What's New in Tekken 8?

Featuring a huge launch-day roster of 32 fighters, Tekken 8 aims to reinvigorate its tried-and-true gameplay loop by going all-in on aggression. Indeed, the developer is reworking Tekken 7's Rage system into the Heat Gauge - a special state/resource you'll leverage through Heat Smash and Heat State moves. The goal is to set up a gameplay and combat loop that rewards extreme aggression rather than defensiveness, and the Heat system should help in that regard.

Further underlining this focus on aggression and destruction is the fact that each level will be even more destructible than ever before. This is possible specifically due to Tekken 8 being built on Unreal Engine 5, which allows for way more technical leeway than any prior Tekken title had.

Aside from these core gameplay upgrades, Tekken 8 is also getting its own dedicated open-world Online hub: the Arcade Quest. For Arcade Quest, players will build their own Chibi-esque avatars and fight for Fight Money.

PC-specific features in Tekken 8

So far, Bandai Namco hasn't gone on record designating any major PC-specific features or goodies for Tekken 8. Given that the game's built on Unreal Engine 5, however, we expect major scalability and advanced visual tech, if nothing else. Do stay tuned on this front!

Genre Novelties and Beyond

Aside from attempting to move the franchise forward through gameplay upgrades and online mode changes, Tekken 8 is also going to deliver a huge selection of playable fighters featuring high-detailed character models. Its roster includes iconic fighters such as Nina Williams, Steve Fox, and Kazuya Mishima, but also four all-new combatants:

Each character's unique features will help provide options that are just the right match for your own personal preferences in combat. Instead of hunkering down with a smaller selection of combatants, Bandai Namco aims to go all-out, and they've even confirmed that each character will have been built from the ground up to leverage Unreal Engine 5 in the best way possible. Expect everyone to look ridiculously cool, in other words.

Tekken 8 PC Release Date

Tekken 8 is coming out on PC on January 26, 2024. We've got a few months to go before the game's in our hands at the time of writing this article, then, but you're going to want to keep checking in with us. Not only have we got some sweet discounts in place already, but we've also got more Tekken coverage planned, to boot!

Tekken 8 PC System Requirements

Given that Tekken 8 runs on Unreal Engine 5, it's safe to say that you'll need a reasonably powerful PC to run the game at a playable and enjoyable frame rate. The good news is that Bandai Namco seems to have had optimization in mind from the very start. Both the minimum and the recommended hardware specs cite 60 FPS as the playable baseline and performance target, and the requirements are humbler than we expected.

Minimum Specs

Recommended Specs

The 2070 is, for sure, on the lower end of the modern mid-range hardware scale. This implies that it shouldn't be too hard to run Tekken 8 when all is said and done, but we'll need to see some hardcore benchmarks ourselves to believe it. Unreal Engine 5 has proven to be somewhat problematic, performance-wise, and we'll be thrilled if Bandai Namco manages to break the curse.

All Tekken 8 PC Editions and Content

As with any other modern AAA release, we've got several different versions of Tekken 8 to choose from. While most players are going to be perfectly happy with the base game, others may wish to splurge more on higher-grade versions. Doing so will score you exclusive cosmetics and access to the Season Pass, of course, so there's plenty of value to be found here.

Tekken 8 Base Game

The base Tekken 8 version of the game is precisely what it says on the tin: for $69,99, you get to fight on! If you place a pre-order (which you should do via 2Game to get 10% off!) you'll also get a special Paul Phoenix set of Avatar customizations.

Tekken 8 Deluxe Edition

Now, the Deluxe Edition of Tekken 8 is fairly substantial in its own right. Priced at $99,99, this version of the game comes with an extra suite of bonus post-launch characters, and a wealth of extra cosmetics:

Tekken 8 Ultimate Edition

Finally, the Ultimate version of Tekken 8 is downright immense. It'll set you back for sure, at $109,99, but you're getting essentially everything there is to get in the game on day one and beyond. We're not joking, even:

For fans of Tekken itself, as a franchise, this package is sure to be an enticing offer. And hey, if you need more enticement, 2Game offers a sweet 17% off on this version of the game. A heck of a price slash, isn't it?

Can Tekken 8 Compare to 2023's Fighting Game Lineup?

Finally, the biggest question of them all: can Bandai Namco's delightful new fighting flagship stand up to 2023's impeccable fighting game roster? Remember, we've had both Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 this year, and though Tekken 8 is coming out in 2024, it's still the same fighting game generation as the other two.

Both of the aforementioned competitors brought about key novelties and important upgrades, and the obvious expectation is that Tekken 8, too, will deliver. Considering just how big of a win Tekken 7 was on PC, we've got a good feeling about this one as well. Do stay tuned, then, and make sure you've got 2Game's pre-release Tekken 8 discounts in mind!
