Top Bannerlord Open Source Armory Mods You Need to Try - 2022 Edition

Now, it may be worth keeping in mind that Bannerlord only came out with its 1.0 version a few weeks back. This means that modders might not have started up their proverbial engines too long ago, and some of the truly massive and prospective PC mods will not have launched yet.

Since we have a propensity to continuously update and retrofit our content here at 2Game, however, you can expect this list to change accordingly over time! So, if you're reading this in late 2022, you're getting an early iteration of the topic with some of the cutting-edge Bannerlord modding on show. SCREAMERLORD - Command Soldiers With Your Voice

Bannerlord prides itself on its rather impressive real-time strategy mechanics. These are, obviously, rather phenomenal. After all, it's not like you can take down a thousand enemies in real-time all by yourself, right? Right? You'll need your troops to do some heavy lifting in your stead sooner or later. Thing is, Bannerlord's troop order mechanics aren't all that great. The game takes over its predecessor's control scheme and tweaks it to great effect, but the whole thing is less than ideal for sure.

If you just don't want to fiddle with the controls and the function-row keys, SCREAMERLORD is the mod for you. In short, it allows you to control your whole army using voice commands, and it works phenomenally well. By integrating Voiceattack, a standalone applet, into Bannerlord, this mod nets you a totally hands-free army commander experience. There's a bit of a learning curve to it, yes, but we cannot recommend SCREAMERLORD highly enough. Give it a shot!

Detailed Character Creation

A phenomenally lightweight plugin, this mod allows you to create a truly custom Bannerlord character like you never could before. One of the key aspects of this game is role-playing, after all. If you felt that the base game doesn't afford you enough options, this mod is for you.

Quite simply, Detailed Character Creation lets you tweak virtually every aspect of your character's existence. Muscle toning, age, body weight... you name it, odds are that the plugin lets you tweak it. And, to be fair, Bannerlord does have a comprehensive character editor by default. It's just that this mod takes things to the next level. And, really, if 'next level' is what you're looking for, there's no better choice.

DismembermentPlus

Top Bannerlord Mods: DismembermentPlus

If you ever felt like Mount & Blade: Bannelord doesn't quite grasp and properly convey the sheer brutality of melee combat, DismembermentPlus is the mod for you. Obviously a brutal and potentially disturbing piece of content, DismembermentPlus is a comprehensive and thorough retrofit of the game's blood and gore systems. Whereas the base game only really has small blood spurts and meager pools of blood, here you're getting decapitations, limb removal, and heaps more.

Combine DismembermentPlus with the Realistic Battle Mod featured below, and you're going to be pretty darn close to a ridiculously brutal and horrific medieval combat situation. Note, too, that this mod allows you to tweak every single aspect of its functionality to the tiniest detail. So, dismemberment can happen as often or rarely as you want them to! Fun!

Realistic Battle Mod

Top Bannerlord Mods: Realistic Battles

This wonderful mod is a gameplay rework of astonishing scope. If you're unhappy with the game's rather RPG-centric combat systems and number-driven battles, you're going to want to look into the Realistic Battle Mod, as it does everything in its power to make the whole combat experience far weightier, more realistic, and - if we're being honest - substantially more satisfying in a practical sense.

According to the author, all armor values are based on experimental data, while weapons deal damage based on varying amounts of kinetic force which - in theory - is derived from real-world armaments. We're oversimplifying things here by a fair bit, mind. The final product, however, is a game where AI is smarter and more aggressive, battles take more time, and almost every single damage effect is based on realistic physics information. A far cry from the base Bannerlord experience.

Naturally, this mod will only really be a good fit for hardcore players, but it's worth keeping an eye on, we feel!

Open Source Armory

Top Bannerlord Mods: Open Source Armory

Finally, if you can never ever have enough loot to choose from, and if you're eager to hoard as much armor and weapons as humanly possible, Open Source Armory is a real must-have. While it's certainly worth pointing out that this lovely mod adds almost 60 new custom shields, custom capes, and custom helmets, more than 20 new custom weapons, and 16 unique new banners, its most important feature is - armor. Loads upon loads upon loads of unique new armor; over 1,000 pieces in total! We're talking custom arm armor, custom body armors, custom horse armors, custom leg armors, custom camel armors... Are you getting the picture?

100% lore-friendly and completely balanced in accordance with the rest of the game, Open Source Armory is precisely what it says on the tin: a comprehensive compendium of items sourced from dozens of authors all working together. It's an immense expansion of the game's already massive loot selection and something that's going to slot nicely into virtually every player's Mount & Blade: Bannelord playthrough.
