If you're currently stuck in self-isolation with your partner: we envy you. This is the perfect opportunity to have a bit of gaming fun with them even if they're not *that* keen on video games. For those of us who aren't quite as lucky, gaming is thankfully still an option with our pick of low spec multiplayer games that run on anything and everything!
In the following few paragraphs, we'll present you with 7 awesome video games that will almost certainly perform well on weak PCs. Even laptops without dedicated graphics processors, more often than not! Naturally, the games you're about to see aren't the latest and greatest. However, they will provide you with hours of fun! Especially if you Skype with your partner along the way. Let's get on with it!
Why not begin with the newest of all the games on this list? For The King sure looks neat and modern, but it verifiably will run on a low-spec PC. Better still, due to its simplistic and minimalistic art-style, it will still look decent enough even if you have to lower a few settings.
The game is a very simplified cooperative multiplayer RPG. If you ever played a match of Dungeons & Dragons, this is it! Simpler and more streamlined, for sure, but pretty much the same thing still. It's a great game to relax and have fun with and comes pre-packed with an almost ridiculous amount of content.
Don't let the 'HD Edition' tag fool you: this is still the good old HOMM3 we all know and love! It's just that the game received a substantial optimization update for modern computer hardware. Honestly? This game is a must-play piece of gaming history. If you have the opportunity to play HOMM3 in local multiplayer, don't miss out!
Naturally, online multiplayer works perfectly well, too, and strategically-minded players will enjoy this game quite a lot. As you'd expect, HOMM 3 HD will run on a 130-year-old abacus if need be.
Killing Floor 2 may not be very low-spec-friendly, but its direct predecessor, Killing Floor, is! This classic wave-based mutant-exploder offers unprecedentedly brutal gameplay that can easily run well on truly old and low-end machinery. The game is as fast as ever, and though it's plainly obvious that time hasn't been very kind to it, its grimdark art-style holds up well enough.
A must-play if you're a fan of shooters and a great choice for those who want to introduce their partners to a game that's a bit more real-time hardcore than the turn-based RPGs we showcased above!
A real-time strategy that's as amazing as it is low-end, Impossible Creatures lets you build up your army of horrific monstrosities from a wide spectrum of animal parts! It's precisely as insane as it sounds, we promise. Most importantly for us today, though, it will perform admirably well on just about anything!
Since this is, after all, an RTS, you're going to want to maintain a moderately stable frame-rate at all times. There aren't that many units on-screen at any given moment, but make sure that you have about a gigabyte of RAM and at least 128 MB of VRAM for your graphics processor. Fret not: most of you do!
Here's something a bit more abstract than a pair of rhino-centipedes beating each other up! Puyo Puyo Champions is essentially an insanely fun arcade puzzler where players compete against one another in classic mini-game fashion. If you've ever played one of those mad Sweets Destroyer games on your phone, you know what you're getting into.
Naturally, multiplayer is what matters the most here. Puyo Puyo being a wonderfully simple concept, you'll get even non-gamers playing in no time at all. Be warned, though: arguments over who's being unfairly brutal may arise!
Ah, the classic low-end turn-based side-scrolling thingamajig: Worms Armageddon. No game list is complete without this classic, and since the concept and the franchise is yet to outperform this amazing little game, we're sticking with it. Admittedly, it does take a bit to get into the groove of things in this Worms game, but it's fun as all hell once you do.
We will admit that some might be put off by the concept: it does seem moderately obtuse and hard-to-control at first. That said, if you start slow and simple, we think everyone can have fun with Worms Armageddon.
Short and to-the-point, we hope this little list helps you and your partner pick out something that you can both play and enjoy, even if you don't have dedicated gaming rigs. Yours truly has found much success with the games featured above, so chances are that you will, too!
Have fun, and stay at home!
