If it wasn't for the ongoing silicon shortage, we'd have a solid argument for there being a veritable PC gaming renaissance in 2021. No, seriously - hear us out: the category of console exclusives on PC is just the start of it!

We've got a top-end PC gaming handheld incoming - from Valve -, we're getting stellar optimization breakthroughs with the likes of DLSS and FidelityFXSR, and the platform is incredibly relevant for virtually every aspect of gaming in general. Hell, even really old hardware can still keep up in certain games, which wasn't a thing at all about 10-15 years ago.

Long gone are the days of shoddy console ports of the mid-aughts. Good riddance, we say! Nowadays, even PlayStation is reaching out to launch their console exclusives on PC, if you can believe that. We've already received a bunch of their top-tier titles, and today, we'd like to go over some games that we're hoping to see in the near (or far!) future.

Console Exclusives on PC so Far!

days gone on PC: foggy vista overlook

As many of you will already know, there's a bunch of console-exclusive games we've already received on PC. In fact, there are so many of them out there that it's hard to keep track of them all. We've singled out a few of them - both from PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Naturally, the end goal of platform-ditching for former console exclusives is always to earn more money at a minuscule investment, compared to creating an entirely new game. It's a good thing, then, that virtually all of these staggering PC releases are proving to be massive successes across the board. Horizon: Zero Dawn is a prime example, for one, and its PC launch apparently rivaled that of The Witcher 3, of all things.

Here are a few former console exclusives you can (and should) now enjoy on PC, too:

Eagle-eyed readers will notice that this article deals mainly with Sony's own PlayStation exclusives, short of a few standout titles such as Halo's own Master Chief Collection. The reason behind this is the fact that Microsoft/Xbox is already pushing all of their current-gen releases to PC in the first place.

All eyes on PlayStation in 2021

With all relevant Xbox exclusives already on PC - both via Steam and via the Microsoft Store - this opens up the door for previous generations' Xbox exclusives down the line, too. We'd love to see old Forza, Gears of War, and Red Dead titles made available on PC natively, for example. Halo 5 would be neat, too, as we've got the entire rest of the series already.

Setting that whole shindig aside, though, this leaves us with Sony being way pickier about what comes to PC and what doesn't. On Steam, PlayStation's franchise page features a whooping 50 entries. Many of them are as of yet unrevealed. We do know, for example, that we're getting Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and God of War (!), but there's no telling (khm) what else could be coming, too.

To that end - we've assembled a shortlist of games we'd be thrilled to see on PC down the line. Check them out in the next section, and do let us know if you agree, and whether you've got some different ideas about what may or may not be coming in the future!

PC Console Exclusives We're Hoping to See!

Demon's Souls

It's been a full year since we voiced our suspicions about Demon's Souls not coming to PC. It seems that we were wrong, after all, but this only means we're even more interested in playing From Software's first mainstream foray into RPG gaming on PC.

Really, Demon's Souls is the most hardcore, the strangest, and the most obfuscated entry in From's Souls series of games. It kickstarted the entire niche that has shown remarkable growth in popularity over the past decade or so, and it remains a must-play classic even today. If you have the hardware for it, of course.

Demon's Souls in its Remastered/Remade version is a thing to behold. We do believe it's going to make its way to PC eventually, though not anytime soon.

Gran Turismo Sport / Gran Turismo 7

Of course, we've got Forza and Project CARS titles on PC, but Gran Turismo is the gearhead's dream game. Especially now that Gran Turismo 7 will be making a return to form, with a proper Career Mode and all.

Had God of War not been announced a few weeks back, Gran Turismo would've been the last game on our list of PlayStation hopefuls. Yet, here we are, and who knows whether anything comes of it. In 2021, Gran Turismo Sport is the only truly relevant GT game, mainly due to the fact that 5 and 6 weren't all that well-regarded for a variety of reasons.

It wouldn't be a big surprise to see GT Sport on PC during the final hype-up period for GT 7's PlayStation launch. It's pretty obvious that everyone and their mum would get a Gran Turismo game on PC, and Sony knows this, too. It's bound to happen, we feel.

Ghost of Tsushima

ghost of tsushima on PC theory

Ghost of Tsushima is arguably too new of a PS game to launch on PC, but the curious thing about it is that it's a one-off. An incredibly successful and well-regarded one-off, in fact. Days Gone performed amazingly well on PC, even though it was not nearly as beloved as Ghost of Tsushima on Sony's console.

The announcement of Tsushima 2 seems almost inevitable at this point, and once that's up, it also seems inevitable for Sony to release the original game on PC to - hopefully for them - get PC players into the PlayStation ecosystem for the timed exclusive follow-up.

Whether that happens or not is anyone's guess, but we'd love to play Ghost of Tsushima on PC, much the same as we loved playing Days Gone on PC!

Bloodborne

Much as is the case with Demon's Souls, Bloodborne too feels like an inevitable PC release at some point. The problem, though, is that Sony doesn't actually seem to be doing anything with this IP. To be sure, there are rumors, but we've been hearing those for quite a long while now.

Make no mistake here - some very reliable sources have gone on record to claim that a PC port of Bloodborne is all but complete already. Presumably, it's being kept as a hail Mary for Sony as they announce the exclusive release of Bloodborne 2 for PlayStation 5. We're just going to say that you ought to keep a handful of salt at hand, too.

This is the standard operating procedure for Sony, obviously. Whether true or not, we'd love to finally be able to play Bloodborne at 60 FPS and without the shoddy temporal blur it had at launch.

Returnal

Returnal is almost entirely unique in most ways that matter. This mind-bending AAA rogue-lite shooter is fun, exciting, and trippy as all hell. It's also one of Sony's one-off IPs that have proven to be prime candidates for PC releases as of late.

Truth be told, there's really nothing else on the market that's even close to what Returnal offers, and Sony is bound to be aware of this - it's bound to lead to substantial sales if it ever does come out on PC, to be sure. Arguably, Deathloop kind of deals with the same topic, but it's hardly the right analogy to be made here.

We don't think Returnal lends itself to a sequel at all, but this also means that Sony could launch it on a non-PS platform without fear of sales cannibalization down the line. Who knows!

Ratchet & Clank (2016) / Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank is the PlayStation exclusive. Sitting neatly alongside Gran Turismo, it's the one franchise that's been a top-tier mainstay on just about every PlayStation console under the sun. Much like God of War, then, Sony would be wise to launch a Ratchet & Clank game on PC as the leadup to the next inevitable entry in the series.

If a Ratchet & Clank was to launch on PC - as some sources claim it might - it might not be the latest Rift Apart entry, but its 2016 kinda-sorta reboot.

Truthfully, we'd be okay with either of these. We just want to play some native Ratchet & Clank on PC in 4K/60! It's been too long, and we're hoping that Sony ends up bringing it over to PC sometime in the (near) future.

Red Dead Redemption

red dead redemption original PC port theory

Finally, we'd like to wrap things up with a non-specific console exclusive. The original Red Dead Redemption - itself being a follow-up to Red Dead Revolver - never came out on PC, but it certainly did launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In effect, this means that neither Microsoft nor Sony would be that interested in keeping the game locked into their own ecosystem. It will be entirely up to Rockstar themselves to decide whether it's worth it for them to port over RDR to PC. Given the sort of universal appeal this game commands, and given how different it is from its sequel - it's bound to happen sooner or later.

The original GTA trilogy is being remastered, after all. What after that? Who knows! But we think it might be RDR, at long last.

Closing Thoughts

Whatever your take on console exclusives on PC might be, one thing's for sure: they are coming. Xbox exclusives are practically nil, and Sony's being more and more lenient about launching their stuff on PC. In effect, if you've got even half-decent PC hardware at hand, you've got access to the single biggest library of former console exclusives in the history of gaming. Really think about what that means for us, gamers.

And yeah, we would've scoffed at the idea of Gran Turismo 7 on PC a few years back, too. Now that God of War and Uncharted are coming in a matter of months, though? Not that we've got Horizon and Days Gone? Everything is on the table. To be sure, Sony will definitely be strategic about what's coming and what's not. Even more so on when one of their former exclusives might hit the PC stores.

Regardless, we're thrilled at the prospect of playing these games, and we know you are, too.
