Time and again, we've sung praise to Two Point Studios' seminal release of Two Point Hospital. Those who've been enjoying our content over the years will know that we feel this was one of SEGA's best publishing deals in a long while, and with that in mind, it's time to set our sights on Two Point Campus.
That's right, good folk: Hospital is all good and wrapped up (and phenomenal, might we add), and the developers are now working hard to finalize and launch their next flagship - Campus. As the name of the game is bound to imply, Two Point Campus is effectively a sidequel to Two Point Hospital. Worth noting is that Campus is set and primed to launch this August, and we cannot wait to see it in action.
The two games will coexist. In fact, the implication is that they're set in the same Two Point universe. Except, this time around, players will take on the role of a university campus manager. At least there's a slim chance of Two Point people dying this time around, right? Down below, we'll go over everything we know about the game. From its PC release times to discussing how it compares to its predecessor!
Pre-order Two Point Campus on PC - today!
In simplest terms possible, Two Point Campus is a university management sim. The goal is for the player to think up, build, and maintain a wide variety of academic institutions. Ideally, doing so will entail a balance between academia proper, workplace opportunities, and fun pastimes for students to engage in.
Much like Two Point Studios' previous release, Hospital, the game is designed to allow for infinite customization and progression. Each map - of which there are many - has a set of key objectives that players need to complete. Once those are done, the map opens up as a sandbox and unlocks the next stage. At the same time, however, it also procures funding and resources necessary for future development. Best of all, completed levels remain accessible for future customizations and upgrades.
So, it's all about making a functioning university campus. Trust us, though - it's way more exciting than it sounds on paper. Especially since Two Point Studios is headed by former Bullfrog and Lionhead veterans.
Off we go onto the important bits! This section is dedicated to the game's technical details and content offerings. If you're looking for a high-brow feature overview, the next section is for you. If, however, you're worried about your PC not being up to snuff, read on.
At the time of writing this article, Two Point Campus is set to launch on August 9, 2022. The game is coming out on Windows PCs, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles, so even if you're not a PC gamer, there's much to look forward to.
Generally speaking, this game is the polar opposite of Total Warhammer 3 in regard to hardware requirements. Two Point Studios claims that the game should run reasonably well even on integrated Intel graphics. As this is the same engine as we saw in Two Point Hospital, we believe that's a generally reasonable assumption! Find the detailed spec requirements below.
As ever, there's a lovely batch of pre-order goodies available for players that purchase the game ahead of its May 17th launch. These are as follows:
Indeed, all owners of Two Point Campus will also get a batch of exclusive goodies to use immediately in Two Point Hospital. These are as follows:
As we've hinted at before, there's more to Two Point Campus than just being Hospital with an academia-themed reskin. While there are a bunch of improvements both big and small, there are two standout features that will be extremely exciting even to Hospital veterans.
First, there's the obvious matter of much-improved customization features. Whereas Hospital only allowed players to build within the scope of the designated buildings, Campus goes far beyond that. The venerable Outside is fully customizable here, you see. From planting trees to designing buildings themselves, this is going to vastly improve upon the core gameplay loop of a Two Point title.
Of course, players are still limited to a specific plot of land. However, since the said plot of land is now open to way more options than it was in Hospital, it's still going to be a game-changer.
The second major improvement, however, is even more important. Developers are introducing so-called Traits to Campus students. As years progress and students graduate, they will develop unique traits, relationships, and preferences. The goal, then, seems to be to organically create characters that players may end up caring about.
So, considering all of the above, it's easy to come to the conclusion that Campus is an improved version of Hospital! And, yes, in a way it is. Since the developer is intent on furthering and improving upon its Two Point County universe, however, the two should be considered sidegrades in most respects.
The two aforementioned main features - that of improved planning/customization and student Traits - will be what makes or breaks Two Point Campus. Alright, 'breaks' is a strong word: we do know that the core gameplay loop works phenomenally well.
There was some concern on whether Two Point Studios would rest on their laurels and just launch a new title with reskinned assets. Thankfully, it's plainly obvious that Campus is going to be a major step forward where it counts. At the same time, Hospital should remain plenty relevant for years to come. So, color us thrilled!
And there you have it! That's about all we've got on Two Point Campus PC at this time. As ever, we'll continue updating this article as more information comes out. All in all, though, we think everyone already has a pretty solid idea of what to expect out of this game.
It's no coincidence that Two Point Hospital made its way to our list of top 100 PC games of all time. Now, we're not saying that Campus is set to do the same, but it may very well do so. The core of the game is promised to stay the same as it was back in Hospital, except with more options, more features, and more ways to truly make Campus your very own.
Hard to say no to a deal like that, right?
If all goes well - and we see no reason why it wouldn't - Campus will get a bunch of post-launch content too. If it's anything like Two Point Hospital DLC, we're in for a hell of a time. Potentially best of all though, Campus is going to continue the same kind of approach to humor and non-violence we had come to know and love. So, stay tuned for more news and coverage, right here at 2Game!
