Starfield: 5 Awesome Quests (And How To Trigger Them)

In classic Bethesda Game Studios fashion, Starfield's sidequests and alternative side-stories are usually far more interesting than its main quest line is. Granted, we do firmly believe that this is by far the best main quest Bethesda's ever come up with for its mainline RPG, and it is well worth your time and attention! Still, though, everyone makes their own path in Starfield, and it's a given that you'd want to give something a bit different a shot. Something off the beaten path, if you will.

That's where this article comes into the picture!

Over the next couple of sections, we've come up with a list of absolutely phenomenal side-quests you need to finish in Starfield. Triggering them isn't always easy or obvious, and it might come at the cost of a spoiler or two, but it's all worth it in the grand scheme of things. So, if you need an extra reason to play this lovely new sandbox RPG, we've got five of them coming right up.

#5: Supra Et Ultra

Early in the main questline, Sarah takes you to meet Commander Tuala at the MAST district of New Atlantis, and that's your opportunity to sign up for Vanguard service and kick-off the Supra Et Ultra questline. Look, we won't spoil much, but this is about as close as Starfield gets to the Alien franchise and other such sci-fi horror films, and it's a hoot from start until the very end. Suffice it to say that few things are what they seem at first, and that you'll end up dealing with a threat much more serious than you'd anticipate at first.

#4: Entangled

It is possible that the Entangled quest is locked behind main questline progression, but if you'd like to give it a shot, head on over to Freya III, Freya and search for a panicked distress call coming from a nearby satellite. Follow the directions as they are spelled out, and soon enough you'll find Nishina Station - an experimental research facility where everything is a-okay, no distress calls whatsoever. Naturally, there's more than meets the eye here, and what ensues is a dimension-hopping horror narrative that'll keep you on your toes for a while yet.

#3: Red Tape Questline

A trilogy of 'Red Tape' quests awaits on Cydonia, Mars. It features an impressively lengthy and detailed exploration of the life of Martian colonists and miners, in particular, as players will tasked with helping them get better gear and, consequentially, better status in the colony. It all begins after you first talk with Trevor in one of the garages close to Cydonia. You will, of course, have to point out that you used to work as a miner for Argos, upon which Trevor will mention an 'off the record' job that you could help out with. What follows is one of Starfield's most impressive explorations of the human civilization of 2330, and a surprisingly down-to-earth experience for a game about literal space travel.

#2: Operation Starseed

Starfield wouldn't be a true Bethesda Game Studios title if it didn't have its own fair share of wacky, unexpected stories. That's where Operation Starseed comes into play: an experiment that, somehow, features Franklin Roosevelt, Ghingis Khan, Ada Lovelace, Amelia Earhart, and Queen Amanirenas. No, we are not joking here. To see this madness as it takes shape - which we highly recommend - visit Charybdis III, Charybdis, and land at the highlighted Crucible location. It won't take long until you need to talk it out with some truly unexpected historical personalities. Oh, and if you play your cards right, Earhart might join your crew!

#1: United Colonies SysDef vs. Crimson Fleet

What's your relationship with Starfield's Crimson Fleet? How about the United Colonies' SysDef? Well, if you allow yourself to get caught with some contraband just once, a SysDef commander catches wind of an opportunity and blackmails you into infiltrating the Crimson Fleet. What follows is easily one of Bethesda Game Studios' best questlines to date, allowing you to side with either faction and define what the galaxy looks like for times to come. This is one of those quests that will keep coming up when people recall Starfield a decade in the future, and it's undoubtedly going to be the bar to clear for Bethesda, too.

What's Your Next Starfield Adventure?

We hope this shortlist of must-play Starfield quests helps you choose what part of the system you should head into next! The truth is, though, that we've barely managed to scratch the surface of Starfield's finest content with this article. Bethesda has managed to deliver heaps upon heaps of compelling side-quests and content in general, and simply by allowing yourself to take in the sights and explore, you're bound to come across phenomenal experiences at your own desired pace.

While some will be whole games unto themselves, like the clash between the Crimson Fleet and SysDef, others will be minuscule side stories that will resolve themselves in a matter of minutes. So, expect plenty of variety and a record amount of goodies to loot along the way! And, of course, that's before any content mods have come out and before the first Shattered Space DLC's come out. So, big things ahead! The five quests we mentioned above will undoubtedly set you on the right path in that respect.
