All Cities: Skylines 2 Developer Videos: Everything We’ve Seen So Far!

With the new Skylines title due to launch later this year, on October 24, it's no surprise that the devs have been hard at work introducing their exciting new game to the public. In fact, there's a whole suite of Cities: Skylines 2 developer videos coming out, and today, we'd like to help you get fully up-to-speed with them!

To that end, we'll keep it simple and sweet - as much as an article about a city-building game can feasibly get. Down below, you'll find all of the developer Colossal Order's dev diaries so far. Note, too, that we've prepared short video overviews for those who can't or don't want to watch the videos as-is and that we'll keep this article up-to-date as more of them are released ahead of the game's late October release. Have fun!

Roadbuilding in Cities: Skylines 2

The first of the many dev diaries, this video provides a short and succinct explanation of how Skylines 2 massively improves upon its predecessor's roadbuilding mechanics. The key takeaway, of course, is that we'll no longer have to plop down individual waterways and power nodes, as those will be integrated into the roads.

Traffic & AI in Cities: Skylines 2

It should come as no surprise that Skylines 2 aims to substantially revamp the predecessor's traffic mechanics. As the AI was quite abysmal in the old title, improving upon this aspect of the game was hugely important, and the good news is that Colossal Order is making leaps in this respect. Check it out!

Transportation and Cargo in Cities: Skylines 2

As is the case with any modern-day city, your virtual township will need to contend with transportation and cargo-traffic woes as well. Thankfully, Skylines 2 does come with a full suite of key features to make this job simple and intuitive, helping offload the pressure on your roads and highways.

Zoning in Cities: Skylines 2

Zoning is an ever-present pressure in city-building games, and the good news is that Cities: Skylines 2 aims to make itself the most comprehensive example of the feature ever created. With a granular system of modifications allowing you to create just the right combination of zones for your particular use case, the sky's the limit in this new title.

City Services in Cities: Skylines 2

The matter of investing in one's city services is a constant pressure in the real world. Unsurprisingly, balancing these bits is a big deal in city-building video games, too. The thing about Skylines 2 is that it will allow players to finely tune their cities' services and even dedicate certain districts to certain services!

Utilities in Cities: Skylines 2

Though Skylines 2 does streamline some aspects of its towns' utilities, as outlined in the Roads Overview video, players will still need to contend with the sources of these utilities well enough. That's where your usual assortment of coal, solar, wind, and hydroelectricity comes into the play, with nuclear potentially being an option, too. How will you implement them, though?

Maps & Themes of Cities: Skylines 2

Setting all the technical bits aside, Skylines 2 does still have an artistic vision of sorts in mind for itself. Its maps, themes, and - indeed - the visual schemes that players themselves settle upon, all come into play when it comes to the game's presentation. From what's shown in the video featured above, we've got some really high hopes for the final product.

Stay Tuned for More!

And that about does it for the time being. Having said that, we've already gotten over half a dozen videos by early August, and with more on the way, Colossal Order is clearly confident in the game its developers have been creating all along. We are, too, now that we've seen everything shown in the videos! From optimization of key cityscape aspects all the way to entirely new (and perfectly sensible!) features that make city-building a joy, this will be a huge milestone for the genre.

Once again, we'll keep this article fully up-to-date with new videos as they come out, so do stay tuned. In the interim, feel free to check out the rest of our content repertoire - right here at the 2Game Community Hub!
