Metaphor: ReFantazio Party Members and How to Unlock Them

Forming bonds with your Party Members is a big part of what makes Metaphor: ReFantazio so engaging. As you journey through the main quest, you’ll unlock 8 unique Party Members, each bringing their own skills to the table. The good part? This recruitment is automatic, so you don’t have to worry about missing anyone.

That said, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the progression and bond levels of your team, to really unlock their potential. Plus, don’t forget your Followers! These allies play important support roles outside of battle, providing buffs and bonuses. Followers also assist you in unlocking Archetypes. Here's a list of the Metaphor: ReFantazio Party Members, and a bit about them:

1. The Protagonist

Your journey begins with the Protagonist, a member of the Elda Tribe who embarks on a quest to save his childhood friend, the Prince of Euchronia. The Protagonist is your first Party Member by default, and is accompanied by the fairy Gallica.

While you can name him, the Protagonist's primary Archetype is set as the Seeker. This Archetype offers balance and versatility, allowing you to adapt to a variety of scenarios you find yourself in.

2. Stohl

Stohl is a noble from the Clemar Tribe who, despite his status, is down-to-earth and driven by a strong sense of justice. Taking on the Warrior Archetype, Stohl is an essential front-line fighter. As your bond deepens, he can unlock higher-level Archetypes like the Swordmaster and, eventually, the Samurai.

3. Grius

A mysterious informant from the Rhoag Tribe, Grius joins shortly after Stohl. He may not have a clear-cut Archetype initially, but his wealth of knowledge and network of connections, especially through his daughter Maria, make him invaluable. Grius’s presence strengthens your party with his tactical insight.

4. Hulkenberg

The fierce royal knight, Hulkenberg, from the Roussainte Tribe, joins your party in search of the Prince, who was attacked on her watch. With her Knight Archetype, she’s your tank—able to absorb damage and protect the more vulnerable members of your team. Over time, her bond with you allows her to unlock even stronger archetypes like the Magic Knight and Paladin, providing both offense and defense capabilities.

Hulkenberg's Bond will automatically unlock once you exit the mausoleum, but you'll need to complete the Regalith Grand Cathedral dungeon before you can raise her Bond rank.

5. Heismay

Heismay, from the nocturnal Eugief Tribe, joins your team during a pivotal storyline. He embodies the Thief Archetype, and as your relationship grows, he can become an Assassin or even a Ninja. Heismay's journey is one of redemption, grieving his son’s death, and ultimately finding purpose in the midst of tragedy.

Heismay’s Bond unlocks automatically while you're inside Martira's inn at night. However, to deepen your Bond with him further, you’ll need to reach Eloquence Rank 2. His rank-up events tend to happen at night, much like those of fellow character Brigitta, making for some interesting dynamics as you progress through the story.

6. Junah

The famous songstress Junah, of the Nidia Tribe is known for her powerful performances and the Masked Dancer Archetype, which allows her to shift skills and weaknesses depending on which mask she’s wearing. Completing the Save the Mourning Snakes side quest unlocks her full potential, allowing you to elevate her to the Persona Master Archetype.

7. Eupha

Eupha, the Priestess of the Mustari Tribe, joins your party after the events at Virga Island. With her Summoner Archetype, she’s capable of calling forth powerful creatures to aid you in battle. As you deepen your connection with the Priestess, you can unlock even more powerful Archetypes like the Devil Summoner, but doing so requires completing the Trial of Malnova.

8. Basilio

Basilio, a member of the Paripus Tribe, joins the party late in the game. To recruit him and unlock his primary Archetype, the Berserker, you must progress far enough in the story, then have a conversation in the engine room of the Gauntlet Runner.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Followers and How They Support You

As previously noted, Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio play a crucial role in providing powerful buffs and bonuses. They may not be out there battling alongside you, but strengthening your bonds with them unlocks new abilities and elite Archetypes that help you on your journey. For example, characters like Gallica enhance your party's effectiveness, while others, like Neuras, lend a hand during specific quests or dungeon runs.

Gallica

This magical fairy is with you from the very beginning. Gallica's bond progresses automatically as part of the story, with the evolution of her Archetypes from Mage to Elemental Master, taking place during key narrative moments. As a Follower, Gallica offers potent buffs and magical support, making her an invaluable ally outside of direct combat.

Neuras

Thanks to his impressive engineering skills, Neuras is the mastermind behind the Gunner Archetype, which focuses on providing ranged support. Neuras also has some impressive evolution options: his Adept Archetype is the Sniper, and he can eventually become a Dragoon as you deepen your bond with him. To strengthen your connection, you'll need to tackle a series of quests that become available as you explore new regions.

Maria

Specializing in healing with the Healer, Cleric, and Savior Archetype evolutions, Maria supports the party with vital recovery spells. Providing a breath of fresh air with her optimistic outlook, this bubbly Follower also represents your first way to access Light damage.

Catherina

Catherina is a Brawler Archetype who evolves into a Pugilist and eventually a Martial Artist. You’ll first meet her in the Grand Trad Catacombs early in the game, but her storyline is primarily locked until you reach Altabury.

Although she doesn’t join your party, Catherina remains a valuable ally, assisting you in various dungeon runs.

Alonzo

Alonzo is a fascinating character, filling the role of a Faker with the potential to become a Trickster. However, behind Alonzo's deceptive facade lies a kind heart, and you'll uncover more about him as you rank up your social link.

To start building your bond with Alonzo, you'll need to unlock his quest, which requires an Imagination level of two. As you progress, you’ll also need to meet specific Wisdom, Tolerance, and Courage requirements to deepen your relationship.

Bardon

Bardon joins the fray as a Commander, capable of evolving into a General and eventually a Warlord. You’ll gain him as a Follower after liberating Martira.

Bardon's narrative revolves around the challenges of rebuilding the old Castle Town, while navigating the heavy responsibilities of leadership. His journey illustrates the complexities of power and duty, making him an intriguing ally on your adventure.

Brigitta

Brigitta Lycaon is a Merchant Archetype with aspirations to become a Tycoon. To unlock her, you’ll need to have a Wisdom level of two and complete the “A Bullish Embargo” quest.

As you get to know her, you’ll discover a tragic backstory filled with trauma. However, despite this, she uses her wealth and determination to give back to her community. Brigitta's storyline culminates in a poignant conclusion, unlocked through the main quest.

More

More serves as your guide in mastering the Seeker Archetype. This amnesiac writer requires you to complete a series of tasks to improve your bond with him. More's progression involves advancing through several ranks, similar to Neuras, making your interactions with him both meaningful and rewarding as you explore the depths of his character.
