What is the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass?

The concept of a 'Season Pass' is unfamiliar to just about no one nowadays, for better or for worse. The good thing about some of them, though, is that they genuinely do add a whole bunch of content to the game in question! With the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass, for example, there's so much more than a fresh batch of cosmetics and weapons - there are new Bond Episodes!

I mean, don't get me wrong, new cosmetics and weapons are released as part of the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass. It's just that they're not the star of the proverbial show. Instead, Bond Episodes come front and center. These new Bond Episodes are already proving to be a terrific move for Bandai Namco.

Bond Episodes are, in effect, extra narrative missions that help develop the protagonist's relationship with his companions. As per the official announcement, we're looking at a fair few new Bond Episodes with the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass, including new Bond Episodes that feature boosts for existing friendships, as well as new Bond Episodes that boost all-new companion beats.

The whole pitch of Bond Episodes is delightfully simple, really: "Gift new presents to liven up your hideout, enhance bonds and get stuff from your allies as well!" It's hard to argue against this premise.

Scarlet Nexus Season Pass Content

If you're looking for hard data and numbers on the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass, however, then the sales pitch won't mean much to you. Thankfully, Bandai Namco is very up-front about what you get as part of the Season Pass:

So, it's a hefty chunk of content, to be sure. Doubly so if you're really eager to get back in and play Scarlet Nexus some more. The thing to keep in mind, of course, is that we've only received DLC #1 at the time of writing this article (November 23rd). This means, in effect, that early adopters don't get everything right this instant. Content doesn't need to be developed, after all, and this is pretty standard fare when it comes to modern post-launch game support.

Scarlet Nexus Ultimate Upgrade - What is it?

Eagle-eyed gamers may have also noticed that the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass isn't the only new batch of content available for the game. The recently-launched Ultimate Upgrade Pack, for one, is even more comprehensive than the regular Season Pass offerings, and it does feature a few extra boons for superfans, we feel.

Here's what you get with it:

In effect, this is a bulked-up version of the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass. Since it mostly features high-end copies of the game's art (i.e. artwork, soundtrack) and a few visual customizations, we believe most players will be more than happy to stick with the regular Season Pass, instead.

That being what it is, though, Ultimate Edition Upgrade will provide plenty of value to those who just can't get enough of Scarlet Nexus's unique game universe.

Should I get the Season Pass, though?

Scarlet Nexus Season Pass: sidekick preview

Finally, there's the matter of should you, or should you not get the extra content that's being offered with the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass, including the innovative new Bond Episodes.

So far, the reviews have been almost unanimously positive about the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass. Of course, the flip side is that those who might want a huge, sprawling new adventure as part of the Season Pass will, inevitably, end up being disappointed with what's featured here.

There's nothing of that kind in DLC #1, and there's nothing to suggest we're going to be saving the world yet again as part of DLCs #2 and/or #3. That whole shindig is the core of Scarlet Nexus, after all, and the developers are more interested in offering more ways for players to interact with their growing party of combat experts. New Bond Episodes are where it's at, really.

Keeping that in mind, the conclusion is actually pretty simple! If you want to learn more about the characters in Scarlet Nexus and interact with them in fresh content, the Scarlet Nexus Season Pass is the way to go. It's great value, and it's going to provide you with hours of extra playtime whenever a new DLC is launched.

DLCs, however, are not an extra campaign mode, and we're all but sure that this won't change as the Season Pass progresses. If you're a fan of the game, then, this is a must-have. Those who want the overarching narrative to proceed will need to wait a bit longer after all.
