Trading is absolutely crucial in STALKER at large, and it was no surprise at all when we discovered that it was our primary source of currency in STALKER 2 as well. Quite simply, not only will you always be hard-pressed for inventory space/capacity, but you're also almost always going to be just a few coins away from genuinely meaningful gear upgrades.
What this means, in practice, is that you need to trade. Lots of trading to be found here, really. Here's what you need to know to make the best bang for your buck in STALKER 2.

First things first, traders are quite common in STALKER 2. Generally, every settlement in the game - both small and large - is going to have several traders for you to peruse wares from. The stuff they have on sale seemingly resets quite often and is readily available whenever you need it. This includes both expendables (i.e. ammunition, health items, and so on) and usable equipment, so you can stock up to your heart's content.
For that, though, you'll need Coupons, which are STALKER 2's main currency. Earning money's always been tricky in mainline STALKER games, but this goes doubly so for Heart of Chornobyl. Take the simple baseline gas mask featured in the screenshot above, for one. It'll cost you 10,500 Coupons to purchase it, and most random quests will award you with a few grand at most at a time.
Since Coupons are also the go-to currency for item repair, you're never going to have an overabundance of it, and this means you'll want to sell off everything you won't immediately use. Guns and armor are a decent source of Coupons, to be sure, but your carrying capacity is fairly limited, so you can't lug many of them around at a time. Further, broken items cannot be sold off, so those you can leave back without fussing about them.
Artifacts, however, are an excellent source of Coupons. Even the most common of them will sell for a few grand at a time, and they're not that hard to find in the grand scheme of things.
