STALKER 2 has got a long and fascinating history to it that we'd be hard-pressed to put into an article as short and to the point as this. Most fans are, of course, already aware of the troubled road the developer GSC Game World has taken to get here, but the good news is that we're now at its end: STALKER 2 is about to launch on PC very, very soon!
It definitely feels quite surreal to be jotting that down, I'll be the first to admit. As the crowning jewel of everything Eurojank, the STALKER franchise is one of those series that is absolutely ubiquitous on PC, and to have a whole new mainline entry launching in just a few months is... well, nothing short of incredible. Here's what we know about the game's release window.
STALKER 2 is officially - for realsies - coming out on September 5, 2023. Pushback after pushback, the developer GSC Game World has struggled with a variety of problems both in and out of the game, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine being the worst of them all. Yet, they've succeeded: Heart of Chornobyl will be up, running, and fully playable later in 2024, and the wait is bound to have been worth it.
Of course, we don't really know just yet how the game will play. We've seen a few key gameplay trailers and mood showpieces, but the fact of the matter is that STALKER 2 will be an exciting unknown for most of us this September.
Isn't that what it's all about, though, in a game that explores an alternative contemporary timeline where the Chornobyl disaster was just the start of things? There are few games we're quite this excited to play, is what we're getting at, and the burgeoning STALKER community is bound to agree with us.
So, stay tuned, as we've got heaps more information about STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl slated for the coming weeks and months.
