Red Dead Redemption 2 was recently released for PC to the joy of many long-time fans. Of course, it is available right here on 2game. But if you haven’t played any of the previous installments you might feel a little bit overwhelmed. The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is enormous, with myriad of possibilities and mechanics you need to master if you’re going to become a proper wild west outlaw. There is no shame in asking for a bit of guidance every now and then. That’s why I’m here to tell you about the things you might not have expected from Red Dead Redemption 2 and how to best prepare for it.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game that takes it slow. This is not one of the games that will bombard you with the entirety of its open world, a million guns and characters you need to learn, or a story that moves so fast you can’t keep up. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a finely-tuned experience presented in a way you can take your time and enjoy it. The world will gradually unfold in front of you. Character will slowly introduce themselves over the course of campaign. You will have the time to learn and master all the mechanics and all they have to offer. Take your time and enjoy the ride.
The bread and butter of the game. The writing is where Red Dead Redemption 2 truly shines. While it is true that there are other games that focus on narrative, this game still manages to stand out. The characters in it are not just well-written. They do not seem like video game characters. Every person you meet talks, acts, and feels like a real person. That goes for the character you play as too – Arthur Morgan. It is not often that a playable character from a game set in another era is relatable, engaging, or even likable, and yet, Arthur checks every one of those off the list. He might be an outlaw and a gunslinger, but he’s an outlaw with complexity you don’t see enough of in video games.
Even the toughest of gunslingers can’t spend every waking moment robbing trains and… slinging guns? That’s why at the start of the second chapter you’ll set up camp at the Horseshoe Overlook. The camp will serve as your primary base, a place where you go to sleep and eat, restock on supplies and everything else an outlaw might need to do in order to maintain his reputation. The camp is also upgradeable. With camp upgrades come better benefits. The quality of the food becomes better, more supplies will become available to you, and you can even unlock fast travel. Just keep in mind that the camp’s supplies are not infinite. In order to keep everything running smoothly and being able to stock up whenever you want you’ll have to do your part. That means contributing money, materials, and part of the supplies to the camp whenever you can. Basically, for everything you find the camp gets a cut.
Of course, horses will only come unexpected to you in Red Dead Redemption 2 if you’ve been mistakenly watching the trailers for a wrong game. But there is a bit more to it than just climbing onto a horse and riding the dusty roads. Horses will have their own health and stamina which you’ll have to manage. If you don’t let your horse rest or feed it every once in a while it will either throw you off while riding it or collapse. So make sure you’re taking good care of them and they’ll take good care of you. With time you will also advance your horse bonding skill. Each level of the skill will allow you to perform more advanced manoeuvres, such as strafing or skidding.
Picking a horse is also not as easy as it might seem. There are a total of 19 breeds of horses in the game, each with their own stats and attributes. Red Dead Online also introduced 3 more breeds to it, bringing up the total to 22. Those stats and attributes categorize the horses into several types. You can find race horses, work horses, war horses, riding horses, draft horses, and superior horses. With over 60 different coat combinations you can find your perfect partner and ride off into the sunset together.
If you enjoy multiplayer experiences I have some good news for you! Red Dead Redemption 2 comes with the addition of Red Dead Online for no extra charge. Red Dead Online is a multiplayer version of Red Dead Redemption 2 in which you can take part of many, MANY activities, be it alone or in a posse with your friends. It even allows you to choose one of three paths to develop your character along a unique path. Each of the roles, consisting of a Bounty Hunter, Trader, and Collector, have their own individual benefits. If shooting other players seems fun you’ll be delighted to know there are many modes to choose from where you can do just that. Choose between a free-for-all match, team death match, weapon race, and many more in Red Dead Online and let your guns do the talking.
This should pretty much cover all you need to know at the beginning of the game. There are some more advanced tips and tricks I would like to share with you, but those are for some other time. After all, you first need to start playing! To do so, you can get your copy of the game right HERE at 2game.
I'll see you next time, pardner.
