get drowsy, and it doesn't take long at all before he dozes off and wakes up on an entirely different part of the Field. This messes with your attempts at exploring and looting the Poppy Field, yes, but the anomaly is also going to straight-up kill you if you keep ignoring your newfound narcolepsy.

So, the trick is to load up on as many Energy Drinks as humanly possible. No, really, you need those. And heck, you'll find several stashes' worth of Energy Drinks strewn around the Poppy Field to begin with. Those aren't enough, though.

Further, we highly recommend exploring the outer rim of the Poppy Field and jumping in and out of it if Skif gets too drowsy at times. It takes a minute or two for him to wake back up, but it's worth resetting the apparent kill-timer every so often.

There's a number of quests related to the Poppy Field and, as you might suspect, knowing how to explore the anomaly is crucial in getting them sorted out. No spoilers here, as we don't aim to take away the experience of playing Heart of Chornobyl from you. That being said, you'll likely come across a mysterious Religious Icon in the Poppy Field, and then you'll be able to turn it in to two different NPCs.

If you choose to give the Icon to Mityay back in the nearby settlement, you'll only be rewarded with a meager 1,000 Coupons. Giving the Religious Icon to Pomor, however, who lives at the edge of the Poppy Field, will net you a phenomenal AR416... though you'll need to repair it before it's useful to you, which is expensive. So, weigh your options!
