What's included in Tekken 7 Season Pass 1?

Back in the day, before Tekken 7 found its pace properly, and before it received the many upgrades and improvements it now has, it got its first major content drop - Season Pass 1. For better or for worse, it includes precisely two additional playable characters and the Tekken Bowl mode on top of that. The metallic sheen skins are a curiosity at best, and the focus falls squarely on the two guest stars of the show.

First is Geese Howard. The Geese Howard, yeah - of Fatal Fury fame. This alone will, we reckon, make this Season Pass a serious consideration for fans of FF. The other character is Noctis of Final Fantasy XV in his famously overpowered state, though he's been nerfed since the inclusion.

Far as gameplay goes, the additional Ultimate Tekken Bowl mode is a decent side-adventure for players to pursue. It goes without saying that it won't come anywhere close to the depth of actual fighting, of course, but it's good fun overall. Somewhat reminiscent of the incredibly popular Yakuza mini-games, in a way, so we reckon it deserves a second thought, to be sure.

What's included in Tekken 7 Season Pass 2?

It's obvious right off the bat that Season Pass 2 is far meatier than its predecessor was. At least, far as the character roster is concerned. While it was a bit of a bummer not to get anything wacky like bowling this time around, Bandai Namco made up for that by including a whopping six characters in the Pass. Not half bad, right?

Now, an argument could be made that many of these are classic Tekken characters that should've been included in the base game. We disagree with that, however, given that the game came pre-loaded with heaps of playable characters anyway. This seems to have been the best of both worlds, really. Long-time fans of, say, Armor King and Anna could now finally use their favorites in combat. Bandai Namco, on the other hand, got more time to develop them post-launch with additional character customization items.

Negan, though, is a special case. This Walking Dead combatant was almost unreasonably overpowered for a long time, making him an easy choice in competitive modes. He seems to have been reeled in since, thankfully, though don't be weirded out if you get hate for playing with him online.

What's included in Tekken 7 Season Pass 3?

Season Pass 3 is special in a couple of ways. Firstly, it includes three all-new additional playable characters from a variety of backgrounds, featuring a number of unique combat styles and various character customization items. There's the token returnee, too - Ganryu. All four of these fare fairly well in combat, though it does seem like Leroy Smith is dominating the competitive leaderboards, to say the least.

The bonus customization options are neat, to be sure. The same could be said about the Cave of Enlightenment stage, which is otherwise a standalone purchase. Note that previous character DLCs and Season Pass releases also included a number of stages. It's just that, most of the time, they were tied up with specific characters as a neat bonus. Not the case with Cave, and it's a cool enough stage, to be sure.

Frame Data Display, however, is perhaps the single most controversial release in the history of Tekken 7. This granular showcase of everything that's going on in the background of Tekken 7's flashy combat is basically a must-have for competitive fighters. It tells you about frame advantages, attack distancing, avatar status, and a load of other important information.

We'll refer to Polygon's incredibly in-depth overview and explanation of why Frame Data Display is crucial. The bottom line is remarkably simple, though: this feature is exceedingly important for players who are serious about Tekken 7. It provides you with insight into why you may have had your butt beaten, and understanding this data leads to vastly increased match prowess. All in all, you probably need this DLC if you're looking to get competitive in Tekken.

What's included in Tekken 7 Season Pass 4?

The ongoing Season Pass - fourth, since we're keeping track of things - has so far received two characters and two combat stages, as well as a slew of PAC-MAN-themed cosmetics. We'll leave those for arcade gaming aficionados and focus on stages and characters, however.

Both Kunimitsu and Lidia have, so far, received a slew of support from fans of the game. One's an old fan favorite, while the other represents Poland in a way that meshes with the community. It's an interesting thing to witness, we'll leave it at that. Much as was the case with the Cave of Enlightenment, you're getting two full stages with this Season Pass, both of which are otherwise available as standalone purchases. They won't change things considerably, but it's always good to get a new stage to fight on, we feel.

As of March 2021, it seems that the content included with SP4 is what's available right now. Bandai Namco is probably setting up for Season Pass 5 already, though it's anyone's guess when that might be coming along. Or what it might contain, for that matter.

We'd be hardly surprised if fresh character releases started winding down at this point, since Tekken 7 now has a staggering 47 (!) playable characters for devs to balance. There's a lot of stuff to play around with, but we won't be particularly surprised if we get another SP2-tier release, either. Time will tell!

As of writing this article (late March of 2021), Bandai Namco's only reached Season Pass 4 with Tekken, though we're reasonably sure that there are heaps more to come in the next couple of months and years. One last thing worth keeping in mind is that none of the season pass releases include Eliza. If you're interested in fighting with this character, you'll need to splurge on her DLC separately, as she was included as a pre-order bonus and otherwise left aside.
