In total, there are 22 worldwide locations available in GRID: Legends at launch, with 137 total layout options available. This should, in theory, make for an incredibly varied and interesting number of events. There's also the promise of more being added down the line - not to forget.

But What Makes GRID: Legends Special?

GRID Legends Cars and Gameplay Overview: Article Pic 3

As we had previously suggested, there's more to GRID: Legends than meets the eye. Whereas games such as Forza Horizon focus on throwing as much content at the player as humanly possible, and Gran Turismo attempts to address the car culture at large, GRID: Legends is going for a different angle.

Let us explain!

The narrative twist

Firstly, GRID: Legends aims to deliver a way more narrative-centric racing game than anything else on the market. Inspired by Codemasters' previous smash-hit, F1 2021, GRID is adopting this title's surprisingly solid narrative progression to draw people into the world of motorsport. And - presumably - without the F-tier acting that was present in the majority of previous racing games attempting something similar.

The laser-focused content delivery

Much like in real-world motorsport competitions, you don't get to race anything and everything in GRID: Legends. There's a very specific selection of vehicles present in this game that are only available in very specific championships. Instead of collecting cars like Pokémon, players will need to learn the comparatively small selection of cars by heart instead. This leads to a vastly different approach to meta progression and a potentially healthier and more balanced racing experience.

The intro to motorsport culture

Finally, there's the obvious fact that GRID: Legends isn't like most other racing games. It's not trying to evoke the usual gearhead experience, but a more professional racing atmosphere. This is motorsport, thorough and through, and with no new Forza Motorsport game on the horizon anytime soon - from what we can tell - players yearning for this kind of racing will want to check out the new GRID game for sure.

In closing!

And there you have it! By now, you should have a pretty solid idea of what GRID: Legends is, and what it isn't. Namely, this is shaping up to be a vastly different game from almost anything else on the market. Short of - of course - the previous GRID titles.

The refocusing of the franchise on championship-level rivalries (with evolving AI as the player progresses) seems to be the right way to go. As other, more established racing IPs commandeer their own niches, so too does GRID: Legends have an opportunity to drive home the Motorsport focus.

Whether Codemasters and EA can deliver on this front, of course, is another matter entirely. The competition is about as fierce as real-world GT4 and GT5 get, and there's no room for bumbling mistakes this time. Thankfully, everything we've seen so far points at the very real possibility of this being the GRID game to play.

GRID: Legends is set and primed to come out on PC later this week, on February 24th!
