As you may or may not have noticed, we're kinda big on all things gaming here at 2Game. More specifically, we take great care in highlighting games both new and old, and curiously, Sunset Overdrive is both on PC. Originally having launched in 2014, it took a lengthy 4 years for it to get a PC port. While it did garner a fair bit of attention back in '14, Sunset Overdrive kinda went under the radar when it got its PC re-release.
For that reason, we'd like to take a quick look back at this oddity of a game, and perhaps show you why it could be worth your time, too! After all, Sunset Overdrive is quite unique on PC.
Developed by none other than the legendary Insomniac Games - the talent behind Ratchet & Clank - Sunset Overdrive is completely ridiculous and over-the-top. It embraces its subject matter in full and takes us for a ride that's yet to be topped. Really, now that we think of it, Sunset Overdrive is punk in video game form.

Described as a 'celebration of games' by Insomniac themselves, Sunset Overdrive is what happens when devs say 'yes' to every crazy idea they get. If you haven't yet had the chance of seeing this game in motion, here's just a taste of what to expect:
Taking place during a self-ascribed awesomepocalypse, Sunset Overdrive takes great care in depicting everything around you as awesome. It takes notes from Insomniac's best releases, such as Ratchet & Clank and delivers a gameplay experience like no other. Few other games are quite as gamey as Sunset Overdrive, and that is especially noteworthy on PC. We're not ones to throw shade at any type of game, but occasionally it's nice to play a title whose only goal is to make you have fun. At any cost, mind!

Sure, Sunset Overdrive is weird and wacky and wonderful, but why does it matter so much that it's playable on PC? The answer is surprisingly simple in our book: Insomniac games are few and far between on this platform, and you can't find their signature anywhere else. In fact, there's only one other Insomniac title available on PC (by proxy), and that's Spyro! The developer's other flagship franchises - Resistance and Ratchet & Clank - have never been ported to PC in any capacity. Were we that thirsty for a game of their making? Sure seems to be the case!
Experience has shown that the vast, vast majority of zombie-themed video games trudge deep into grimdark territory. This is fine, of course, but sometimes a change of pace is in order. Sunset Overdrive PC is a palate cleanser. This game sends you on a trip of running and gunning to the point where it all seems like a fever dream. It's like Quake, in a way, and we love it for that.
Even now, about two years after its PC launch, Sunset Overdrive remains entirely unique. If you're wondering whether we're looking forward to a hypothetical Sunset Overdrive 2, the answer is quite positive indeed. Of course, it's fairly unlikely that Insomniac would develop a follow-up to this release, considering their recent offerings (Spider-Man on PS4). That makes us sad, but in a way, it also means this game is more likely to stand the test of time. There may not be anything to top Sunset Overdrive, you see.

What are you looking for in games? Perhaps you, too, need to embrace their innate wackiness. Sunset Overdrive PC is exactly the perfect experience to do that with. It's a trimmed-down, colorful type of open-world that places great emphasis on delivering a fun core gameplay loop. It was clearly important to Insomniac for this game to be fun in moment-to-moment gameplay, and it shows. There's always something going on, and there's always something to gun down.
Who is this game for? We think it's a perfect match for those who wish to take a break from all the grimdark RPGs and hyper-serious adventure games. For those who need something that's as wacky as it is violent, and that lets you go as fast as you humanly can. That's Sunset Overdrive for ya.
