What to expect out of Rainbow Six Siege Year 5 Pass?

Siege Year 5 Pass

It wasn't too long ago that we went into some detail on what we expect out of Rainbow Six Siege's content for 2020. After a year as busy and productive as 2019 was, Ubisoft is eager to keep up the pace. We would be, too! The publisher has already shared a fair bit of info about the Siege Year 5 Pass, in fact. Billed as the 'biggest year, ever' for Siege, Year 5 will introduce all-new Operators, exclusive cosmetics and other assorted content, and a variety of reworks. We'll be going over all of that here, of course.

In concrete terms, it's interesting to mention that there won't be the usual 8 new Operators in 2020. Instead, only 6 will be released in Year 5. Operation Void Edge brought two of them forward already: Iana and Oryx. This dynamic duo has been romping all over the servers since February 17th! Fan-favorite Oregon map also received a substantial rework, and a variety of other balancing changes and additions have been introduced as well. As we said - heaps of awesome stuff.

As was the case before, developers are dedicated to maintaining the level of quality Siege is known for. With changes both huge and granular, they aim to keep balancing the game in Y5, too. We've no doubt they'll continue doing a stellar job. As for content releases aside from new Operators, little has been changed. Cosmetics and maps are kings, after all.

Siege Year 5 Pass Roadmap

The roadmap is here! It's quite a hefty one, too, regardless of there being fewer Operators on it. Season 1 of Year 5 - Void Edge - is currently underway, and it's going to last for a while still. With an average shelf life of about three months, we're looking at a May release for Season 2. Regardless, we already have a few hints on what's coming, and when.

Year 5 Season 2 - ETA May 2020

Year 5 Season 3 - ETA August 2020

Year 5 Season 4 - ETA November 2020

Classic format, with no signs of slowing down, when all is said and done. Sure, there might be fewer Operators coming in Year 5, but this can only be good for the long-term health of the game. It leaves more time for devs to focus on reworks, optimizations, and balancing passes!

You may also be wondering what does actually buying the Siege Year 5 Pass get you. Both in the short-term and in the long run! Naturally, we do have a concise list of content you'll nab right away. The boons you get by purchasing the Year 5 Pass can be separated into two categories. Find them below!

Year 5 Operators and Bonus DLC

1-Year VIP Membership Perks

For an up-and-coming R6 Siege player, these may prove to be absolutely crucial for gameplay min-maxing. Not only will you be getting all of the good stuff early and free, but you'll also earn a variety of the game's resources faster. A win-win, we feel.

Of course, all players will also be granted access to balancing and rework items mentioned in the Roadmap. This means there's a substantial amount of content coming in Year 5. Honestly, more than we thought there would be, as we felt Ubisoft would forego Operators in favor of further updates and rebalancing passes.
