Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the latest single-player dramatic RPG in the Yakuza series. It is a fourteenth game in the series, and eighth if only counting the main installments.
Like a Dragon takes a lot of inspiration from previous games in the Yakuza series, such as brilliant minigames and storytelling which is both humorous and serious. But that doesn't mean it gets stale. Far from it actually. With a new and improved combat system, graphics, and a new thrilling story it is a great continuation of the series. Which you really should give a go if you haven't done so already. Don't worry, we prepared everything you might need to know in order to make a decision on which Yakuza game to start with.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is coming out on PC on November 10! That's the important part, of course, but we're sorry to report that we've got no firm official information on the specific release times just yet. Meaning, the game might be coming out early in the morning Pacific Time, or it might be hitting the stores come 10 PM Tokyo. We'll update this section of the article accordingly, soon as more information is available.
Wondering if Yakuza 7 will run at all on your old grandma's gaming rig? Wonder no more, because the official system requirements are now in! In general terms, there are very few surprises here: GTX 1060 should perform more than admirably in most situations, and if need be, the game will run even on the old HD 7870. Not that we ever thought a Yakuza title would break the bank in this regard, but it's good to be getting an official confirmation, too. Find the PC system requirements below!
The story of Like a Dragon takes starts off in 2001 and follows Ichiban Kasuga, a young member of the Arakawa Family. After taking the fall for a murder he did not commit believing it would make him a hero he spends the next 18 years in jail. When he is finally released in 2019 he is shocked to discover that nobody remembers him. Find out what the narrative might turn out to be with the official previews below.
The biggest novelty the game brings to the series is the change of combat system. Yakuza: Like a Dragon combat system is actually going to be turn-based, dropping the fast-paced button mashing brawling system it used up until now. As you might know, that is a major change to the rest of the series.
It is also one that seems to be splitting the fanbase. Many players feel that implementing a turn-based combat system is good for the game. After all, the franchise has always been an RPG at its core. Not to mention it will provide a better challenge, as it used to be very easy to exploit the mechanics to make the fights barely an inconvenience to the player.
However, not everyone is looking at it the same way. Other fans feel that a turn-based combat system slows down the game too much. It is definitely a controversial topic at the moment. But I guess there is no point in judging it before we get our hands on it and see for ourselves. I, for one, am very excited to try it out.
There are three major versions of Yakuza: Like a Dragon for you to choose from on PC. AS you can imagine, the Legendary Hero Edition will nab you the most content, though it's up to you whether that's worth the additional cost. Find all the details about these editions in the infographic above, or in the section below.
Whichever you end up going with, most of the pre-order bonuses and extra goodies shouldn't interfere with your experience too much. We expect for cosmetics to be the main draw here, but since there's not been much in the way of reveals, there's no telling if they're worth the added cost.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is coming out on PC come November 10th: we'll keep updating this technical article with more info as we get it. Stay tuned, and stay hyped!
